    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

Stop it HH, I am not being misleading. That's ridiculous for you to say that, and I'm not going out of my way to be dismissive. JG has a lot of potential and his growth will be great for him, the team and the program. With that said, I'm also not going to overhype him on what was really a spotty, up and down season.

Yeah, it's a technicality. I get it, but I was going by Race's 7.5 rpg.

Yeah, I'm not trying to be in a position to rain of JG's parade or position it that I don’t like him. He has good potential and his improvement absolutely helps the team. I'm also just not ready to anoint him a starting wing when he's never played the position or say he should be starting ahead of Race Thompson. I know JG had some strong moments the last 2 games, but at the same time he scored in double figures 4 times all season and they were pretty spread out, it wasn't like some run the last 2-3 weeks where everything clicked. From the New Year on he has as many 0 point games as he did double-digit games.

I like Jordan Geronimo, I'm glad he stayed and am excited to see his continued development next season. With that said, it's like "The legend of Jordan Geronimo" the way some fans are hyping him up. I get Race had a tough last week or 2 of the season, but I'm not sure how anyone can say JG brings more to the table at this point? Race Thompson averaged 11ppg and 7.5rpg for a full season last year. Jordan Geronimo in two years has had one game in his career where he's done that and it was against Merrimack.

Yeah, not sure what the rules are there. For current NBA players (see Al Horford this week) they just need to produce 2 negative tests and they can come back. Assuming (not sure though) it's the same for TJD and he can get two negatives, he'd still have time to do the small group workouts with teams. Obviously a lot of assumptions there, not clue what TJD's specific situation is.

It's certainly not great for him of course, and I agree that he'll most likely be back. With that said, the small group team workouts are way more important than the combine, so as long as he gets cleared and his agent can load up his schedule with those, he still will have the opportunity to impress some teams.

    Draft Combine 2022

Yeah, it means he's at least on the radar for teams, but not sure it necessarily means much more than that.

(2020) SG Trey Galloway To IU

Yup, we need all of those things. We also need guards/wings that can play with pace and force pace when the timing is right and Galloway is arguably our best guy at that. Galloway, with his defense, ball handing and aggressiveness is probably our best player at creating easy baskets in transition, which is something IU really needs. Part of improving shooting is getting better, easier shots and Galloway helps with that with his penetration, passing and ability to push the pace.

(2020) SG Trey Galloway To IU

Yup! I get that we're all desperate for shooting after the last 5-6 years, but Galloway is a guy with a unique skill set and that skill set only gets increasingly valuable with more talent/shooting around him. I'm not saying Galloway is an NBA player, and these guys play different positions but stylistically think of him as a Draymond Green or Rajon Rondo type. You don't bench those guys because you need shooting, you surround them with better shooters and their value and impact soars. Before someone tries to claim I'm saying Galloway is an NBA All-Star, clearly without a doubt that is not what I'm saying. I'm saying Galloway has a unique skill set that few others on the team bring and it only gets better with increased talent and shooting around him.

(2020) SG Trey Galloway To IU

Great points! I'm not sure why people think Galloway and Bates are an either/or thing. We lost Stewart, Phinisee and Lander from the backcourt/wing minutes. I'd expect Kopp's 25mpg to go down and how much that goes down should go to Bates. Boom, Bates just got his minutes increases, assuming he can make big leaps in defense, effort, decision making, shooting, ball handling, etc. JHS's minutes come from Stewart's 24.4 mpg. So right there we just increased Bates' minutes and got JHS his minutes and we haven't touched Galloway's or the left over minutes from Phinisee and Lander leaving. It's pretty glaringly easy to see how at worst Galloway's minutes will stay the same, especially given that he probably has the most unique skill set of that group.

(2020) SG Trey Galloway To IU

I will be really, really surprised if you're not disappointed then. It was crystal clear that IU was better last year, for the most part, when Trey Galloway was playing 20ish mpg.
  12. BGleas

(2020) SG Trey Galloway To IU

Yeah, JHS gets Stewart's minutes and some of Phinisee's. Bates gets his own minutes plus some of Kopp's and then Galloway gets the minutes he already had plus also some of Phinisee's. What Galloway brings is so unique, at minimum his minutes will stay the same.
  13. BGleas

(2020) SG Trey Galloway To IU

Yeah, I mean it's not random that IU was good before his wrist injury, lost a lot of close games while he was out, won again when he was back,, then went on a February swoon when he had the groin injury, and then started winning again when he came back in March. A jumper would be great if he developed it, but as is Galloway is critical to what IU does. His minutes aren't going down.

(2020) SG Trey Galloway To IU

It would be great if he developed a reliable jumper, but he doesn't need it to get minutes. He already is one of our most important players without a reliable jumper and already plays that many minutes, and probably would have been more minutes without the injuries. What Galloway brings gets more important as more talent comes in, not less important.

Agree! I was at the St. Peter's-Purdue game and St. Peter's basically started 3 guards. You can never have too many creators and shot makers.

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

Agree! We've kind of touched on this a few weeks ago, but I don't really even subscribe to the old school point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center model. I think you have guards, wings and bigs. If you want to break it down further in the "guards" bucket you have point guards and combo guards and in the "bigs" bucket you have forwards and centers.

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

Don't get me wrong, I have no idea where he'll end up, it was just mentioned earlier that he'd most likely get 2-Way Contract and not play in the NBA for 3 years. I just meant that if he gets a 2-way contract he'd almost definitely play in the NBA next season.
  18. BGleas

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

Those were just two examples. I'm sure I could go find examples of bigs that played in the NBA on a 2-way contract. Also, Morgan shot under 30% from 3 his senior year at IU and was never a consistent shooter in college.

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

If TJD were to leave and end up with a 2-way contract, he'd most likely play in the NBA next season and make 6-figures doing it. Sure, he'd also play in the G-League, but he'd be working in an NBA system with NBA level coaches (not saying Woodson isn't an NBA level coach, more alluding to the system and the rest of the staffs) and he'd get at least some time with the NBA club he's with to prove himself. I mean, Sam Hauser had a 2-way contract with the Celtics and played in 26 games for them and has been dressed for playoff games. Juwan Morgan was a 2-way player and started two playoff games that year for Utah. Is it an easy road? No. But most 2-way guys at least get a shot. It's an easier road than 20-30 years ago when there wasn't a G-League or 2-Way contracts.

Agree on Bates. It would be huge if he makes a big leap. With that said, I also don't think Bates ascending would really impact Galloway's minutes. Lots of perimeter minutes between XJ, JHS, Bates, Galloway and Kopp.

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

Agree that his minutes will decrease, how much will depend like you said on how well he shoots and also how much a guy like Bates improves.

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

There's a lot more to the game than shooting, and Galloway does almost all of the other facets better than any wing we have. There was a reason we were winning until he got hurt, then we won when he came back from the wrist, then went on a swoon in February when he hurt the groin, and then finally started winning again when he came back in March. The guys wins. The guys plays good defense, is our best play maker in transition, plays with pace, and creates and finishes at the rim. He'll keep his regular 6th man minutes and pick up some of Phinisee's minutes. I really can't see any scenario where his minutes go down. Bates will fight Kopp for the other wing minutes with Galloway in the mix there as well, and JHS will pick up Stewart's minutes and probably some of Phinisee's as well.

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

Like I said, I think he's the 6th man. I also don't consider him a "shooting guard", if that's even a thing anymore.
  24. BGleas

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

He already warrants significant playing time. He was in most of our best lineups last season.

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

Like I said, I think Galloway's attributes are probably best as the 6th man, so if he made a leap I could see Bates grabbing a starting spot next to XJ and JHS. If Bates doesn't make a huge leap, then you have Galloway and Bates getting minutes behind XJ, JHS and Kopp (who will play less minutes whether he starts or not). Plenty of guard/wing minutes for both Galloway and Bates. But again, I see very few, if any, plausible scenarios where Galloway's minutes go down. Outside of shooting, he does so many other things at a high level.
