OG vs Troy - Who Should Start
Indymike7 replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
You would think that maybe you would look up simple facts before you try to make people believe what you want. Collin has fouled out of one game this year...one. If you don't get Collin's game, you should be a UK fan. He does the dirty work and has to guard the others teams best forward. Collin is always the guy blocking the other team out when someone else gets the rebound. That never shows up in the stats, but people that know basketball see it. Shows what you know...... Please quit being an IU fan. You are just bringing the board down. -

IU Will Be More Successful If???

JBJ and Yogi make players around them better. If they focus on overall offense and not just getting theirs, we will have a great year. They have the ball in their hands so much that they can dictate the offensive flow of the game. James had 2 back to back awful possessions in the exhibition forcing shots while guarded while teammates were wide open. Then he hit a 3 on the next possession and everything was fine. I wish Crean would jerk his chain when he does that. Last year during the pre-BIG season, Yogi, JBJ and Troy would dominate lesser opponents on their own instead of playing team ball. That won't work in the BIG. We have to play 5 on 5 to get the most out of this team. Defense doesn't have to be great because of our scoring ability, but it has to be much better than last year. -
Troy is standing on his toes, just about as much as Noah V. did his Freshman year.

Well, maybe if Collin can become a 4 dimensional player, he would be able to set screens for himself. That would make him better at driving to the basket. You want 5 guys playing one on one, your line-up works. You want team ball, put Hartman on the floor. You fell short and gave no defense response? Disappointing.........
-
dcoble9, I think I can respond to your Hartman non-sense. He is not one dimensional on offense, he is the only player constantly setting screens and knows how to pass the ball. I guess that makes him 3 dimensional! On defense, sure he is not a great one on one defender, but he constantly denies his guy the ball (so he doesn't have to guard him one on one) He also blocks out (usually the other teams top rebounder) every available opportunity. I love it when people just watch the ball, have no clue what's really going on and run somebody down just because of their own ignorance (not).

Crean $20,000 for perfect academic progress rate
Indymike7 replied to Basketball4iU's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It's no wonder you had problems in class. you can't read. I noted several exceptions in my post. I also stated "RECREATIONAL Sports Management" is a joke and NOT Sports Management or Sports Therapy. There is a big difference between them. Gordon is getting his masters in Sports Management and I bet he has a great career. Do you really think telling somebody "I have a bachelors in Recreational Sports Management" is going to impress them? If so, you're not aiming very high. You can go on and put a CYO team together and be their manager. Learn to read PAL! -
Crean $20,000 for perfect academic progress rate

I wouldn't get too excited over this award/reward. Most of the players getting the bulk of the minutes are majoring in "Recreation Sports Management" (basically, they can be in charge of recess when they graduate). The walk-ons along with a few scholarship players have a bit more complicated majors. Ethrington got his degree early, Fagan made it into med. school, Hartman a business major etc. So most of these kids have to show up for class and everything is good. This makes it much harder for the kids who are taking real classes because they can't spend as much time in the gym. They actually have to study. -

Quit reading the damn thread if you don't want to talk about it. No need to whine about something because it's not what you want to discuss. -
Recent video posted in the other thread made me think about this, but what about Eric Gordon Sr.?
I had a good 20 minute conversation with Gordon Sr. last year at Hoosier Hysteria. Very humble and knowledgeable guy. He seems like his thing is helping his kids be as good as they can be. His boy has a couple years of high school left and I believe he has a daughter junior high age that is a tennis player. I would be surprised if her were interested in assistant coaching at IU.

Cal has proved to be a great recruiter and smart coach (not a great coach). As much as I hate the slimey basturd, he understands how to let his players succeed without being an x's and o's type coach. Seems like Crean is working to emulate that model with the unscripted no passing drive the ball to the hole offense. I still believe that IU basketball should be disciplined hard nose ball with juniors and seniors leading the way. That will not happen with the program running off players and recruiting guys that will only play one or two years. We need to get back to Indiana basketball. -
Effective against weak defenders, yes. Did you never notice that he had to gather himself everytime he caught a pass in traffic? The only thing he posesses is a great physical advantage. That's why his big games came against bad teams. When he gets to the NBA, he will be shut down easily.
-
Don't think he will do much besides rebound the ball (and there's a place for that). He's just not good with the ball against anything remotely looking like a defense.

Next Season will be a Success If....
Indymike7 replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If coach makes them play team ball. No more dirving on multiple defenders and only passing as a last resort. They may not win as much as everybody wants, but at least it will lay the foundation for a good future. Yogi's senior year is when we should be able to make a serious run at the NCAA's. -
If you are arrested for underage drinking, you get a free 8 hour stay at the local drunk tank. Doesn't matter how much you have had.

I have tried to find out what policy is and couldn't find anything. I believe it's up to the coach of each sport. There is nothing publicly available that spells it out.
