Yeah, and most people will leave their job for better pay. Not always, but usually. Especially if you like the boss, atmosphere etc. We genuinely thought we were gonna get these guys. That’s where the long hold up was. It seems we ultimately didn’t want to pay them enough to convince them to leave. Self, Calipari and some others are making 8-10 million a year plus staff. We are paying 4-5 for DeVries. There’s a lot of extra money floating around that goes a long way in convincing an assistant to take a job. If we “underpay” on a coach, overpay on the assistants like was said to be the case. It’s honestly been a mess since the coach search started if we are being honest with ourselves. Kelsey Is a similar situation. But, I think he’s corny. But that doesn’t matter. The recruits like him. His swag. He’s got something going for him. Pope? UL, UK , Indiana all supposedly with similar resources. Pope is just a genuine dude. No swag. But he get dudes, pretty easy. They buy what he’s selling. DeVries? Idk. I guess he’s gotta find his lane. He’s not a Pope. He’s not a Kelsey, that’s for sure. He’s a blue collar coach supposedly with white collar resources. It’s kinda a mismatch. I think DeVries only works if he rolls up his sleeves and works and gets guys like him. It might work. But it’s not splashy and it might not work. No pizazz. Making no waves. Idk. Nah. Ride out another half hearted attempt at returning to blue blood status. See if we can blue collar our way back to respectability. We as fans treat the program in a way to make it a top 5 Valuable program while we get top 50-75 results out of it. We should boycott until we have a program to be proud of (won’t happen-we are the Cubs of college basketball). DeVries can get us there but either way the University rakes in money hand over fist while underdelivering. Coaches seem to have eye opening experiences when they become our coach. You can wave the almighty dollar and sell a vision. That IS his job or his assistants, which he couldn’t convince either. He came to Indiana to have the resources to compete at a higher level. He can’t close. UK gonna get another one. I guess if he wants to share the ball Jaland Lowe, more power to him. I stand by my thoughts of top 10 dollar buildings a top 40 or 50 roster. He’s gonna have his work cut out for him in the end.

Wilkerson is a big one. Can kinda turn the tide a bit. Win a coveted recruitment. Been reported that 8-10 teams will encroach on a 10 million dollar roster. Indiana being one of them. My guess is we get thrifty and aren’t at the top level. Not sure who is left out there that really demands top dollar. No point in spending top 10 money to build a top 30-40 roster. Coaching matters. More to the idea that Dusty is getting who he wants and getting both the top guys in the same position is a remarkable feat. Clearly the Wolf/Goldin success is paying off immediately. Hoping what’s his name never suits up, he’s the one that pops off the screen. Mara is interesting to me but more of a gamble. Not a clear top guy however that size and skill has top potential.

Michigan and Dusty just added Mara from UCLA. lol. I believe that gives him the #1 and #2 C in the portal. Unreal.

It’s wait and see on this staff for me. And it’s wait and see on the whole operation. Nothing has impressed me yet, besides the secrecy. We don’t appear to be “Winning” yet. But neither did UL and UK and it mostly worked for them. Now Louisville is cooking and UK is cooking. Hopefully we can do something similar.

Don't love it, don't necessarily hate it. He has connections, that is for sure. We tried to get Preston Murphy and that guy looks like a future star to me. Kids really respond to Preston. Not sure Kenny rocks that way, but it should open some avenues to top talent, i think. Goodman loves us to struggle and publicly posted our attempts to get Moore.

Maybe he can get Bidunga next year. LOL. Also curious if any Cincinnati guys are deemed recruitable. Adams has a nice reputation but i'm keeping my eye on him proving his worth.
