Offensively he’s slick. Got a nice crossover. Can go L/R. Prefers right. Fast, has a nice one handed scoop that’s really quick. Good three point shooter but not a great free throw shooter. I don’t love that. Makes me nervous for a regression a bit. He’s not at all known for his defense. Has the tools, but considered a bad defender. Feels like a matter of a little bit of time. The early congrualations thread is probably correct but also a bit funny. I’ve watched tape and some game stuff. Love his active hands and defense. His ability to probe on offense. Shooting isn’t great and probably never will be but having constant ball pressure on the defensive end will be so refreshing. We haven’t had that in a while either.

I used to stick up for Dan because I generally think his attitude towards toughness is the correct one in a society where that's somewhat made to be a negative quality. HOWEVER, times do change, and toughness is still very important in my mind, but he just wants to slander everything. DeVries is going to try to bring toughness back and do things that older school fans I believe cherish. Dan should give some rope and see how this thing goes. He's anti tik tok dancing but pretty much every school does that these days. Winning or losing. So, he's grown out of touch and more cantankerous.

A 6’4, 6’5 guard/wing that can absolutely shoot the ball. Deep, off dribble, set, 3 level. The potential to be the kind of guard we haven’t had in a long time. Competitive. With a chip on his shoulder. Decent off the bounce with room for improvement here for sure. Above average on defense with the potential to be really good. Great free throw shooter. We will have an argument with him and Tucker that we have the best 2 shooters with some size to them. That being said other many other teams can say similar things but Indiana hasn’t had this level of shooting since Creans time.

wish her the best. She always worked really hard when she played. Wish she had more run but there was probably a reason of that.

i gotta be honest that interview with Field of 68 put a big smile on my face. He said everything you would want a player for Indiana to say. Gonna be rooting hard for this kid to become a 1st round NBA talent.

If you are referring to me, I know exactly what it means. My point was the actual talent in the portal is already dwindling and new hopeful players won’t have the chance to join soon. I’d like to have better players than many of the ones we are targeting now. So for me, I hope we can coax/poach some good players into the portal before the “portal closes”.

Lol. Wilkerson fits. Clayton was a very good player under Pitino on a winning team. Martin was a very good player (who I wanted Indiana to get) on a winning FAU team. Those guys were very easily projectable players. Similar to Wilkerson and a few other Mid Majors. Handlogten isn’t special. Reed Bailey is intriguing. That’s why the schools have not-for-profits set up to handle its NIL. Big donors can donate to “charity” and some of it goes to needs and some of it goes to athletes. The donors get tax benefits. It’s much more than a donation. And it’s why it’s semi-sustainable.

NIL era changes everything. Nothing pre-post NIL is comparable. Even the best teams (besides Purdue) rebuild their rosters every year. Louisville was abysmal and a total laughing stock. Far worse than we have been. They had resources and made a good hire and flipped it within a year. Florida made a good hire and got a young guy who understood the portal was the way. I listened to his interviews when he was hired. He talked portal extensively. He doesn’t have the basketball resources Indiana has but they are solid. He got the right guys and won. Indiana can do all those things. We can Sell everything Louisville can sell. They are probably are best comparison. As far as the the Fan expectations? If we are consistently a top 25 team, that would do it for 98% of the fanbase. “Woodson made tournament 2 years and got ran off” isn’t exactly accurate. I think most people were ok with year 1. Although barely made tournament then got thrashed. Year 2 was a solid year, probably about what the fanbase expects every year. Didn’t meet their own expectations but it was fine. Year 3 began with some optimism and hope for more “modern” basketball. That season rightfully lost the fanbase. Year 4, a chance to reclaim the fanbase was all the same stuff. The fans want a top 25 level team. Dusty did it. Pope did it. Kelsey did it. Now all those guys are killing it and on path to be top 10 programs. This is what the fanbase wants. Not national championships. Just national relevance. It’s attainable as mentioned by these 3 coaches and programs. Optics-DeVries is already off to a rocky start. But it’s how you finish. He does need to have a good/great season. With the ability to pay for a top 10 paid roster, he should be able to have a good season. He just needs to figure it out.

Then it’s a Dolson failure. If you have top resources, you get a guy that HAS something to close with. And you use those resources to close and then win. Beard for example would’ve put us back on the map immediately. Maybe even Will Wade. Pay enough to coax someone else with Swagger. Like I say, Woodson basketball was awful and I’m just ready for anything else. So for that, I’m happy. However we didn’t have to blue collar our way back into this thing with our resources. Like I’ve said elsewhere, this is the Cubs approach to things. Fanbase will support regardless, but I’d imagine we’ve got to be closing in on testing that theory with this hire.
