That is true, he will and I could see him maybe liking being at a school in a state where basketball reigns supreme. He does have a good thing going right now so I'd think it'd be hard to convince him to leave sunny Florida to move to the middle of a fly over state with bipolar weather. University of Miami sent me a letter when I was in high school, and the thought was temping but in the end I didn't even apply because I'm a Hoosier boy that had dreams of attending IU not a successful basketball coach with a good gig in a good climate. I do think it'd be a good hire, but it would take a mountain of cash on top of the mountain of cash that is Crean's buyout. Even that may not be enough to get him to leave Florida.
Eh living in that part of Florida can't be all that great. I've been to Gainesville and it's a beautiful town/city, but you might as well live in Nebraska if you don't live near the coast. Either way, I think he is a lifer at Florida, regardless of what anyone throws at him. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
Jim Boeheim has been running a zone very successfully for a long time. Not beating Syracuse in any particular game can't be looked at as a major issue for the coach. What bothers me, is that every time we face a good zone we look absolutely anemic. Without a doubt, many a good team has looked that way against the Syracuse zone. However, I would like to see some signs that we have a gameplan to attack the weaknesses of a zone, which I don't. Its obvious that our standard offensive approach is not successful against the zone. Now whether that's because CTC can't get his team to understand and execute the plan he puts together, or he just can't find a decent way to gameplan against the one is my big question.
I totally agree with this. I'm not saying that Crean is completely free of blame, it's just that people expect us to beat Syracuse like it's a foregone conclusion, but that is rarely the case with anyone against them. Seeing us perform better against much less effective zones would be nice, but we have yet to really see that. I refuse to believe he simply doesn't know how to beat it, it just looks like he has trouble relaying the info to the players. The Syracuse thing just bothers me.
That and our team isn't well equipped to beat a zone anyways.
That's very true. I just wish the entire blame didn't fall on Crean for not being able to beat the zone. Very few can. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
. To play devils advocate if the zone was an easy defense to figure out it would not be ran at this level with the consistency it is. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
Exactly. Crean isn't the only one who can't figure them out. Especially Boeheim's. You can probably count on 1 hand who has figured out his. 34-0 the perfect season for The Shockers
I'm truly not arguing the point at all. A team who reaches the semi's (even if by luck), loses barely anything, turns the next season into an undefeated season needs to receive some type of respect. But with all of that gibberish being said, I still think they'll be smacked around by a more athletic team, possibly in the E-8...but I wouldn't be shocked (no pun intended) if they reach the F4 this year.
I agree. They're a legitimate team. No doubt about it. They just definitely have their flaws. It will all come down to their draw, just like anyone else. Should get out of the first round then they could very well run into a tough 8/9 seed(I think that's how it would go) in the 2nd. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Barring a 25 point comeback by Penn State, looks like we'll have Illinois at Noon Thursday. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
Could this be a team of destiny? Didn't they hit the final four last year? Did they lose much from last years team?
They didn't lose much from last year at all. I see them getting to the Sweet 16 or Elite 8, but a quality big man should dominate them. They're pretty good, but I think the quality of competition is a very, very valid argument against them. The MVC is pretty bad. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Wiggins is much better on defense though. I'd go with him.
I agree about defense. I think it really depends on who picks. Say the Magic get it, they have Vic and Tobias Harris so do they go with Embiid? The Bucks need everything. Just depends. Personally, I take Parker, but it's all opinion. Don't think you can go wrong with the top 4-5 picks. Unless you're the Cavs. They'd find a way to blow it. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Off topic, but how Jabari isn't the unanimous #1 pick is beyond me. At this point in their respective careers, he has a better jumper, is the same size, and is nearly as athletic as Lebron. It is an easy decision for me if I am a GM. Sure, his ceiling is lower than Wiggins, but he is so polished it shouldn't even matter. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Edit to my original post regarding the B1G tourney projections: If Iowa, Penn State, Ohio State, NW, and Nebraska all win, we will open as the 8 vs. 9 Nebraska. Most of those would be pretty big upsets, though. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

So I just did every possible scenario for the games tomorrow (I think) on a B1G bracket generator and we will be the first game Thursday no matter what and will be playing Minnesota or Illinois no matter what. There could be another scenario I missed, but that's what I came up with every time. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
