In my original post, I never mentioned overachieving. Don't twist it. My point was that Crean is better at getting his teams ready when they are the underdog as opposed to the favorite. He is a motivator. He's always come off to me as a guy that would rather have a chip on his shoulder than a target on his back. See: 11-12 vs. 12-13.

I was mostly referring to 2011-12. When we were an underdog to begin the season then we beat the boys in blue. I'd say he did a pretty good job with a team that didn't have high expectations, but a good deal of talent, just like this year. He's a motivator, a talker, and he always has been. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here. Experts have their own criteria when picking preseason polls, so what are you going for? We have the talent to break into the top 5 of the B1G this year. Edit: And for his first 3 years, I think those teams performed just about as well as anyone would expect given the talent, or lack there of. They played hard every single night, and I partially credit Crean's motivational skills for that.

Agreed. Plus Crean coaches/motivates well from the underdog role. I'm not predicting a top 3 B1G finish, but 9 would probably crush my hopes and dreams and I just really don't see it happening.

Oscar Taveras died in a car crash today in the Dominican Republic. Even as a Cubs fan I admit that guy was going to be special. Tough loss for the league.

That's a legitimate worry, but I'm usually more worried about physicality with bigs personally. I think Hammons could give us a ton of problems because of his height and weight/power. Kaminsky is going to give everyone issues because that guy can just play. But I think Hanner, Devin, and Emmitt are athletic enough to sufficiently guard against most bigs we will see. There will be some bigs that give our guys problems, but hopefully we can counter with our guards.

They're gone for a lot of teams. The game has changed to where it isn't absolutely necessary to have a true center. Some NBA teams don't even have that prototypical center anymore.

Yeah I just feel like he's someone that's never been put in his place or anything like that. It's definitely not making him many friends on campus.

Lol oh the game Cutler legitimately tore his MCL? I don't think Cutler is a good QB, don't think he's mentally tough, and as a Bears fan I currently hate him, but anyone that questions his physical toughness is severely misinformed.
