Well first, I wouldn’t make the mistake of judging a players worth on the stats from 1 game, good or bad. I mean, we can do that if you want I guess.... Ok, my turn. Providence 19pts 7reb 67% fga 6-9 60% 3pt. 3-5 100% ft. 4-4 Al’s numbers in the prior two seasons are decent enough in my opinion to qualify as what I called “not bad”. He’s averaging about the same in this season. So we are now saying we don’t know why he’s getting 30+ minutes? Really? Well shoot, I can help you out here. It’s because he’s a senior and the third leading scorer on a team that struggles to score. Make no mistake, the cupboard is bare in that respect. Just facts. I like Al. I really do. I disagree with most of the criticism thrown his direction. We contradict ourselves every time we post something saying AM players don’t show improvement or aggressiveness and then bag on Al for being the player he is. I don’t think Lander is ready for meaningful minutes, but I do think he should be getting more than 3-4 a game. 10 tops though. Understand and look at it realistically now. He’s a turnstile out there. He really is. Dude gave up a 7-0 run all by himself. Teams know this. They all watch film. The second he steps on the court, and I mean immediately, the guy he’s guarding takes him to the rim, first touch. I’m not sure that it was really ever the plan to have him play big minutes this year. I felt at the time that he was so undersized that the re-class was appropriate to get him into the conditioning program immediately. That way next season, he wouldn’t be behind physically when he really was expected to take a bulk of minutes. He needs practice reps and a slow roll out imo. Even with our current struggles.
