IU at Nebraska Game Thread 1/18 7 PM BTN
NashvilleHoosier replied to Hoosier Guy's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Solid day for the resume. Not that we will move any projected seed lines or anything like that, but we got a road win (I honestly thought there was a good chance that on selection sunday the biggest talking point about us would be if the committee ever let a team in that didn't win a single road game). We avoided what appears to be the last chance to have a bad loss. Our win against FSU continues to trend well. And now we're set up with some momentum going into a big resume opportunity week. Though I am a bit concerned whether the OSU win will end up being a quad 1 win at the end of the day. Trolling side note: great job by Archie coaching eight 3's to go into the basketball ring tonight. We needed those. Irrelevant side note: Vandy went 0-25 from three tonight. Ooof. -
Oh man....I hesitantly came to the board today expecting to catch up on a few days of miserable pitchforking and torching and I instead find out a season 3 of Ozark is coming? Wow, what a positive twist to start the day!

IUBB vs Ohio State Game Thread: 1/11/20 @noon...WILL HE BE THERE?!?
NashvilleHoosier replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I was a freshman when he was fired. So I grew up watching the teams he coached and fell in love with IU hoops while he was there. I could be in the minority here, but he could never show his face around campus ever again and I’d be completely fine with that. If he comes tomorrow, fine. Great. It will be a madhouse. But I couldn’t possibly care less if he ever came back. He’s been nothing but a grumpy curmudgeon. I don’t even care how much he felt like he was wronged. (This is the part where I leave his politics out of the discussion on a sports message board.) I don’t wish ill will on anyone. I know his condition has worsened. I hope he lives out the rest of his life as best he and his family could hope for. But as for whether he ever shows up....I don’t care at all. -

This has been the biggest thing that has bugged me about him this year. Aside from any of my thoughts on how much he has or has not improved, of all things, his instagram activity just kills me. FOR THE RECORD....I do not, never have, and never will interact with any player, prospect, recruit, etc. on social media. But I do follow some. An example of what kills me is Devonte reposted something to his instagram story from (I believe) the Big Ten Network's account of him taking a shot during the Maryland game. Whatever the caption was, it was somewhat flattering. But he's reposting this after a game where the team got their @$$es handed to them. Just leave it alone man. Not a good look at all. -

That's awesome. I've got another reason to be excited about this club! Nashville's soccer culture has grown pretty incredibly over the last decade or so. I think the MLS club will be very well supported. -
I was only able to watch roughly the last 15 minutes but I gather everything before that, and up until the 10 minute mark was uninspiring. I'll count that last 10 minutes as a temporary season saver and an opportunity to build off of something. Will it happen? Ehhhhh. I'll remain hopeful. I'm happy to hear the rotation will tighten up. Let some guys get into a rhythm and a few more know their role off the bench.

For what it's worth I saw the official attendance was announced at ~61,800. I also spent my Saturday night rewatching the game on DVR and properly pouting. I mostly wanted to see what the cameras were showing, but then got sucked in to wanting to see how so many things played out on TV vs. seeing it live. Surprise...the cameras focused a LOT on the UT crowd. But the glimpses I saw confirmed my in person feeling. I'm very confident saying we had at least 20,000 of that. Probably in the 22-23K range. A very solid showing for IU football in my opinion. Side notes: it also happened to be the 2nd highest attended and 4th most watched non-NY6 bowl. Great overall exposure. -
Who has said they don't? Of course they do. But these "great" example threads combined would reach a total of FOUR pages by one single post. We posted these example threads on the 27th page of ours. It's all relative.

I'll take this one step further. I'm confident enough to say with a win tonight, we would be 12-3. ;-)

So many things in this thread! 1.) Archie being a home run hire. His name came up with nearly every decent job opening for the few years ahead of him moving to IU. He was undoubtedly one of the most sought after coaches. My understanding is he was not going anywhere until a job like ours opened up. I understand there is good info out there that others turned us down. But its too easy to say Archie wasn't a home run hire now. At the time, it absolutely was. 2.) Is IU as elite of a job as fans think? There are so many factors that go in this but the history will always be there, the fans have continued to show up in the worst of times including a 6 win season, you could recruit and bring in ONLY players in state and have enough talent to win conference championships....the list goes on. I think we check nearly every box for being an elite job still. 3.) What's the single biggest factor making this job unattractive? Drumroll.............surprise, it's US!! (collectively, us, the fanbase, not just Btown Banners). This happens with passionate fanbases that care, but we can be both the absolute best and absolute worst thing about IU basketball.

13 of our remaining 17 remaining games he projects to be 2 possessions or less. So, completely unpredictable. Play like we are playing and likely only win a few more. Or, jumpstart ourselves on Wed. against NW and start playing with some heart and who knows. If KenPom's exact predictions play out I think that puts us at 5 quad 1 wins. With 8 other quad 1 losses that were 2 possessions or less (not saying a close loss counts for something, just saying we could easily win more). I think we'd be in at this record, and with only a slight improvement, comfortably in. I remain slightly hopeful. But realistically, that is very hard to see right now.
-
I'm not saying we will. But that wasn't the point of the post I was responding to. Just playing that scenario out. I personally think 10 conference wins are very hard to find right now. But if we do find them. We are in comfortably.
-
If we get to 20-11 that will be 10-10 in conference and include likely 5 or 6 more quad 1 wins and a really solid NET ranking. We'd be a solid 8 to 10 seed but not really on the bubble. Anyone who chooses to focus on the cupcakes we played at that point falls in to the portion of our fanbase that seriously needs to pick up yoga.

I think its pretty obvious already but a top 25 in-state team narrows it down to Butler. LaVall Jordan wouldn't be interested in the Indiana job. I get it. I don't disagree with his points. We are in a very tough spot right now and I find myself going back and forth all the time. After year 1, and even more so after last season went off the rails, I've been heavily leaning toward the side of there being numerous examples of successful coaches who did nothing at all in their first 3 years at a new job. I understand the Beard and Holtmann side of the argument as well. Archie is definitely fine until at least after next season, b/c I understand his buyout to be 100% through then, right? Regardless, I think that's fair. If we fire him after this season, there will be even more coaches with LaVall Jordan's attitude. We're also far from this season being down the drain. It's very hard to think that way right now, mainly b/c there is very little evidence that we will see a turnaround. But it can happen. If the season ended right now we are in the tournament. BUT....this team has given every indication that losing 11 of 12 again is very possible, and our schedule is brutal. If something like that happens, there is absolutely no stopping how toxic our fan base will be, even knowing that a coaching change isn't going to happen.

Agreed. My estimation was slightly over 60% orange. I also could not see the upper deck on our side. If it was mostly orange up there I’d say it was probably 65/35 orange. If it was primarily IU fans up there then 60/40 is safe. But we showed very well in my opinion. I was worried about that and the impression a poor showing would give future bowls we are in the running for. My opinion is we helped ourselves very much with this showing. -

What an incredible day. Damn this one stings. And it will sting for a while. I haven’t read through the thread but I’m sure all the times we shot ourselves in the foot have been covered many times over. I’ll just say that I truly believe someday we’ll be having celebratory drinks after a win in a bowl even more important than the gator bowl, reminiscing about how we managed to find a way to blow this game but it all being the start of something special. Book it. -

Sort of. Lots of Vols fans. A lot. But lots of Hoosier fans as well. I’d say maybe only slightly over the 60/40 mark in favor of Orange. Good showing for IU in my opinion. disclaimer: I cannot see the upper deck on our side. -

Even more encouraged about the turnout as the day goes on. But sheesh I didn’t know about any big injury. Yikes. IMG_8772.MOV -

Beautiful day for win #9!! Early report (from me only) is that we are well represented down here! The city is certainly not bustling yet but we saw plenty of Hoosier fans out and about on a little jog this morning. We will still be outnumbered but I’m pretty optimistic about our showing at this point. -
I know you’re joking but I would love for IU to (and think we should) be a part of an event like this. Archie and bro should spearhead another 4 team event that rotates sites. See if UNC, dook, or Kansas will join another one. If not UNC or dook, Louisville or Virginia. If not Kansas, maybe go outside the power 5 with Gonzaga or Nova. I’m fine with the crossroads classic but I can’t stand seeing OSU and MSU being a part of those events every year while we play in an event no one cares about outside of the state.

Prediction League (Game 14 - @ Maryland 1/4/20)
NashvilleHoosier replied to Str8Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm going with: IU - 73 Maryland - 65 Coverdale with a heroic performance on a bum ankle, nailing a couple huge triples in the final minutes. Fife shuts down Dixon for only 8 points on 3-12 shooting. Odle does an admirable job banging with the Terps' bigs, and Jeffries is just a matchup nightmare for their bigs. I'll be there in row 32 behind the basket to watch us hang banner #6!! Wait.....what year is it? What game are we talking about? I turned by brain off last night around 7:30pm CST. -
Right, but this isn’t your typical IU team playing in a typical IU game. I’m a perfect example here where I went to exactly 2 football games during my 4.5 years as a student and I’ve been to exactly 3 in the 15 years since I graduated. But there was no way I was going to miss an 8 win team playing in the gator bowl. I don’t know where exactly to draw the line at “showing well”. But they (the bowl people) say they expect a sellout. If that’s about 65K, it would be amazing if we had 25K of that. If we had 15K or less, it will feel pretty lopsided. Even though in many bowl games 15k would be great.

Does anybody know how ticket sales are going specifically for IU fans? I keep hearing that UT fans are doing more than their part, though it could easily be their over-inflated sense of where their program stands talking. I fully expect we will be outnumbered, but it would be a huge bummer if we don’t show well. I know ticket sales overall seem to be strong. I just really hope it’s not 75% orange.

Flight, hotel and tickets booked! Considering the "Land only" package I posted about earlier has now increased by $135/person, I'll have saved about $1000 total per person booking on my own, though we don't get all those fancy extras like a lanyard. One thing I am interested in is the Big Red Warm up event the day of the game. Tickets for this are $75 per person. Does anybody know details about this event? Does the $75 include food and drinks of some sort? I sure hope so. EDIT: Emailed the ticket office and they tell me the Big Red warmup ticket includes unlimited food, beer and wine and includes a water taxi over to the field if anyone is interested. We'll be looking for an IU crowd anyway. I think $75 is probably worth it.
