Calbert was with the pacers. He also hired a couple of development guys. And Walsh was not an assistant under Miller.

He kept one assistant, one staff and the strength coach. Not sure that’s most.

If a younger guy, like May, had these results I think we might be more lenient because he is not nearing retirement.

Gallo overplayed their PG to take away the outside shot and the PG then backcut. Gallo recovered and forced a little turn around/reverse shot that the PG made look easy but was a clever cut and shot. I think he only scored 2 points in the second half and for awhile Gallo started applying pressure ful court. The full court/token pressure was when we made our run and seemed to speed them up a little and get them out of rhythm. So while that was effective, I am sure Gallo was a bit gassed and the backcut was the perfect play to run. After that basket there was a TO and Woody lit into Gallo. I thought Gallo's d was what helped get us back in the game and the chewing out seemed excessive but I understand you sometimes do that with leaders. I think it was shortly after this Gallo stopped guarding full court and the short lived rally ended. Not sure if related but I remember sayig to myself at that TO I hope Woody does not change things now that the game is close. That was the only change i noticed.

    Law advice - Auto

My daughter was recently in an auto accident which totaled the car and sent her to the hospital. Fortunately, she walked away with a fractured sternum, sprained ankle and several bruises so we are very thankful. She had an older car and it was totaled (value ~ $5000-$7000) and her current medical bills are around $10,000 before insurance. The other driver (Truck going east bound) was waiting to turn across oncoming traffic and as the light was changing to yellow he turned into this intersection. My daughter was traveling westbound into the intersection at about 45 mph and the cars collided. No witnesses to the accident came forward to shed any more light. The other driver claimed my daughter ran a red light she is convinced it was just turning yellow. I went to the intersection recently and watched the sequence and i could not see a scenario where the accident would have been her fault. IF she did run a red light, then the truck turning in front of her also ran the red light (both at fault at a minimum or maybe more him since he turned in front of on coming traffic). IF the light was yellow as she described it would clearly be the truck's fault. My insurance said it would likely go to arbitration since both parties are saying "not me". So my question is, would it be worth contacting an attorney for this? The costs on our side are not large. My daughter does have some fear now to drive so even adding that as pain and suffering I know this is not a big case for any attorney. But I have heard that insurance companies have sort of decided it is not worth the money to fight on small deals like this and will just agree to settle with a no-fault and move on. Any advice would be appreciated.

I do not disagree. I think the points that @Ngw7183 was making about whether donors are going to be willing to shell out big money for a buyout would likely come with strings attached to hiring someone who is more of a sure thing. We have not done the sure thing hire before and like you described with one donor willing to contribute a lot of money if we could have hired BS last time, I think this is a similar point that NGW is making. Sure he may be one of a few who think Woody should stay but the rest of his post makes a strong case for why some big money donors may become willing to act but only if we are able to land a sure thing.

It seems some only read your last paragraph and have missed several good points. We are looking for some big $s to come in and pay a large buyout and those same people should be asking what are we going to do differently this time to ensure we get it right. Perhaps, if the wheels fall off completely the rest of the year they might feel a change is necessary regardless but if I were being asked once again to put up big money for a buyout I would want more certainty that we get it right. For Dusty to fall into this tier he would have to have an incredible run in the NCAAT which is an almost unfair expectation but is probably necessary for him to pass up some older, more established coaches who have proven over time they can build a top 20 team year after year.

While you don’t overlook giving up a 20 point deficit at the half the defensive pressure adjustment here was a good call. Can it last?

Rabby made a good comment about needing to have success with HS recruiting and some gap filling with the portal. If you recruit that HS level well you raise your floor.

Seemed like a lot of Booing in that first half.

Good catch, that is true but, i still think it is a stretch to say he kept Archie's staff when he kept 1 asst, 1 staff and the strength guy. There are plenty of other things to focus on.

    They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Yeah i made that same point. He kept 1 assistant and 1 staff member (Walsh) and brought in several new amongst them Fife, Cal, Ya, Thad and Hulls. Thad and Fife left soon after but still he only kept 1 assistant. I think that is a good idea for most new coaches if there is talent on the team you want to retain.

Woody only kept one of Archie's assistant coaches, Hunter. Ya is new and Fife was new. Walsh was on Archie's staff but only moved up to Assistant after Fife was let go. Calbert, Hulls are new additions to the extended staff. So I don't really get this idea that he kept Archie's staff.

(2024) PF - Derik Queen to Maryland

This is not a sour grapes we never wanted him post, but I am not sure how many recruits we want that would choose us after how we played this year. Supposedly DQ was leaning our way because of Woodys ability to get TJD and Ware to the NBA. That is a fine part of the analysis but I think we would be better in the long run focusing on kids who want to go to a winning program. So had DQ chose us despite next year not looking good, no high end PG signed and primarily interested because of the NBA potential, it would seem to go against our desires to compete for titles. Now I don’t think DQ is a bad kid or would keep us from winning but I never got why we needed him given our roster.

Appreciate the post and the thoughts but does this identify you to the staff/AD dept? Maybe they don’t follow the boards but if they do, I just wanted to make sure they don’t come for a visit and hand you a cardboard box.

I think it would be very hard to stay the course if this happens. Fan pressure, media pressure, maybe some NIL $ pressure will increase to make a change. Fans in AH and wherever the BT tournament are will likely voice their displeasure at games and this will just add to the pressure.

Is the Trilly news all we are going on or has there been more. I mean, it isn’t like Trilly has been as accurate as he was initially

Not limiting the ability (of the AD) to make changes (to the HC position). Giving Woody the $1m raise was probably not needed and not really warranted but does not further limit Dolson's ability to fire Woody whereas an extension, like Crean got, could have raised the buyout.

I am curious about this too. Hopefully after @chris sneaks into SD's office to get a picture of his list of candidates he can host a players only outing to get the scoop.

    They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Understood but I don't recall that many people suggesting he needed to be fired at that time. So I would not say it was covering up a problem but perhaps trusting too much in a style change post TJD and landing the big recruits. As that did not happen, then this season went south those problems became more obvious. The not a big deal part relates more to not limiting our ability to make a change.

Does the $1m raise hurt us much? At the time, we had improved year 1 to year 2 and were seemingly on the "verge" of getting a big recruiting class for 2024. You could make a case that the $1m increase was to signal any external noise that they had confidence in Woody and perhaps help seal the deal with recruits. As it seems with every momentum we have had since RMK left, it quickly died out. But at least it was not an extension ala Crean.

@chris if as you say he is back for next year but you think that will be his last, does that mean he leaves next year regardless? If we just make the NCAA but again are an early out is he still going to be gone (retire)? If we somehow get to a sweet 16, but the prospects for the following year are questionable would we keep him for year 5?

We may still need more patience than we have shown other coaches. But a younger guy like May (or similar) I think we would be more willing to let them learn on the job than someone in their late 60's.

Looks like Baylor has had the same AD and President since 2017. The AD seems to share some similiar values as Drew so that stability could be attractive to stay as well. But, he would be at the top of my list. If he does have some bad reputation with the HS and AAU coaches here though that may just as big an issue
