I'm just gonna leave this right here
8bucks replied to jdailey1981's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I guess the question is whether or not the amount of money brought in today is enough. I think it is nice that other sports have done well. Wasn't it just two years ago we almost won the college cup? Still if the two revenue sports do not do well then I suspect mr glass will find his seat hotter than he wants. -

Remember when Crean got the job here. We had people tracking flights and insiders giving tips and we thought we were getting Lon Kruger. Then all of a sudden the news switches and about the time Crean arrives in Bloomington we find out who the coach is. The point is that back channel whispers can be very quiet and if anyone is talking to any coach about replacing Crean they better not let word get out. We did it before when we hired Crean and IF we replace him I suspect and hope we do not hear about back channel discussions. -
IUBB vs. Eastern Washington Post Game Thread

It would feel a little better if EWU hangs on but the way we lost the game to them was frustrating. We had it in hand then suddenly stopped playing D and let them take the game away. -
Hoosier Transfers and Recruiting Targets

Ok. I think we are a legit big away from being a championship level team next year. I agree that with what we have coming in and coming back we could be top 15-20 good but not sure we have enough to get past sweet 16. I get that is still pretty good and should warrant some excitement but then after that year we lose Yogi, Nick and HP and possibly JBj. So another peak at sweet 16 then reload. -
Hoosier Transfers and Recruiting Targets

Who is it that gives us size next year? I thought Morgan was essentially the same height as Perea. Does he play more like a center or is he a rebound machine? -
Yeah I heard that too. There were announcers back in 12/13 that made comments as well about how hard and intense our practices were that year too.

Just came across this article and thought it was interesting.

Does not make sense that even small schools would not offer. Yeah the release starts low and is slower but if that is all, it would seem strange someone would not give him a chance. -
Maybe after a few months but I doubt he could join the team in January and be the best player on the team at that point. That is what it seemed you were suggesting.
-
You think that he would be better than Yogi and JBj?
-
The problem I have here is that would be two years in a row that we did the addition by subtraction thing. Next year probably needs to be THE year because the year after that JBj and Yogi, HP and NZ are gone. I cannot disagree that if Stan and Troy are hurting the team dynamic then they need to go. I would prefer if that is the case they sit now too so others can get their PT. However, if we don't stem the tide of addition by subtraction we will be in big doo doo.
-
Not to doubt you but after the Savannah St game Crean went out of his way to praise and support Stan. Was this just coach speak? “It’s not easy for him,” IU coach Tom Crean said. “I try to remind him that even in his second game back, he was even one of the guys at the end of the game finishing the game for us in the last five minutes of the game. But Stan works extremely hard. Since he’s been back, he doesn’t go home after the walk‑through. He eats, he sits around a little bit and then he goes back out in the gym and shoots. I see it countless (times). I’m worried, ‘OK, are you working too hard?’ I mean, he wants it so bad.”
-
Oh I agree but I heard that going into this year too. Addition by subtraction two years in a row seems like bad math.
-
I agree with the OP and thought we should be in the top 25 and playing very well at the end of the year. The lack of D disappoints though. Still even if we get that fixed we are not yet much better for next year unless we get a big that will start day 1. So best case top 25 at end of this year and 2 wins in tourney. No new recruits added we are probably top 20 most of the year but not likely to get too far in tourney the following year Then year 3 yogi graduates and JBj goes pro and we are young again.
-
I agree but I had hoped in year 7 Crean would have been way past what he inherited. He definitely got an A+ from me in years 1-4. Since then, since he built a new platform on guys like Zeller, Hulls, VO and Watford it seems to be slipping away. Too young last year. Too young this year. Now we are talking about sending Troy and Stan away next year.
-
I agree but doesn't that combined with the possibility of losing Stan and Troy once again make us young yet again?
-
I am going to go out on a limb and suggest they won a game in 2010
-
I would actually prefer to have several 4 star bigs that we develop (even though we have not done that yet) into legit bigs. Not develop into lottery picks necc but guys that can be really good for more than 1 year.

Didn't Mike Riley almost come to indiana for a coaching or AD job

Hoosier Transfers and Recruiting Targets

I think you and CF are correct. Remy and Hollowell fit in that boat, Roth and Creek in another and you could add Jurkin in another. While all have separate reasons we lost a lot of guys recently that could have helped provide veteran leadership. -

Isn't the argument for keeping guys like Remy primarily related to the lack of leadership concerns we have? It seems each of the last two years we keep hearing we are young and don't have veteran leaders. Guys like Remy, even if role players can be that veteran leader we seem to be missing. The last couple of years we have had guys like Remy leave and have replaced with freshmen. I remember guys like Joe Hillman who did not average a ton of points but was such a valuable leader his final years. -
The State of our program- How do you guys feel about it?
8bucks replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Your comments on Glass are precisely why some on message boards feel the need to be so vocal about Crean needing to go now. It is a bit of a process and when the AD makes comments about keeping a guy beyond what people want then they start to show dissatisfaction as they can. Message boards are one area but attendance at games and donations are larger signals. I know that we are finishing a holiday break but attendance has been down recently. We should watch as the season goes on - this was one of the indicators for Davis. Another smaller example is the poster who works for the foundation calling for donations. They are not calling IU athletic boosters specifically but the poster on here mentioned a noticeable increase in dissatisfaction for the bball program amongst alumni they called. Unfortunately I think Glass has to give the impression that he is keeping Crean even if he has decided otherwise. Right now I believe he does plan to bring him back even if we have a mediocre year. Thus those who are against this idea will get more vocal if things do not improve. -
I was basing my comment off Quinn himself. It might be he preferred basketball but he did say that he eventually had to choose and could not keep playing both.
-
Sure if college was the end of the line but if Darius stays injury free and keeps progressing he will be earning an NFL paycheck some day.
-
Quinn did play but as he got past his sophomore year he saw basketball was a more likely path for him and he gave up football.
-
I think he is too important to the football team at this point. An injury would really hurt them and they do not need any additional hurdles. He has also been playing football and going all out for several months. There is a reason the football team has an offseason and that is to let the body heal and get ready for next season.
