Original plan was to come for the game only.

This is good. I went back and looked at how his teams finished their last 10 games of the season. 1 year here and 1 year at Marq did his teams have a better winning % at the end of the year. I left out the tournament recod otherwise the winning percentage gets even worse. Crean supporters like to defend him but the numbers over his career just add more doubt. Good Info

Potential fallout from coaching change
8bucks replied to HoosiersLoveBanners's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Well one rumor we can put to rest was whether Mrs Crean was in attendance. Anyone know on that? -
I thought we gave them too many reasons to leave us out after the Iowa loss. Today and the amazing slide just make it too easy to choose someone else. Now, if we have Minn and the MD that is a pretty favorable draw in the BTT. Beating lower seeded Minn probably does not help much but a big win and a win or really good game against MD may do it.

How about this. The Michigan team was similar to our team last year that finished 9th. They had lost a lot of talent from the prior year and were young. Like us last year. Now imagine if we lost our best player, Noah. You think we still finish 9th? How about if we lose another key player like Troy (last year). Think we still finish 9th? With all they had to overcome they were only two spots behind us.

This is interesting. May point out why Matt was not so welcome to come back. You will not be believed though because Grandmas probably lie when in Michigan.
-
I would venture to say that Davis had the better postseason record too while they were IU coaches. Much better in BTT and getting to championship game with three other appearances is better.
-
I really believe Crean is better than Davis but under Davis our average BT finish was 4.6. Under Crean, just since the rebuild was done, our average finish is 5.5. What exactly is the risk
-
All of them favor coaches. They have to have access to the programs to do their jobs well none of them ever talk bad about a coach.
-
Let's also look at Michigan. They have lost a ton of guys to the NBA the last couple of years. Not five star guys that were likely headed there but guys like Vic that surprised and went early. Then this year they lose their two best players for more of the year and a had a few more injuries on top of that. Where did they finish? Only 2 games behind us.
-
If not mistaken they seem to have key injuries every other year
-
Good point. The top programs in the BT do. Look at Wisconsin and their injuries the last few years.
-
On a case by case basis like this you can always find a what if. The problem is all programs have what ifs and yet manage to overcome those. When you have these year after year after year either you have incredibly bad luck or some other problems.
-
Seems to be the case every year except for Cody's years. Remember the same complaints about Rivers and Jeremy last year. Many wonder about Stan's playing time too.
-
lets say it is Bryant who many do not think is a one and done. Add him to a bubble team with one more year of experience. Is that really a stacked team? What does stacked mean exactly? Had we maintained a high position in the BT and finished this year reasonably well I once thought adding a legitimate big put us in the top ten. Now I have a lot of doubts.

So we could keep Crean and lose Yogi, Troy and not sign one of these five stars.
-
And once when he was the coach at Marquette - the DWade year
-
Everyone seems so argumentative. I know some of you this week have said you know believe Crean should go at seasons end but now you are arguing as if Crean is the most logical coach for us next year. Is it just one of those days to argue semantics?
-
I am pretty sure now that he will listen but he has done that a lot in the past. You just don't know with him until He decides.
-
Well it could simply be one of the other guys who said that but it certainly seems to point to a couple of guys.

A few NCAA games

Heard another angle on this which though a little new still fits with Crean not being the coach beyond the BTT. Jake Query related that feelers were sent out to some potential candidates. One of the things learned in this process was that the candidates valued some time between Crean leaving and them coming. They did not want to feel like Crean was pushed out to bring them in. Thus, an interim period with an interim coach. He may have talked more about who was contacted but this was the only segment I caught. So assuming this is true, I can think of one candidate who I can see saying this. Not that they all didn't but one in particular I could see this being suggested. It was not reported that they were close to an agreement with that person so there is certainly risk here. Nonetheless, thought I would share since I had not seen this angle discussed.

Potential fallout from coaching change

I did not yet. I was wondering if I should just show up tomorrow and tell them you and Fred set me up for free tickets or keep waiting on the PM. -
Or maybe Martin stays and this is the last chance Bryant has to see IU live.

Potential coaching change suggestions

Think Cal was working through Brian Evans who played for him in NJ.
