Potential fallout from coaching change
8bucks replied to HoosiersLoveBanners's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Winthrop to WSU was an advancement. Read the cbs article inked above. While reading the first half I thought ok no way he is coming. Then I read the bottom part saying when he goes to a big conference he is waiting for a top program in that conference so he can compete on level ground. Hmmm -

Why? -
At first I thought your response "done" was in response to the OPs question.

I am pretty sure it is the last one of this year. As for the rest, time will tell -

I get it when those pop up in other threads but when you go clicking on threads with "coaching change" in the title you might just expect to find comments about a coaching change. -

No NIT at assembly hall this year due to construction. @KentSterling: If IU goes to NIT, construction at Assembly Hall will keep IU from hosting NIT game, which saves embarrassment of 2005-esque apathy.

Most agree. We only disagree on the best way to consistently put a team together. -
I think we are in and would not be surprised to make a little run.

Didn't we play good bit of zone in the second half? It might have just been the top guys switching but I think we did play zone last night. Even the shot before the half from NW I believe we were in a zone which is why their player was basically open in the middle

For those who think we are not elite and we should not expect to attract a top coach, these numbers are just another reason why the opportunities to do well here are high.

Potential fallout from coaching change

Good chance he stays now but that does not mean people were not contacted. This is done through non affiliated people so you're not going to find a source much better than that. I admit he is not perfect but he is employed by 1260 and while they like ratings they are going to have some caution about alienating IU with outright lies. -

He talked quite a bit about IU sending out feelers to several coaches. Pretty sure they contacted Stevens and possibly some of the others we have talked about. You don't start making contacts if you aren't thinking about making a change. Query mentioned that Stevens would likely listen but would be more comfortable if there was some time between when the job opened and when they talk. Not real long but did not want it to look like he ran Crean off. I think since then IU may have also heard that next year would be better timing. I think this may also have come from a couple of top candidates. That combined with the potential TB commit might give Crean another year. -

Would Jake Query be a real source? Former local television guy now has an afternoon radio show. -

On air responses are probably different than off air. -
So if three kids in the opposing teams section try to start a chant that fails the summary is Indiana fans are low and negative.
-
It matters because the original idea was that Indiana fans were doing this. Then it was the student section of the opposing team now we learn it was a few kids who tried but everyone else ignored. So the story could easily be a few kids tried to start a tom Crean sucks chant but no one followed their lead. It did not last long because by the time the HS principle got over it had stopped.

Sampson probably but Davis beat him in the FF. Still give the edge to Sampson Davis had better results during his 6 years than Crean has had in the 4 since the rebuild. I give him the edge but I think Crean could pass once he gets a fresh start. Dakich should not be on the list.
-
Not saying we are doing anything like this but does this feel like Blue Chips to anyone.
-
I am not sure if it is a $ issue. If there was a way to spend more for assistants to help minimize recruiting time that might be a better way to throw money at him.
-
Original plan was to come for the game only.

This is good. I went back and looked at how his teams finished their last 10 games of the season. 1 year here and 1 year at Marq did his teams have a better winning % at the end of the year. I left out the tournament recod otherwise the winning percentage gets even worse. Crean supporters like to defend him but the numbers over his career just add more doubt. Good Info

Well one rumor we can put to rest was whether Mrs Crean was in attendance. Anyone know on that? -
I thought we gave them too many reasons to leave us out after the Iowa loss. Today and the amazing slide just make it too easy to choose someone else. Now, if we have Minn and the MD that is a pretty favorable draw in the BTT. Beating lower seeded Minn probably does not help much but a big win and a win or really good game against MD may do it.

How about this. The Michigan team was similar to our team last year that finished 9th. They had lost a lot of talent from the prior year and were young. Like us last year. Now imagine if we lost our best player, Noah. You think we still finish 9th? How about if we lose another key player like Troy (last year). Think we still finish 9th? With all they had to overcome they were only two spots behind us.
