Seems Crean heard about some of the push back on his earlier complaints and is trying to further convince people. And yes we are thin up there but every year he has experience problems. Biefelt also has extra experience but he is omitted in this defense. I would not be surprised to see an article come out soon talking about how great we are playing despite being very young up front. Or perhaps ol Seth Greenburg will come to his defense on this very subject.

I think you make some good points but Creans seat is not hot today because of his mannerisms. Sure some were turned off early on but many, like myself, turned from an avid defender to doubter over time. The turn occurred because of his inability to maintain success which caused me to look back at his Marquette days and noticed the same thing. Had Crean kept winning those of us who turned the last few years did so because of the swings and inconsistencies. If our next guy has the same lack of consistency then we will be back in a few years. If he wins consistently then those who complain about clapping type of things are drowned out but the rest of us

Dane was a HC for 5 years building IPFW into a division 1 program. His teams at IPFW got better every year but he was definitely learning on the fly. If he leaves in the next year or so he would probably got to a mid major level team but if holds on for another 3 or so years he may be able to jump s little higher.

Regarding an extension, how long are most thinking? Could we include more years but a buyout protection for us if he were to continue to build and have someone bigger come a calling?

I travelled with a friend of his (Brad Stevens) from his Depauw days (they had dinner a couple nights prior). This was a year and half ago now but the two things he was convinced would cement him in the NBA or drive him back to college were his competitive drive and family time. Boston has a ton of draft picks in the upcoming years,especially next year. He has done an incredible job coaching a average team to above average results. If he has enjoyed that and thinks the picks will translate into an even more competitive team that will be tough to overcome. His other draw is his family. While the season is long and they are away from family a lot then, NBA coaches have summers off. A few meetings here and there but otherwise they have a ton of time for family. His friend thought this would be the primary driver. Is the family time in the summer, when college coaches are recruiting, a good trade for the time away during the season.

If we make a midseason move it is about more than some hope to get better this year. Remember the fans booing at s few games last year? Imagine that starts to become regular. Imagine Glass saying things publicly like he has Toms back and what that will do to a fan base that had turned. The midseason move is not about getting more wins in the short term but it would be about decreasing the pressure on the IU ball program and players.

Some guys are great in that Will Sheehey role. Not the focal point but s great 3-4th option and one that will give you 4-5 big games a year which is what you need for they role. For that I am fine with him

I think this is what you get with athletes first type of players. Even VO was a bit inconsistent on offense but you could always count on his defense. That is not the case with Troy

Stephens is the logical first call but to assume he is the only option is crazy. Best, sure but not only. There is a very big gap between Crean and Stephens and I am sure there are some options in between.

I agree. Folks will assume the midseason change is done based on a perceived idea that we will win more with him gone mid year. We may not but the pressure on him, the kids and the program will be very high and the potential for something ugly will increase. Heck even when opposing teams HS student section taunts CTs son then the IU fan base takes the hit

IF we play inconsistently how can we expect fans to not react that way. IF Glass continues to throw out support for Crean, which he will do until he fired him, then passionate fans have little recourse to express dissatisfaction with what appears to be support for mediocrity. I am not encouraging booing but I completely understand why It might happen.

True enough but what is Creans role then? He either poorly prepares his guys to perform those functions because they repeat every year or he has really, really bad luck because the players keep losing games for him

Um we did that quite a bit this week. CT even agreed and benched some of the guy's but not long enough.

Well at least we don't have to go back to a hotel on the beautiful Maui island upset knowing that you laid an egg. And knowing that you have to take a long flight back home and try to enjoy some family time while also knowing you have to find a way to right this ship quickly. Becoming more normal. The linked article mentioned some things I had not thought of but I thin it misses the rabid fan base issue I mentioned above. This is an example of why I think you have to consider a midseason move. The fan base was ready last year but reluctantly backed off when TB committed and the others came back. Then Maui and folks who had been on his side and jumping ship too. Thinking they we have to get Fred's attention will lead to drastic ideas like this and will only lead to guys like Seth Davis whining about how we are treating a "great" coach. The torches and pitchforks will seem necessary to make s statement because Fred cannot say anything negative until he pulls the plug. If you make a midseason move then the fan pressure backs off a little and we can fully support the team without the distraction of the coach.

I am not saying it did not happen but I had not even bothered to consider whether it might not have happened or at least not to the degree described by the Creans until JQs tweet.

Anyone else get tired of how when a team scores on us with three seconds in the first half Crean is more concerned with calling a TO and setting up some poor play for us to shoot? Last night was the most recent but it is almost like he watched Belichick let a team score late once and thinks it is cool to do. Not the first time I have noticed this either. Seems as if he is on the sidelines ready to call TO instead of being all in on making sure the D stops the other team.

Oh hey I was waiting for this defense to be used. Who did you compare us to last year, or the year before or the year before. See it is a pattern here while at those schools it is often either the exception or the motivator to change things. All of those teams can take occasional losses during the year because they often find ways to make runs in the tourney. Over Creans tenure he has made one run. Pattern.
