Does Valpo have anyone in their conference to provide competition?

I think RMK was wrong. Many pro coaches get several months off during the summer. Occasionally having some on-site meetings but mostly they get away. Of course the more successful your team is the longer they play and the shorter the off season is.

What do you think they got last year? Did we get a comment to talk with him when the job was open or was it an indicator of when he might have interest or was it something different. I casually know someone who BS knew from Depauw and they indicated some doubts about them liking Boston but also thought the longer summer breaks might be something they did like. I have not talked with the friend recently and did not yet find out how the summers were going. Always felt family time, competitiveness (not just making the playoffs) and what they thought of Boston vs Midwest would be key factors.

I won't argue with that. I think the potential is there as demonstrated by the money we can raise for assembly hall, recruiting travel, head coach salary and facilities. Indiana does have to decide though if they are or were Indiana.

This is true but ask yourself - did we give our best effort when we hired Davis? Did we give our best when we hired Sampson? Did we give our best effort when we hired Crean. Even if you think we gave a great effort when we got Crean, that is 33% of our efforts. We completely whiffed with Davis and Sampson only made sense to one idiot. So given that, sure our results over the last 20 years has been disappointing but that is because we have not given out best effort to hire the best guy. Just like when playing basketball. If you don't prepare to excel - you won't.

If a guy is not effective and the coach keeps asking him to do things he is not able to do then I share the blame with the coach. Troy is effective in the baseline most of the time. Repeat this and you will do well. Troy is effective from the top of the key 1 game in 5. Try this but abandon if not working.

I don't put it all on Troy. Someone is instructing him and the team to have him operated and arrack from the top. Perhaps Troy could have worked more in the off season and been more prepared to be an occasional PG but it is clear this is something Crean thinks gives us an advantage.

Miller is in year 5. We don't know much about him other than he has had a couple of good runs in the NCAAs. After Creans first five years there was some similarities. Year 5 Crean won his first conference title and had DWade and the FF run. Archie may not make s FF run but is ready to win his first conference title too. The gauge is what happens next for Archie. Does he have 5 following years where they finish 8th, 9th, 5th, 4th and 5th in his conference and only 1 NCAA win or does he stay at the top of his conference.

IF we can keep our core and stop the roster turnover issues then i agree and think we may be on the cusp of a nice 3-4 year run. IF is the issue though. We felt this way with the Yogi class, then with the Troy/Stan/Noah class. Fisher fits in there somewhere too. Some of the lesser known guys that left have hurt too. I would have liked to see Max in his upperclassmen years. Same with Devin Davis and Emmit Holt. These (other than Noah) were not early NBA guys. IF Crean can decrease our roster turnover then sustained success is achievable except some of the roster turnover was due to kids that could not behave off the court. A lot of schools have some trouble but when we have kids transfer at a high rate and we have to kick kids off the turnover is hard to manage. Can Crean figure this out? I dunno but if he does I think he can have us as a consistent winner.

I am have not been a TC defender for a few years but with regards to the comment about complimenting Crean for an adjustment Beilein did this when we used Yogi on Stauskas. Beilein on Crean We didn't get many good shots today," Beilein said. "Credit their defense. The defensive game plan was outstanding. We have never seen anything like it since I've been here." ESPN, in an article mentioned this: "Did Crean crack the code? Michigan’s two games since are suggestive. " He may not do this consistently but it has happened.

You don't understand. This year, DWade and 2012-13 up through winning the BT. The other 12 years were a fluke.

Ironically I think that season shows even at Duke you have to have coaching. Without K, they miss the tourney. With him they have not missed it.

Pressure like we had at the end of last year but amplified. There may be some big money that wants him to stay but that will potentially make those opposed even louder.

I once had a wicked dream during a nap on the red leather couches in the union. The dream included a lot of movement and some yelling which woke me up. I had attracted quite a large observation group. Public Naps rock!

mdn82, you may be right but I just find it hard to believe I am so far off on this. I have no contacts and base my thoughts only on gut opinion fed by my own sense of logic. I just cannot imagine a realistic scenario where we have another late season collapse and Crean returns. I would hope those that might support his return under such a situation underestimate the pressure that would build. There could be some who think he is great now but I think the tide swing would flip many who right now would laugh if reading my post

Yeah I have seen Crean mention this before as well. It is hard to tell if his idea of tapering is still more aggressive than others who also taper off. I have no idea but I am skeptical.

I agree. Just wanted to get it in the discussion in case others see similar comments throughout the end of the season. A few scattered here and there after a poor game is fine

Actually according to some, beating back to back opponents by 30 is what is really impressing. You just can't discount how impressive that is.

Don't blame the refs. We shot twice as many free throws as PSU, turned the ball over too much and dos not shoot well from outside. When teams play tight D against us on the perimeter we struggle. Dakich called out OSU for sitting back and letting us set things up. Wisconsin did not. UM did not have the guard speed to press us. Last year I thought Iowa tended to lay back and not guard our guards tight so we may have a good chance against them. Unless they watch the tape.

It works often the first possession we use it then they find the weakness and beat it for the next several possessions before Crean figures it out
