Luck has some role in this for sure but with a little bit better pass protection and a little better coaching (no TEs blocking Clowney) then I think Luck shines again. Those that just bash him seem to be taking their que from Dakich. Dakich makes some good points but he also is blind to placing any blame with Grigson which dilutes his perspective

The HC has to set that culture and fear though. Makes no sense that renegade trainers would do this on their own. An earlier article mentioned that the trainers were a little fearful to go to the coaches with the info on hurt players so perhaps Wilson set the tone by chewing them out which caused them to push guys harder. Regardless though the memo from Glass to Wilson said Wilson had to make sure he and his staff were not doing the prior bad things. He was responsible for his staff

Kickers really don't need experience playing football, if they can kick. The Aussie football probably helped get him physically ready enough.

True but the question is, will he get a job as good as this one. IU not by any means a football power but this job is better than a coordinator job or a HC at a lower level. So perhaps he gave up a smaller amount by betting on himself - the payout on that bet is not likely going to be better than where he was. Even when Mike Davis left he got more $. Coaches don't usually leave like this, they take the firing $ and then go and get another job. So if he comes out flat by doing this the "bet on himself" I have to believe he still would have preferred to stay at IU

I don't think many of us like the firing either. But after reading the star and ESPN articles combined with Wilson leaving so much money behind, instead of being upset with Glass the target of the frustration may be Wilson himself. Glass showed he was willing to keep Wilson around based on the extension last year. It really appears as if Wilson gave him no choice.

I think that is a great question. Perhaps not an obvious firable offense but why then would Wilson leave so much money on the table?

In the ESPN article that was previously linked. "The trainers would hate to go up and tell him about injured players because Wilson would [curse] them," said the player, who requested anonymity. "Then he'd go into the training room and tell the players, 'No, you're going to [expletive] practice,' and, of course, the players would go practice."

Though logical, the bridesmaids thing never seems to help. Seems like when prior guys opened back up or were looking to transfer we were not in the mix. Noticed it somewhat with other schools too.

The articles in the Star and on ESPN today paint a little clearer picture. The star got access to a lot of information pretty quickly. it seemed as if FG had some new comments as well but it is possible those were just worked in based on the presser.

FG seems to be a pretty patient AD based on how he has let Crean and Wilson build their programs. Neither had quick turnarounds and Creans seat seemed on fire a couple of years back but FG kept with him. So to let Wilson go after getting to another bowl, clearly Wilson had to have given him plenty of reasons.

What were they doing during the Tiller days. They had to have had a pretty good revenue steam coming in to upgrade. Combine that with the BTN revenue and they should have been able to do more than us. Crazy

You never know. Perhaps Allen showed the opposite behavior towards the injured players which might be why FG Glass indicated with his comments about not demeaning kids. If Allen continues our bowl run then FG will be OK.

Assuming we had to make a coaching move - I love the hire. Also assuming he showed a lot of class and vision his one year on the staff helped Glass make the decision. Loved his passion during the presser. Think he can be a great ambassador for the school. Sure hope he wins here.

When you say dropped that do you mean he had that problem but overcame or something else. I had heard he had success overcoming but assumed reading between the lines that something like that came back. Would this have accounted for a resignation though?

Yes but some guys are tricky and may try to sneak a letter in there so I wanted to make sure we had the legalese correct.

I agree and don't think Johns is a proven candidate. He may be great but from an outsiders perspective I would prefer a more proven guy there

But if so simple, why would Glass not do just that? Glass has been slow to make changes for the most part and if the fix is that simple then you make this change and keep your coach.

Do we really have confidence on the offensive side without Wilson? Other RB and our line coach I think Wilson was the engine driving things on offense. I would like to see us pour money into the OC with a veteran coach who also fills in the asst HC role to help Allen find his way as a HC.
