Yeah I remember that delay as well and wondered about it but if he is still a UCLA employee wouldn't he be restricted anyway. -

Wonder how many other Indiana coaches feel this way? Schilling, if brought in, would presumably be the guy to help us do better in the state. -

The assistant coaches are often the ones who do the initial leg work, scouting and put together the game plan for the next games so there is more to there role than just recruiting. Looks like a well balanced staff in that regard -

We have a lot of guards but how many PGs do we have? -

Perfectly fine with that and think his east coast connections will help as well. -

I actually like the look of the staff. I questioned only the term "great". If you want to say Bruiser is a solid, good or experienced X and Os guy, I am fine with all that. I like the variety of the staff but in the end Archie is the guy who has to work with these guys and if he is excited I am fine with it. -

I am not to worked up about who Archie puts on his staff. It does seem like a stretch to me to say that Bruiser is great at X and Os. As a former coach I think he would be stronger than someone doing this for the first time, but wondering what you have seen to think he is great at this. -

May have to give Avers another chance. Occasionally got one on my from Btown to Indy for a class and it was just OK. Loved the diversity of pizza in town. Mother Bears, pizza express, cafe pizzeria and Garcia's Pizza were my favorites -

Fife was on Davis' Dakich was on Sampson's Cheaney and Easton on Crean's Having an IU guy as an assistant is not necc the way to bridge to our past. The right coach and the right AD are the ways to do that. The right assistants are there to help the coach do his job successfully. -

This is the perspective I think we need on JBj and his defensive capabilities. Certainly not a gimmie and he still has to buy in and give the effort but I too have seen "flashes" of this. Part of the problems we seem to have under Creans D was that our guards doubled down a lot only to then have to chase back out to find their guy now open. Playing chase often. That being said when JBj was not In one of his "flashes" on D he often looked disinterested. This is potentially correctable but JBj will have to pick it up. I do not discount Archie's ability to get more out of him. Lastly keep this in mind, Larry Bird found a way to be on two all NBA defensive teams. -

Honest question, you are suggesting we need an Indiana guy to help the coaches better understand our unique culture. If that is the case why are you suggesting it has not been done over the last 17 years? IF there is an Indiana guy ready I would love to bring them in but just having one on the roster as an assistant is not something new. You mention 17 years later, well Davis, Sampson and Crean had former IU players on staff during that time period. So hiring an Indiana guy, just to have someone to bridge our unique culture has been done. -
What defines IU media? I always thought Crean had a handful of strong relationships in the media and got favorable treatment from them but most were national guys. Wondering what makes up IU Media

Likely but that probably is a result of our success too. Bring in a young guy, maybe former Hoosier, to a non recruiting role and let them be ready once there is an opening. -

Looks like he went from being a player to an assistant coach at Taylor. When was he at a HS? -

I don't know if all teams do it this way but often the assistant coaches are responsible for scouting and developing the game plan for upcoming opponents. These rotate among the assistants so you need to have a staff that has both a knowledge of the game as well as an ability to recruit. -

Cal is probably the connection but Archie was recruited (by Cal) to UMass and he may have been recruited by Flint. -

Interesting article on Bruiser. He attended a practice at IU this year and thought it was amazing. http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/colleges/drexel/20170301_Jensen__Bruiser_Flint_on_his_year_off_from_hoops.html?amphtml=y -
I think Cal may have played HS ball for John Miller and that is why they are close. Anyone know how AZ sos is?

If it were frequent - yeah an issue. In 19 years of coaching he had a bad day in Canada. Now the suggestions that he is hard to work with, maybe I would focus on that. Wichita seems to want to keep him so that seems a counter to that.

Agree, would love to hear what I a missing on this.

After having Crean, who was somewhat quirky, people "think" Marshall is his clone. I have even heard some argue his results are a clone of Creans because he lost early as a #1 seed. He would be a great hire, after BS and BD and someday if he gets a chance at a bigger program may prove to be even better

Why would you want that asked? If FG even pauses a little or looks uncertain at that then that sends an uncertain message. If he says absolutely then later we change our mind you have boxed yourself into another corner. Better to not have to comment on that right now. If we hire a guy like Donovan that hire may be late in the process and we may need bodies the first year. -
I think you have to go with Donovan but culture is important as are academics and avoiding the UK way. This article does not give a complete picture of BDs' program culture but it was something that sounded encouraging. http://floridagators.com/news/2015/1/10/29487.aspx
