I read where one cause of DVT in the leg was a pinching of a vein or artery and that surgery could be done to relieve that. Post surgery if they keep from forming clots then they can participate in non contact activity. I kept looking for when they could return to contact sports but the article bounced over to other causes and things that can be done so I never saw if that was expected or probable. The end of the article talked about support groups for athletes learning to cope with a life changing condition. Seems as if most are assuming we will have Hunter back next year. Has anything been released to suggest that as a possibility? The more I read on what we assume are his conditions the less likely I am to think he will play. Hopefully I have missed something and there is good reason for the optimism with him. I can’t remember if it was you or another poster who was giving out similar praise for Rob last year. When we missed on Garland that poster said we would be very pleased with Rob even in year 1. As good as Morgan is, we suffer when we lean on him to be our #1. Romeo only had a few flashes but he really did not seem comfortable as the #1 either. And yet those were our drivers for the bulk of the year. Do we have a #1 or #2 guy on the roster? I think we have 2 that are more suited to it but struggle for different reasons. Green would love the be the #1 but he can’t seem to be consistent enough and at times does too many questionable things. Plus he does not seem to be an Archie guy. Rob seems more comfortable as a #2 and occasionally as the #1 but his injury really set him back. Those 2 are all we’ve got there. I like that Rob is young and as he develops he can have great games scorning, defending or passing. His future is bright. We need more help here though at the top because even if Green works out he has 1 year left. Could Al move into that role? If it were me, I would have had Al be our primary 3pt shooter this year. Look for that first and foremost. Become our leading outside shooter. Too often, like the others, he wanted to drive. Had he been able to be our best shooter and a real weapon he might have been able to find a role as a top player. Right now he is ok at a lot of things. I would love to see him become great at a few things. Then we need big improvements from the rest of the guys. Race, Jake or Moore. I think he probably needs to go. I really don’t want to even think about him leading another coaching search in football or basketball. If football and or basketball have a sub 500 year next year one or both could be gone. If I am the trustees I want my AD in a year before that happens. I would prefer someone who has had big time success - especially with the big 2. I would love the Chris Reynolds idea but only if he has been killing it with his big 2 sports. Now is the time. I hope the trustees see this and don’t wait. Fred has done a lot of good things at IU for the entire sports program but when the big 2 struggle that does not matter. The time is now. Mine was 34 years ago - that seems impossible for someone so young. I had it good in my stretch. I came in with the Season on the Brink years, got to see a championship in 87 and a FF in 92 (yeah I stayed more than 4 years don’t judge). Was at the game when RMK threw the chair and partied all night at the fountain after the championship in 87. Got to see the Alford years , Jay Edwards sweet shot, and the Calbert, Damon, Henderson and Graham teams. Heck we even had Bill Mallory going to a bowl game about every year. Sounds like we looked at several but once the market value for those players rose above our threshold we backed off. Like last year I expect to see us pick up some more guys we never heard of but who contribute more than we expected. I get being smart with $ but we also need some more playmakers on both sides of the ball. Ballard seems convinced he can find more playmakers in the draft vs overpaying in free agency. We may not need him but with the injuries we had this year we may. I was more curious if he was more likely to be a guy who helps us more in 2-3 years than next year. Timing may not be good but one guy really isn’t a huge miss. It is a numbers thing for me. Get 6-8 out of 10 and you are doing well to really well. You are going to miss some with that approach and I am ok with that when you consider the long game. It may be easier to build a solid base of 3 and 4 year guys first to buy in and set the ground work then later in the high end guys. But overall I understand you can do really well in recruiting and still miss guys like Brooks.
