A 12m buyout + salary of a new coach, that's a lot of money just to take a gamble on Dusty May. So I'd really hope the top guy can be landed.

Dolson seemed to actually take the football hire serious, but he's also the guy that hired Woodson them gave him a raise for winning 1 tournament game in 2 years.

I want to assume they were drunk. The alternative is weapons grade stupidity.

Hiring a guy simply because he played here 40 years ago makes sense, if you're drunk beyond belief.

I'd take Pearl in a heartbeat. If Dolson went to donors for a 12m buyout after just getting a large amount to get rid of Allen then he'd better be looking at a bigger hire than Dusty May. With the state of the program right now Indiana can't afford a "could be here 20 years, could need fired in 4" gamble like May would be.

Thomas was a great player. Bad coach and awful executive. Buckner was a horrible coach.

To be fair they don't have to worry about recruiting HS kids if they can't be bothered to show up.

I don't know that I'd say a lack of bonding; he had success recruiting the state early on with Hulls, Elston, Zeller, Ferrell, etc. More so Crean being Crean he ended up turning them against him.

If Dolson wants to go to donors for another buyout already then he likely needs a splash hire lined up, and if any talks with coaches are going on it's through intermediaries right now. So yeah the plan right now is likely year 4 unless he can hook a big fish, in which case Woodson and staff had better be out recruiting. Just my guess on how things are at the moment. The way IUBB has been run the last 20 years they could be working on an extension.

I fully expect Woodson back and hold some reservations about the rumors of sending out feelers. Right now though the message will be that they plan to bring him back, they'll say that until they have a replacement. If I'm a donor and Dolson came to me for Woodson's buyout after we just paid to send Allen packing then I'm expecting a splash hire, not Dusty May. Granted if I'm a donor and Miller is replaced with a 60+ that's never coached college then I'm already not happy.

Kind of hard to add recruits when you can't be bothered to be on the recruiting trail.
