How much longer until Crean is on the hot seat?
All_Hoosiers replied to wsteele's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Coach Crean and company will continue to recruit top picks. We will get a top team again. Maybe when Yogi is there. Maybe not. Hot seat?? Not for a long time.
I think next year's team could be really really good, and hot seat talk goes away. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
I think this is a list of coaches who would listen if IU called: Gregg Marshall Jim Crews Paul Rhoads Tony Bennett Mark Few Shaka Smart Steve Alford Tommy Amaker Chris Collins Doug McDermott Michael White I'm not saying Crean should go, be on the hot seat, etc. just thought it would be interesting to compile a list.
If it ever got to this, I'd want Indiana to talk to Chris Collins and Gregg Marshall first. I think Indiana goes 1-3 over the next four games. Just don't have a good feeling. Hoosiers could anywhere from 4-0 to 0-4 though. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

It's so easy to fire someone and not think of any consequences. What name out there is an upgrade and would actually come to Indiana? And enough of acting like last season was an abject failure. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Hot seat if the season is bad next year. Gone if we endure a third bad season. Once he's on the hot seat, he's gone quickly. I give him more flexibility because Indiana has been irrelevant in my lifetime. I think last year was a "failure" as well when you look at expectations, but I don't chalk it up as an abject failure like many have done. -

Hot seat shouldn't even come into play unless next year is bad. It's really hard to win championships, and Sweet 16s aren't abject failures like some make them out to be. Why come to Indiana if you'll just be run out of town a year or two after consecutive Sweet 16s? -

I don't think anyone is "satisfied," but to suggest someone be fired just one year after reaching consecutive Sweet 16s, which is no easy task, is insane. To even suggest someone be on the hot seat just one year after reaching consecutive Sweet 16s, is insane. -
Because of the poor non-conf and no road wins up to this point, just. 500 in the Big Ten won't cut it. Hoosiers have to seize opportunities.

Let's see the consecutive bad years happen before we discuss his status on the hot seat. This season isn't the time to do so. -

I bet the fan was asking for it. Marcus Smart shouldn't have done that, but I won't freak out about it. Move on, learn from it. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Hmm, logic says Hoosiers should lose. But this team is illogical. Hoosiers-59 Gophers-53 Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
I wish Indiana would play a top program. I don't care if it's UK, Kansas, or anybody. I'd pass on UCLA though. They don't excite me in the slightest bit, Alford or no Alford. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
Yes, I think the spread of disease has historical consequences, but does not deserve the indictment that is often leveled against early explorers. I find it very doubtful it was intentional. I remember reading a year or two ago that medical researchers have found evidence that while syphilis was present in the "Old" world, Amerinds more than likely passed a far more virulent strain of syphilis to early explorers. Any discovery of an isolated population is very likely to include the transferal of microbes and viruses that will be devastating to that population.
If the early explorers had been perfectly peaceful, they still would have wiped out the native population. Natives were in a lose-lose situation. (2014) PG Jarvis Garrett to URI
All_Hoosiers replied to All_Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
FWIW, a coach of his told me he attacks the rim well, is shooting 50 percent from three, and is really good off the pick and roll. Went as far as to say he'd "start and be a freshman of the year in the A10." Said he had a 42 and 12 performance earlier this year, and rarely has an off day. Adds that more and more major conference schools are checking in on him. One more note: The coach believes that if Garrett was three inches taller, he'd be "a sure fire pro."
That's awesome. We were always taught about how much of a Saint he was. Could've just been lazy teaching and going by the book, but I'm glad that not everyone is taught that. Another funny thing about him; his crew thought he was a complete idiot, and from what I've read, he was within days of mutiny when they finally spotted land. The crew was fully prepared to just kill him and go on their own. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
Yeah, Columbus has never been painted as a saint in my years learning about him. We've always been told he got lucky finding land when he did too. That whole experiment was really close to being a disaster for him. It ended up being a disaster for the natives.
On Columbus, another thing we weren't taught in school is how he and his men came through those islands and ransacked everything they saw. They spread disease like wildfire and ruined entire villages. What a hero, right?! The entire country closes down for a day for a guy who A) didn't find "America" and B ) was more or less a pirate looking to get rich in present day southern Asia. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
Teachers at my high school make sure to point out he didn't "discover" America and he treated the natives terribly. Disease was unavoidable, but he, as well as others, did some pretty awful things to natives. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Halfway Point: Who's Your Final Four?
MSU - Duke - Florida - OSU (Ohio St.) I have a hunch for some reason OSU will get hot at the right time. They were a legit top 3 team with veterans and then kind of went to crap. They are the team I see getting hot and making this a "name" Final Four.
Legit is a stretch.
I will say remembering those tournament games Oladipo was about the only consistent one. Last year was almost perfect. We should have gone all the way. Little white Indiana boy that hit just about whatever he tossed up, big man by the basket, Oladipo with the monster jams (and the 3), good all-around players in Yogi and Watford, the best 6th man in the NCAA, Ellston a great #7 sub... Woulda-coulda-shoulda. Man I miss this time last year.
Elston was far from a "great" #7 sub. Little white Indiana boy was hurt, and I think that hurt the team a lot. Yogi was so bad in March. We could have won it all, but not for one second do I believe we should have. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Victor Oladipo is easily far and away the best player out of that group. However, I think Jordan Hulls would have done wonders helping these kids. His basketball knowledge and leadership, along with three-point shooting and underrated defense, would have helped this team tremendously in my opinion. Halfway Point: Who's Your Final Four?
All_Hoosiers replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Florida, Kansas, Duke, and, if healthy, Michigan State. If healthy, I like MSU to win it all. Florida to win it all if Sparty's still hurt. Added note: For some strange reason, I always seem to pick Wisconsin to make the final four. I resolve not to fall in that trap again this year. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
I was a few months old when we won our last title, and I'm as hard on Crean as anyone. I look at his track record of 15 years, and see that 14 of them ended in mediocrity (at best) and I'm not convinced he can get us back to a Final Four.
I'm not convinced either. He certainly has his faults and deserves criticism. I'm just glad I don't have to support an irrelevant loser anymore, which is why I'm a little easier on Crean than others.
