Bad coach or not, Tom Crean can only do so much with a soft, broken team. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
We can't keep bringing up how he resurrected the program does that give him a free pass? You really isn't much of an excuse anymore 25 games into the season. We should have seen signs of improvement by now right? I haven't seen any improvement from game 1 to game 25 just the same group of guys that turns the ball over 20 times a game with no purpose on offense.
He doesn't get a pass, but to suggest firing just one year after what he's done is absurd. And I don't think it's fair to say the team hasn't improved. It's easy to look good against a Chicago State, but appearance against the Big Ten is different. It's like when people confuse athleticism for "talent." People confuse the team looking amazing against Cupcake U and not so amazing against a top 25 team as "not improving." I'm not saying the team has made leaps and bounds, but you can't sit there and honestly believe they've gotten worse. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I'm not saying you can't criticize Tom Crean. He deserves some and should be criticized. However, I don't think it's right to discuss firing someone just one year removed from the best two-year span in a while. Criticize, but don't talk firing - at least not right now. Yeah, I'm not saying he's the guy I'd want most for IU. I would just personally be fine with trading him for Crean if that was a thing. I'd take many other coaches ahead of Cal.

Anonymity of social media, forums, and what not also fuel extreme views and talks. People have a harder time calling for someone's head or calling them a creepy uncle in person rather than simply typing it.
Sorry I got caught up yesterday. I really don't think that Cal is a great coach either, but he NBA level guys, three and four of which are starters. I will admit that Crean has gotten a few of those, but not at the level UK has. I know they are young, but the problem with that is the way we are recruiting means that we are going to continue to be young, because all these guys are going to bail after a year. Recruiting like this pays off, because the best don't want to spend 4 years in college, but maturity is what helps teams win. I think great coaches can overcome some of those pitfalls, I'm just not seeing that yet.
John Calipari is actually a really good coach, but it gets overlooked because he brings in such good players. You can tell most of his players weren't taught the game very well in high school. They were basically just left alone while they overpowered everyone. Cal is really good at teaching them the game, and you usually can see clear improvement throughout the season. Aside from that, he manages all these high profile kids' egos and is usually successful in doing so. He wins for a reason, and it's not just because he recruits (or pays, whichever you prefer) top notch talent. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I love when people mistake athleticism for "talent." I feel as though we're headed towards being 2013-14 Ohio State. That team is just a more experienced version of us, and I don't want that to be this group of guys' ceiling. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
Personally, I've never been a fan of Crean. I honestly didn't like the hire when we made it and he was our 3rd/ 4th option from what I've been told. He had Dwayne Wade, Got his Final Four and that pretty much sums him up. Given the position we were in, he has turned out to be an INCREDIBLE hire for Indiana. Now that the rebuilding efforts are over, it's time for Indiana to keep winning. We just don't seem to be doing that right now. Therefore, I'm NOT on the Fire Tom Crean train yet because I don't think he deserves to be fired for what he's done at IU. I view Indiana Basketball for what it is... not elite. Hate to say it, but back to back Sweet 16s might not be that low of a bar like we originally thought. It's been 27 years since we've won a championship. This is rambling, and I don't really know where my head is at right now. lol
I agree with all of this. Depending on how next year turns out, I'm not scheduled to board the train until next March or April. I don't think it's right to fire him this year, just one year removed from a second consecutive Sweet 16 (which hasn't been done since the 90s I believe) and a Big Ten regular season title. I never said he would do worse. I'm just going to withhold judgement until he coaches his own players, which he has yet to do.

Just going to throw my thoughts on Vonleh here first before I give more toughts on Crean: Noah Vonleh will not sniff the top five this year, and I highly doubt he goes higher than seven or eight. Also, unlike Cody Zeller, Vonleh's stock will more than likely rise if he returns for a second year. If Vonleh's eventual draft selection is ever lower than Cody's, then the particular draft is either stacked beyond belief like this year or reaffirms how incredibly lucky Zeller got when Jordan decided to pick him at four. I believe Vonleh will stay. Now on to Crean: People had low expectations for the year, and somehow Indiana can't even reach those. At some point, we have to stop using "youth" as a crutch also. Indiana could easily be 13-2, maybe even 14-1, so it's disappointing to look at 10-5. Sure, the players need to be held accountable to some extent, but Crean needs to be held accountable as well (No, he doesn't get a pass for rebuilding the program.) There is no reason why Vonleh shouldn't be taking the most shots on the team. There is no reason why the starting five should be kept intact. There is no reason why four guys should stand around and watch, while Yogi or Vonleh try to do something. The offense is a mess, and that falls on Crean. Has the team even improved? That also falls on Crean. I think he's a good - not great - recruiter, a great motivator, and tremendous man. He's not a great coach, but how many are actually great? I'd give him next year at least, but it's okay to begin questioning him and the future.

Curt Miller is doing a tremendous job with the program. Great to see him and his team having so much success. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I think we need to accept the fact that this team is full of athletes, not talent, and just isn't very good. That's Crean's fault on top of poor in-game coaching. I don't think Crean needs to be fired, and who can IU get that's better? Don't give me Stevens. I doubt he'd give up on the NBA so soon, plus I'd take Boston Celtics job over Indiana. I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that Crean's buyout drops to one million next season.

Tom Crean may be in trouble, and that's not a knock on him. Oh, and I'm definitely not on the "Fire Crean" bandwagon. Who better is available? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Is Coach Mallory Gone Soon?

Wilson must not like job security if he's willing to retain Mallory. Doug's holding Kevin and the Indiana football program back. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Is Coach Mallory Gone Soon?
All_Hoosiers replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I love what Wilson has done with the offense, and I'm one his supporters. That said, there is absolutely no reason why Indiana football should not have been a bowl team this year, especially with eight (!!) home games. But, because Doug Mallory was the defensive coordinator, I'll give CKW another year. If the Hoosiers aren't bowling next year, though, then I'll be ready to part ways with Wilson.
