Last year we ranked 197th nationally in three-point shooting percentage. A two point improvement would have moved us to a tie for 55th. A three point improvement to a tie for 29th. I do love the idea of having an elite D. But outside shooting is the glaring weakness. Without it we struggle to build and maintain leads, which in turn increases the burden on our D. Shooters, yes, please!

Aleksa Gulbe - Casademont Zaragoza (Spain)

I believe most of the top US women play here and in Europe, since the seasons do not overlap. I imagine that's Aleksa's intent.

    2023 General Recruiting Thread (BBall)

Indeed. Having lived near Carmel back in the day and living in Evanston now, I would say that New Trier HS is the closest thing to Carmel, by way of comparisons. New Trier draws students from Wilmette, Winnetka, Glencoe, Kenilworth, etc., which includes #s 1, 2 and 7 on that list. It's also one of the larger schools in the state, much like Carmel, versus Lake Forest which is less than half the size. Not trying to argue...just stating an observation.

Lake Forest is the northern boundry where prices actually start coming back down. Just south of there, in the likes of Winnetka and Glencoe, is where home prices average well over $1M.

I agree. You hire a head coach to run the program, including making decisions about the staff. It's quite possible that Woody felt like he had one hand tied behind is back last year.

(2023) - C Xavier Booker to Michigan State

For the past 20+ years I've read that, one after another, five IUBB coaches quickly fell out of grace with Indiana HS coaches. I'm not convinced it's true. But if it is, at what point would it become noticeable that the 'problems' might be associated with the constant side of the equation?

Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff

Agreed. Drew V. has been excellent. Loyola thankfully got me through the Archie era and I still watch most of their games. It has the feel of a 2000s Butler program at the moment, being able to change coaches and lose valuable pieces without missing a beat. Next year will be a real test though. They'll lose a handful of super-seniors and move to the Atlantic 10. If Valentine has a good year I imagine he'll be a very hot commodity.

I agree with this. The workout videos we see every summer look much more suited to football than basketball. Even if the strength training is not directly impacting shots, my belief is that the time would be much better spent improving basketball skills. We may have the most "fit" team in the conference by the looks test, but we consistently run out of steam, year after year, as seasons progress. And the less fit players who knock us down a notch do so with good shooting. It's not rocket science.

(2022) - PF Kaleb Banks to INDIANA

The insanely impactful success of the pack line defense across all levels of basketball has forced non-IU teams everywhere to chuck the ball up from crazy distances. Even though we've moved on from that defensive philosophy, it's not recommended when on offense that IU try to shoot from such distances. That would require practicing and running plays designed to get open shots. Rumor has it IU used to do that before the turn of the century, for what that's worth.
  10. Completely agree. In the eyes of B1G officiating the smaller guy commits the foul by default, when two posts players get tangled up.

IUBB vs Illinois- 2/5/2022 @ 12:00 on ESPN

Adding on. If you are driving there are four good microbreweries in Evanston. Sketchbook, and Temperance Beer Co are the best known of the bunch but each is a few miles from the arena. Smiley Brothers is more restaurant than bar but close to downtown. A new one called Double Clutch brews German beers and has a mini museum of classic sports cars...it's off on its own in a neighborhood, but just a mile away from the game. Bluestone is walking distance and has a nice bar but typically gets packed early on game days. There are also two new bars close together, downtown, called Tapville and Ridgeville Tavern, but I've not been to either yet.

  13. I sometimes wonder if there are career counselors out there advising HS and college athletes who struggle to commit themselves to anything to go into coaching.

  15. They ran that other commercial about being #1 in the polls during their Rutgers game. I hope they keep going with the campaign. It's awesome entertainment.

I like Galloway off the bench too, but I'd like to see him in the game earlier when the starters struggle to get started (pun intended).

    Indiana at Wisconsin Game Thread

There is something to this, but it has been a long time since IU had an intangible presence on the sideline to influence the refs, to counterbalance crowd induced calls. Woody strikes me as somebody who can do that...at least I hope.
  20. I could see Lander moving ahead of Rob soon. The fact that he flirts with 10 second violations at the start of so many possessions, even when there is no pressure, is a momentum killer IMHO.

    IU Volleyball

I'm torn on this. As you've pointed out they play in an insane conference, with 6 of the top 13 ranked teams nationally. And it's not like this is a one and done sport. Top teams bringing in top recruiting classes every year are very stable...they are not foes that IU can leapfrog with one or two recruiting wins. I'm disappointed too, but I'm not convinced, yet anyway, that moving away from Baird is warranted. I'd personally give it two more years...feels like his last two classes have had higher ranked recruits and I'd like so to see them as upperclassmen.

Looks like it's the collar and Adidas logo. A small break in the collar at the front (versus being rounded), with the logo at the top center just under that break, versus being on the left from shoulder.

(2023) - PG Jeremy Fears to Michigan State

My sarcasm peaks here (aimed at the NCAA). I'd say the answer is absolutely a "no", unless of course the B1G absorbs them as a revenue producing hoops powerhouse, in which case the NCAA will respond by dropping that hammer hard.
