IUBB @ Iowa - Saturday, 01.11.25 @ 8:00 ET on Fox-TV
WeeDerkaNaut replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Throw my prediction out the window because we will get dragged up and down the court playing like this. Speaking of where the sun shines, the team's heads look like they're jammed where it doesn't. -
I agree not many gimme's. Kasparas is the guy's name, averages 16/5/5, so if he's in it's a much closer game. I went and looked at Illinois' losses, in all those games he's well above his averages but his teammates production is severely lacking, which goes back to they rely heavily on him, especially when they're against a team who is strong defensively. So I found Illinois' biggest problem. They can't overcome a good defense even with him hard carrying offensively.
-
I wasn't aware of that thank you. So an off day for sure but losing to USC really hurts them I feel like. But I still think they've been inconsistent this season so maybe they're a bit one dimensional and rely too heavily on said leading scorer? I'd have to dig into the state of each game to figure it out.
-
USC just beat Illinois by ten. Either Illinois just had a really off day or they're not really as good as their ranking suggests which makes that game a bit less of a question mark for us to win. Looking at their games so far this season, they do seem inconsistent. Teamodds gives us a 32% chance to beat them at home but I would guess it's closer to 50/50 with how things are shaping up. Either way it feels like a must win to me. Correct me if I'm wrong.

2024-25 Prediction League - Game 17 at Iowa Sat 1/11/25 8pm FOX

The only result for the season that would make me accepting of a Mike Woodson extension is if we hang the banner. For all the stuff the "King of Indiana" has said and pulled, that's the only result that would make me go, "Yeah he's an a$$ but we won it all." Anything less makes him the Court Jester lol

I kind of agree but MR and Ballo on the court together seems to cause hitches in our play in a few ways on both offense and defense. Woodson clearly runs a big centric play style but having both on the floor together disrupts the rest of the team. It's the Ballo Reneau show and it feels like the rest of the team just kind of fades to let them carry when we need all five being active on the court, as they were today. We say Reneau is not great defensively but that's a lot of the team most of the time especially on the perimeter. Hard to say how much of that is poor defensive coaching and how much of it is the rest of the team mirroring their bigs, which they kind of do in a few ways. Today they were matching Ballo and there was a big difference. It goes back to the big centric style, which means the team is going to play around them. Ballo was wound up and the rest of the team elevated to match it defensively. Rotating Ballo and Reneau would also keep us from being super swingy as far as giving up a lead too, as Reneau is a scorer. His defense leaves a lot to be desired yes but he would at least be putting up points to reduce how much our leads get cut by. MM is going to do what he does and jack threes from the wing or corner. I agree that all three don't need to be on the floor at the same time but the team feeds off of Ballo and Reneau so they do need to be rotated in my opinion. Ballo should start, Reneau should come in off the bench.
-
I agree with that but the question is, is that what is going to actually happen?
-
So anyway, I have no idea how to even predict the game that MR returns. Do we go back to two bigs and suffer or did Woodson learn from today and rotate Ballo and Reneau from now on? Thoughts?
-
He doesn't bother me and I'm a sarcastic a$$, I can handle abrasiveness and I can be a bit of a troll myself. I try to keep my trolling to a minimum on here, but sometimes the smelly hairy thing crawls out from under the bridge on it's own hahaha

"You clowns wanting IU to lose". Said it yourself and I was one of the people that predicted IU to lose. So that includes me lol Edit: Went back and checked, your exact wording was "Half you clowns picked IU to lose in a blowout today." And I reiterate that had Penn State shot their average today, I would have guessed correctly on us getting blown out. A part of my decision making on that was we didn't have MR and we haven't been shooting well at all. Remember we had a 5% from three game not that long ago.
-
This early in the season? No. I'm not picking anyone. Just having fun game by game in the prediction league. This is my first season on this message board so I'm just going with whatever guess I think is the best game to game. Watching every game and using the knowledge of how we've played all season as well as other metrics to guess. And what if I did pick Iowa to win it all? Who cares? You going to call me more names for it? Go ahead, I'll just laugh at you. I've had Drill Sargeants call me much much worse. I don't really care, this season is a wash for me. Do I want IU to win? Absolutely. I based my guess on an average and was pleasantly surprised when I was wrong because our boys won. Do I want Woodson as HC? No, and until we get a public apology for his behavior towards fans(which the King will never do), my stance will not change. As others have said, people wouldn't be nearly as up-in-arms about his tenure if he would have shown some grace and humility.
-
Well whoever scores the most points wins by your own logic. You said it, not me.
-
So my guess in the prediction league was 87 points for Penn State, their avg is 87.9. Guessed 73 for IU, their avg is 79(went lower because of MR injury). Had PSU shot their average we would have lost. Never thought I'd get called a clown for guessing on averages lol

Good thing PSU can't hit free throws or this would be a lot closer. -

1st half was just a tad rough. Seems neither team can hit the ocean from the beach today. -
@IUHoosierJoe @go iu bb Ahh ok that does answer my question thank you.
-
@Hornsby @Pagoda Thank you for the replies. So am I understanding correctly that if the school gets more revenue, players would get a higher share? But I assume as well it's probably not near as much as NIL money with the cap on it. Correct or am I misunderstanding?
