Balas is good but will put stuff out there that isn’t actually true. So he misses on things. It’s a feud between the On3 guys and the Michigan 24/7 crew.
-
If he turns it down does the money stay in the pot to get a different top tier coach? Or does the money available lessen?
-
Which is a problem. If you’re going to fix it then use the same resources to fix it.
-
A&M has oil money and he still has only made the dance twice there. Marquette was also not sad he left when he did.

I think the grumpy Schlick will be tolerated as long as he is winning. As soon as he hits a losing streak he will be arrogant, condescending, and a curmudgeon.

They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Should we soon to retire this thread? -
Nate Oats has a style of play that’s fun and entertaining. I’d take him over any of the slow it down, put me to sleep styles. If we are spending $100ish on Stevens (which I don’t believe) then Oats buyout isn’t an issue. And frankly every coach in the country is on the table with the money being rumored. No reason to settle for anything but a national championship level coach. Cronin? Meh.

Shouldn’t matter. It’s official he is out at the end of the season. The next coach isn’t taking the job until the season is over anyway. Unless it’s someone not currently coaching. Which case they are not going to be stepping in to finish the season regardless. And it shouldn’t make anything awkward for anyone to accept the job. IU is getting what they want and taking the high road in the process. -
May has a decent floor and has high enough potential to have us at the top of the conference regularly.
-
Which is why I don’t think we can hire him. We need a sure bet top end coach.
-
As a Michigan football fan I’m on their boards regularly. I don’t think people fear him leaving because he is in year 1. However the MGoPodcast which should drop Sunday/Monday is going to be a good listen. The guy who owns the website/podcast got the last AD fired and has a lot of connections to get info. So interested in if he says anything.

I understand what you are saying. However with the portal and the NIL IU has at its disposal, we have to get a top end coach who can win a national title. Not that we will get it immediately. But we should be a tournament team next year no matter who our coach is. That’s the first step. Next step we are competing for a Big Ten title which means we have a chance at a final four. Gates to me is a guy who wins enough to not get fired but doesn’t make us a threat annually. And we are adrift for another decade.
-
For me the goal isn’t to be better than what we are now. It’s to be a national title contender year in and year out. That list is very short. I do think May could be that type of coach.

I’m not saying you’re wrong about it imploding. My belief is let it implode. Let it get so bad that there is absolutely no way Mike Woodson ever walks back into Assembly Hall again. Not as coach. Not as former player. Not as a fan. So I’m chill, sitting back and going to watch it implode. Then I’ll be invested in watching every game again once we have a new coach. So let him coach to the end of the season. Let him hear the boos, I don’t mind the boos as they are all professionals. And us true fans can start cheering when we get a true coach running the program. -

I think KathywithaC is correct that he isn’t getting fired mid season, for now. I think a lot of fans are projecting a tire fire because of the games coming up. But they aren’t losses yet. Lose the next 4-5 games and then things might change quickly. But as of now he still has a path to a tournament birth. IU won’t fire a coach on this position. Let Woodson fail on his own terms. No need to rush a firing until it’s good enough for the big boosters. Their money is needed for future recruiting for both football and basketball. -

I think Dolson is playing a smart game here. Let Woody coach, let him fail on his own merits. When we lose 6 in a row, he will lose any leverage he currently has. There is still a path to the tournament, can’t fire him until that path is gone. A beat down by Purdue will get some fired up. I think we end up with 17 or 18 wins. Missing the tournament and then we move on. -
Anyone Still Want to ‘Fire Scott Dolson’?
Asha’man replied to go iu bb's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I don’t care if it’s a name or not but looking at his other hires, I think he is going to value experience. That’s why I don’t have any concerns about an interim finishing the year and being retained as HC. To the previous posters concern about getting it right. That’s the concern every hire. Unless the hire is the right one, the cycle of a 3-4 year turnover will continue. That’s not unique to this cycle. -

More like ran off the court imo. Don’t forget Reneau is coming back so more 2 big lineups are coming. This Maryland game is their best chance at a win over the next stretch of games until UCLA. -

With this staffs inability to build a roster that actually fits together well and capable of winning, let him drink and smoke. Let the next coach do the recruiting. I do think there are some players that could be good under a different system and coach. But I expect some roster turnover this offseason. -

One game isn’t going to matter. I see a 4-8 record the rest of the way. NW, Wash, PSU, and OSU as the 4 wins. That’s not going to be good enough to save him imo. A plan is needed.
