Not sure how you don’t hold him completely blameless. Unless he is ready to retire or quit his job, he had no option once Stevens said no. Even had he quit, the next person would have been forced to hire Woodson. You’re putting blame on a middle man for a decision made by top brass. Would it be your fault if your boss forced a decision on you and refused to listen to your opinion on the matter?

Iowa if they move in from Fran.
-
I believe I’ve seen where he wants out of LA and the NIL isn’t where he would like it to be.
-
Loss in the 1st game. Get him to IU ASAP to rebuild the roster.

I’ll play devils advocate with you. Do we really think Cincinnati is a team that should make the 2nd weekend routinely? I don’t. I remember them getting beat early under multiple coaches. UCLA he made a run but it’s also the NIL era and they do not have the boosters who care enough to bankroll them. So he is at a disadvantage there. You also mention 21 years of experience he is only 53 years old with 21 years of experience that’s someone who has had to grind to make it to the upper echelon. I’m not going to hold it against him that he wasn’t making runs to the final four as a 32 year old. He could also be entering his prime. The last 3 years have seen him make the sweet 16 twice and a Final Four. I’ll weight what he has done at a similar school with lesser NIL than what he did at UC and in his early 30’s. He could raise a banner for IU.

Agree with this take 100%. No reason to get an experienced coach if they have been mediocre. McCollum over Brownell everyday. I’d even take Pitino Jr over Brownell.

The rumors are fun but this is why I said I would believe it when I see it happen, concerning Stevens. Now on to the real search. That’s the benefit of BS saying no so quickly. Michigan is trying to give May more money. Now Dolson can zero in and work a deal with his agent being the top candidate. Michigan has deep pockets, but will they spend what it takes to keep him if IU spends like a top basketball school?

I love hearing the rumors and inside scoop. So keep it coming guys. But I’m with you, I will not get excited about IU basketball until there is an official announcement.

I said at the end of last season to let him go and spend the NIL elsewhere. He is a good player but not for this team. -

I started on HoosierNation scout board as IUFan81. That place was great and was sad to see it go. Migrated over the years between the different HSN’s, 24/7, and here. My original username here was Feathery. Forgot my password and the site wouldn’t let me reset it. So I created a new account. Never met anyone on here but am FB friends with some redhead named @JaybobHoosier -
Balas is good but will put stuff out there that isn’t actually true. So he misses on things. It’s a feud between the On3 guys and the Michigan 24/7 crew.
-
If he turns it down does the money stay in the pot to get a different top tier coach? Or does the money available lessen?
-
Which is a problem. If you’re going to fix it then use the same resources to fix it.
-
A&M has oil money and he still has only made the dance twice there. Marquette was also not sad he left when he did.

I think the grumpy Schlick will be tolerated as long as he is winning. As soon as he hits a losing streak he will be arrogant, condescending, and a curmudgeon.

They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
Asha’man replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Should we soon to retire this thread? -
Nate Oats has a style of play that’s fun and entertaining. I’d take him over any of the slow it down, put me to sleep styles. If we are spending $100ish on Stevens (which I don’t believe) then Oats buyout isn’t an issue. And frankly every coach in the country is on the table with the money being rumored. No reason to settle for anything but a national championship level coach. Cronin? Meh.

They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
Asha’man replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Shouldn’t matter. It’s official he is out at the end of the season. The next coach isn’t taking the job until the season is over anyway. Unless it’s someone not currently coaching. Which case they are not going to be stepping in to finish the season regardless. And it shouldn’t make anything awkward for anyone to accept the job. IU is getting what they want and taking the high road in the process. -
May has a decent floor and has high enough potential to have us at the top of the conference regularly.
-
Which is why I don’t think we can hire him. We need a sure bet top end coach.
-
As a Michigan football fan I’m on their boards regularly. I don’t think people fear him leaving because he is in year 1. However the MGoPodcast which should drop Sunday/Monday is going to be a good listen. The guy who owns the website/podcast got the last AD fired and has a lot of connections to get info. So interested in if he says anything.

I understand what you are saying. However with the portal and the NIL IU has at its disposal, we have to get a top end coach who can win a national title. Not that we will get it immediately. But we should be a tournament team next year no matter who our coach is. That’s the first step. Next step we are competing for a Big Ten title which means we have a chance at a final four. Gates to me is a guy who wins enough to not get fired but doesn’t make us a threat annually. And we are adrift for another decade.
