Fire Coach Woodson Thread
RoncalliHoosier replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Whose needle was not moved? Are you talking about the BoT's needle or Dusty's? Honest question, as someone posted many pages ago that Dusty may not be as interested in IU as we want to think. Food for thought. -

RoncalliHoosier replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
My response is not about Dusty, per se, but this whole thing is a real head scratcher. Can somebody help me understand the thought process? It would appear that this is all about making Woodson feel good about himself and not hurting his feelings. If Woodson has, at most, one year, and he currently has zero recruits and he's hoping to rent a team for 2024-25 via the transfer portal, WHY? Why put the program and the fanbase through this BS? The odds are tremendously against success, and even if he were to be successful, they will burn that down to hire whatever coach they can get next year. And in the meantime, we're spending $4.5M on a lame duck coach, and untold millions of the Cooks and Simons money to rent the players. It just makes ZERO sense. I don't think that it's naiveté on the part of the administration. I don't think that anyone truly believes Woodson will be able to pull it off. And even on the outside chance that it's even remotely successful, what have we gained, aside from letting our next coach end up at another school and therefore out of reach? It's just more of the ridiculous stupidity that we've seen and had to endure as fans for the past 25 years. Just. Make. It. Stop. -

Well, since they said "no" we can rule out Zeke and Wittman. :D (Only half joking - you never know with Buckner) -

Point one is mostly true because no one gave Woodson a team of 5-star athletes. He cannot win (or even compete) with "regular" recruits. For the 23-24 season, Woodson had THREE 5-star athletes, and more total combined stars than any other team in the B1G and he managed to finish 10-10 in the league. "Underachieving" is an understatement. And this was mostly due to poor roster construction - no guards of shooters on this team. Point two is pretty damning evidence of his ongoing miscalculations. True, the Cooks and the Simons have basically given Woodson their open checkbooks to rent talent for next year. But every possible portal recruit will weigh Indiana against other suitors - both in terms of NIL money and playing for the coach (within said coach's system). I expect Woodson to have a tremendous uphill battle landing them based on his history of coaching success at Indiana. Buckle up, guys. It's going to be a long, hard 12 months. -

This would be true if Indiana hadn't systematically lowered the standards for the past 25 years. But the Mike Woodson Experience was a failure from Day One. And yes, this whole cluster**** is on Buckner and the BoT for foisting it on us and Dolson and the school administration for allowing it to happen. -

Do you think they would decommit if IU changed coaches from Woodson to Pearl? To Dusty? To Otzelberger? There's a good chance they stay. The issue that I see is Woodson getting near them with a 10-foot pole. But I agree that keeping Woodson with the scenario that @JerryYeagley23 reported means that we have at least TWO years of dumpster fire to look forward to. What is Woodson's inducement to not leave the 2025-26 cupboard completely empty? He hasn't done squat recruiting for 2024-25 and he will most likely be coaching. Why would he even bother with 2025-26 for someone else? -

Just gotta run into him in a semi-public setting and ask "Hey, what's up Woodson?" -

Thanks for sharing. Do you have the sense that if Woodson fails to build a competitive team via the portal (gaping holes like this year) they could end him early? Given the tons of the Scotts and Cook's money, it might actually happen, but just curious. I have some real concerns about what players would be willing to come play in his "system", so could that still end with him being dismissed? -

Can we just put Woodson in the portal and take our chances that someone snags him? -

That seems somewhat anti-competitive. I cannot imagine that it would withstand a court challenge. Fire Mile Woodson. -

Woodson is an embarrassment with or without a pre-emptive decline to an NIT invitation. -

Wait, are you saying that if we had fired Woodson we would have won the B1G?

In the case of Galloway and Leal, it's NILM (Name, Image, Likeness and Mouth). Pay for play and pay for say. -

There is nothing the donors can do to improve his actual coaching or to change his style of play. They can prop him up and buy him players, but ultimately, he will still drive the bus off the cliff. As fans, we are trapped in the seventh level of hell. -

Only the top 15 teams in the B1G standings will play in the B1G tournament. Not sarcasm. Not a joke. https://www.sportstravelmagazine.com/big-ten-conference-to-alter-basketball-tournaments-in-2024-2025/ -

Does Malik do that? Or do they just get paid now for being on the team? The way the NCAA implemented NIL will be its death. It's completely out of control, and there's no walking it back. -

That was my absolute first thought when I saw the score. Seriously, in Woodson's mind, it says "It ain't me". Yeah, Mike, it IS you. -
