    They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

If he wants to continue to show his @$$, let him. He's the only one who suffers in the long run. IU will proceed professionally and hopefully make a great decision on the next coach. Mike Woodson's tenure at IU as a thorn in the sides of fans will be forgotten quickly with any amount of success. We all feel that Mike Woodson is acting unprofessionally and with retribution in mind, and no one supports someone acting like that. None of us or the leadership at Indiana should be acting in a manner like that, either. Let MW make his own bed. Even if it's not until the end of the season, he's still the one who has to lie in it.

Yes, it should apply to him as well. If he decided to be unprofessional, that is on him and reflects on him. No one else has to respond in kind.

Revenge and retribution has no place in a professional setting.

I didn't say his removal was about race. I said I believe he is receiving racist messages.

Yep that was my point. It still doesn't make it right, and we should all still condemn it. Receiving those messages, as non-threatening as they may actually turn out to be, is not something anyone deserves. Call him a terrible basketball coach, call him lazy, call him old, call him aloof, but yes I have personally heard people say that Indiana U needs to stop hiring n-word coaches, and a simple search on x can find others.

Let him "control the narrative" in this way. Ultimately, it's a short term PR issue that fades away by the start of next season at the latest. It does no lasting damage to the university or program. He's out at the end of the season, and then he can go do and say whatever he wants, but he will fade into relative obscurity, and his coaching career at Indiana will be remembered for the record and results, not the way he went out. The leadership and decision makers at IU just need to stay professional and on course. Mike Woodson failed with on the court results in black and white, that will speak for itself. I do have some small defense for Woodson that I believe he is receiving racist and threatening messages. Unfortunately, we do have that dark corner of our fanbase, like many other fanbases. However, there is no credible threat IMO, just really bad people able to talk nonsense digitally without the threat of being punched in the face for being shity racists.

Chris007, I hold you personally responsible for lack of official confirmation right now. I just sent my boss your contact info as the reason for my lack of productivity today. You can expect a strongly worded email incoming.

This isn't a court of law, though. I agree innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This is also a PR and values issue for a University that is over 50% female. The message sent is that winning basketball games is more important than women being safe.

I believe that the University of Texas investigated and fired him with cause. At the time he was having a lot of success, too.

It would make it very hard, harder than you supporting this current team and coach. I know my wife would be out 100%.

I don't know man, being staunchly against domestic violence doesn't really feel like being self-righteous. Maybe he didn't do it, the police report and opinions of the officers are pretty damning, but someone else can take the chance on Beard. I'd rather find someone else, even if they don't win as many basketball games.

Cashy talks down to everyone, that's why she's not popular here. Plenty of people have posted similar things to her with a much more casual but respectful tone. She/he is not the only person with possible inside information that can talk in extremely general terms to sound correct.

Well Tom Izzo and Coach K would disagree, they pushed fast break opportunities as a large part of their offense. They also had great half court offense, but getting fast break opportunities was paramount to both coaches. They've had some tourney success. All of those guys know a lot more basketball than me though.

Archie was a very popular hire within Indiana and around the country. Results were pretty ****, but the hire was very popular. Even Bob Knight liked the hire. Bob Knight praised Archie Miller, the head coach of Indiana University's men's basketball team, by saying, "This kid (Miller) is going to do a good job". Knight also said, "You folks are going to appreciate him, but it ain't gonna happen in a year

There are some people here who either support domestic violence or find it socially acceptable at the very least as long as basketball games are won. I'm all for second chances, but not further risking the already shaky moral reputation of the athletic department representing the largest and flagship public institution of learning in the state. There are more coaches out there than Chris Beard who can win big at Indiana and will take the job without increasing risk for another embarrassing termination.

You can add Mike Davis failed at mid-major UAB before turning things around at a low major, Texas Southern, and then failed again at Detroit Mercy. Only Kelvin Sampson has won at a high level post-IU, and he's the only one that didn't get fired for losing too many games.

It's also on those individuals, not the fanbase.

I believe there is a small subsection of the fanbase that is taking it too far. I believe a meeting like that is probably necessary. However, I have some doubt whether the meeting was to address the actual, serious issue in whole or to deflect some blame of failure to the fanbase. I have no inside knowledge here, just vibes as the kids say.

What kind of resume would that be? If you are comparing bubble teams, how many make it in without any real good wins.
