    They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

While I was quoting your post, the a-hole comment was to the collective you, not you specifically.

    They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

This thread started on February 3rd. Nothing has happened in all this time, nothing has changed. Yet the poor attempts at “hump” jokes incessantly continue. The insulting memes continue. The tearing down the character of the guy continues. Yes, it’s incessant, and no, it’s not necessary. This thread is now almost 390 pages. I would imagine that if all the redundant comments were consolidated, it would be about 40. You can express your opinion on the coach without being an a-hole. Or you can continue doing what this thread has become and basically be the UK fan base.

Not defending Woodson at all if you had bothered to read my posts. Embarrassed by the incessant, unnecessary piling on. Yes, since I work with HNW folks every day, I know exactly what it takes to be a successful executive. Pretty sure being on a basketball forum isn’t one of the traits that makes a person climb the corporate ladder.

Congratulations! You won the internet today for being the example for all of what a dream retirement looks like… sitting in front of a basketball forum all day

Inn… nope. It comes with a society who now believes it’s acceptable, actually encouraged to make comments on social media and forums like these without fear of repercussions. This thread is a prime example of how things just snowball and embolden people to believe it is their right to be as disrespectful as they want. Makes them say or do things they never would if they knew they could be held accountable. As far as questioning someone’s work ethic… I just have to laugh. This thread is now nearly 400 pages, with many comments made during working hours. I wonder how many on here who are posting regularly and/or following the conversation closely have actually “showed up to do their job.?”

This could have been a guy reading this thread and summarizing it. Pretty much verbatim the tone of this conversation. Doesn’t move the needle, imo.

I agree completely. However, if you are trying to save your job, cutting corners becomes a necessity

If you need to wonder whether BP is a good man or not, find the feature that was just shown on CBS News tonight about how he basically saved a kid with cancer by his inspiration and prayers. Completely changes any negativity that could be brought up about Pearl.

If #2 is true, he’d be doing a disservice to whoever the next coach is. And how exactly would he position his recruiting pitch? “ I’m not sure who the next coach will be, or if you’d fit in, but come to IU and hopefully it works out for you.” If #3 is true, I thought the goal was to win games. That should be his objective. Everything else would have to work itself out. And there’s no reason he couldn’t get some guys with more than 1 year of eligibility if he needs to address the continuity issue. As I’ve said, I’m not sure where I stand regarding CMW’s future. But I am willing to let the rest of this season play out before sounding the death knell. Lots of folks throwing the f* word around and not willing to be patient and let the process play out. * fire

    1. I don't have any information, nor am I 100% on either side of this debate. Not sure I want CMW back, not sure I don't. 2. It may well be that he knows already that he's gone. Why would he be out recruiting for another coach? That coach is going to want guys who fit into his culture and style of play. 3. It may well be that he knows he only has one more year to turn this around, and feels he can't worry about developing guys that won't help him get it done next year. Consequently, his focus is solely on the portal. 4. Regardless of what happens, I see no reason for the constant belittling and denigration of him. This board, this fanbase can want him gone without having to mock and disparage. Regardless of what he says or does or doesn't say or doesn't do, either we watch things unfold with class, or we don't. Totally up to each individual how they want to act during this period of unknown. This doesn't have to turn the board into a poopshow.

Running is a big part that led to my knee replacement. I was getting up at 4:30 to run 3-4 times a week. Loved the peacefulness of it. The pounding did me in as well...along with being a catcher in baseball and a lineman in football. I tried riding my bike once that early. Had all the lights and reflectors. Wasn't so worried about things on the road. More concerned with what was lurking off the road. Couldn't relax to enjoy the ride. I ride now during the day, but since I am still working, don't have the time to put in nearly the miles that you guys do.

The bottom line is that he wasn’t ready for the fish bowl that is the head coach of IUMBB.

Guess I did. I will soon be 67 and had a total knee replacement. If you ever watch the Winter Olympics, I am a curler. Flexing my knee to the max. Old is only a state of mind

So, the guy that was just hired as the new football coach is 62. Generalize much?

Not the point and not sure what I want. Yet tbd. You tend to make statements/claims without much evidence to back them up.

In the current AP top 25 ranking there are two P6 teams that you could say have been turned around quickly. S. Carolina and Washington St. The bar for both is awful low, no pressure. WSU plays in a worse and disintegrating conference. Props to the coach at USC, but there’s not a lot of proof to back your claims.

Your opinion. The portal and NIL have not been around for 4 years so you have nothing to back up your claim.

So, I looked at the 4th year records of a mix of coaches. All-timers. Recent tournament winners. And for giggles, Bruce Pearl. A few one the number of games. Didn’t take the time to look at the other criteria. Not many who even made the 25 win benchmark. All of these are at their last, most prominent positions. John Wooden 19-12 Dean Smith 15-9 Coach K. 24-10 Roy Williams. 21-7 Bill Self. 33-5 Jim Boeheim. 26-4 Scott Drew. 15-16 Tom Izzo. 33-5 John Thompson. 21-7 John Bielein 21-14 Jay Wright. 24-8 Dan Hurley. 23-10 Lute Olson. 18-12 Mark Few. 24-9 Bruce Pearl. UT. 21-13. Auburn 26-8 John Calipari 21-12 Denny Crum 28-3, but almost needs to be an asterisk because Louisville was in the Missouri Valley Conference So, counting Pearl at Auburn, only 5 guys won 25 games in their 4th year. Add RMK and you have 6. Sure there are more but just trying to remember the more prominent names. The criteria is too exclusive that Hornsby is expecting

Umm… Year in and year out Duke and UNC are as good as/better than anyone in the B1G. Miami whipped our butts last year. Bennett usually has UVA playing well. And have to believe that it won’t be long before Syracuse and Louisville are back to prominence. Add to that the fact that Shrews is coaching at a football first school with extremely high academic standards… yeah, I could see him moving for the right opportunity

    They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

In the history of IU basketball the only coach that meets your criteria is RMK. Crean had the wins and S16, but finished 5th in conference. Your standards aren’t realistic for the history of the program.

Again, agree to a point. I am not here to say that X is a perfect leader. That he ticks all the boxes we'd like to see ticked. However I don't think the other guys on the floor care much about what happened with the driving issue. Probably not even the flagrant fouls other than they put the team farther behind in the specific games they occurred in. I think they do care that he is more skilled than Cupps, more physically mature than Cupps. Can get to the rim on his own. I think that a certain part of the fanbase has put much more emphasis on the character issues X has displayed than his teammates do.

Main ball handler is supposed to be the guy that gets his teammates in the proper position, directing traffic so to speak. That is a form of leadership.

Agree....to a point. When you have to replace the main ball handler with an overmatched freshman, leader or not there is going to be growing pains.
