They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
steubenhoosier replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Really don’t care about how he acts. Not sure why it bothers some of you guys. Doesn’t affect you. Can’t do anything about it. If his actions have materially impacted your life, please share how -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
steubenhoosier replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah, I'm one of those old guys, but I do understand statistics. He left one out though. You know, that one where 1.2% of all college players get drafted to the NBA. And the statistic for those that last 14 years in the league has to be infinitesimally smaller than that. It's not your fault if you've never been at the top of a career ladder for an extended period of time. -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Yeah, I don’t get the comments about his playing career. Criticize away about his coaching, but you don’t last as many years in the NBA and have a career avg. in double digits without being a good player. What’s the percentage of players who even make it to the league? -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Last time I will post in this thread. Said it before, some folks are holding on to stuff because they want to be butthurt. No one here was personally affected by anything CMW has said or done. No one had their reputation ruined. No one had their careers affected. No one lost money over his actions. So what, he said some things or acted some way that some people don’t care for. You and I are not paying his salary, we have nothing invested in him other than the emotional value we place on our fandom. It’s almost like it’s easier to just keep repeating the same thing rather than saying that, at least for this next year, Woodson is the coach. All for this season being make or break for CMW and his staff. With the money that has been devoted to the program, there can be no excuses for less than a stellar season. But regardless of the outcome, my life won’t change and I will not be tethered to the comments, perceived slights, or whatever is communicated by Woodson or his staff -
One of the stars of the’67 Rose Bowl team. All-American and IU football HOF

Guess Deshaun Thomas making 1st team All-B1G and 2nd team All-American or Caleb Swanigan being 1st team All- American and B1G POY don't constitute being a "high level college player."
-
I can understand Huber from a fundraising standpoint. But when it's pointed out all the talent in the area, and yet one kid has committed to IU from that neck of the woods in the recent past, I don't buy it as a recruiting gem.
-
And it's not just NE Indiana that is ignored, it's the entire northern part of the state. RMK use to get lots of guys from around South Bend and "The Region". Abernathy, Laskowski, even Dakich. We have gotten one in the last 15 years or so-- the kid from South Bend that was supposed to be a great shooter, and turned out not to be so much. Basically, anything Marion and north is being ignored.
-
That's great...plenty of deep pockets up here as well.
-
As I said, there have been many other opinions here that think he would have been a great solution to the need for another big.
-
None of whom are on our roster, and we are now trying to fill that hole with guys who have not played against nearly the competition Furst has.
-
Don't care if they hold events at Hubers or not. Hopefully, the esthetics of the drive is not a major reason for doing events there. If they want to spend much money there with little return, that's their perogative. They will never have a chance at the talent that is produced up here without developing a presence. They could have had Furst, had Archie not ignored him. By many opinions on here, he would have been a solution to the backup 4-5 role we are currently trying to fill.
-
Nope...and none of those towns have nearly the population of the metro FW area. Romeo is the only kid of the recent past that has come to IU. How much has been spent/wasted in the past 10 years with only one guy to show for it? Listen, I get it. There's always been a definite slant to these boards from Indianapolis on south. I would venture to guess that the majority of posters are from those geographic regions. My whole point has been that the program continues to do itself a disservice by ignoring northern Indiana. The appearance is that they are essentially conceding that they can't compete with Purdue for recruits up here, and that is sickening to me.
-
Yet, every year there is an event at Huber Winery, which according to the map is surrounded by a bunch of podunk towns that we've never drawn recruits from, and Louisville which we don't recruit from.
-
It’s not for whatever reason, and that’s my point. It’s because they don’t put any effort into the area. Painter does. Painter is visible. When Furst’s coach at Blackhawk coached his last game due to cancer, Painter was there. He’s been to multiple events in FW over multiple years. I can’t remember the last time an IU coach made an appearance here.

Deshaun Thomas to OSU Malik Williams to Louisville Nic Moore from Warsaw to SMU Essegian Charlie Wills Chris Kramer, Grady Eifert, Raphael Davis, Loyer, Furst, Swanigan all to Purdue...others going back a ways. Not all Dwenger kids go to ND if offered. Most recent being Joe Tippman who was drafted last year by the Jets and went to Wisconsin. Jessie Bates is another prime example of a football kid who was ignored by IU

The gala is not the point. There is never a presence up in this neck of the woods for any events. The FW Alumni Club used to have a golf outing that some coaches would attend, but never from the MBB or Football programs. Knight used to golf the Mad Anthony's charity golf event, but that was 20 years ago. No effort in trying to nurture relationships here. Meanwhile things like the winery event happen every year. Shame that the program puts little value on the talent that comes from the area. Enough high Div 1 talent here to make it worth at least trying.
-
Meanwhile, Painter appeared at the Fort Wayne Boys and Girls Club annual gala. No IU presence at all. Interviewed by local media and commented on the development of Loyer and Furst. Is it any wonder why IU has little success recruiting guys from this area?

Wonder if he would go to a place where his dad is revered?

Transfer Portal w IU Interest
steubenhoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Hatton has nowhere near the upside of our recent bigs, but if there is one thing this staff has shown the last 3 years, it's that they know how to improve a big guy's attributes. I would expect Hatton to show some improvement if he comes to IU, under the tutelage of this coaching staff. -

I think Cody just put his head down and tried to bull through the middle of the zone again

The Basketball Tournament 2024 - Assembly Ball

I can’t believe that professional contracts don’t have a stipulation that guys can’t play in events like this. Teams paying out millions should be smart enough to nix exposing players to senseless injury -
(2023) - PG Gabe Cupps to INDIANA
steubenhoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
So, the off season has devolved from tearing apart the coaching staff to tearing apart a guy who has shown nothing but loyalty to the program -
Maybe Crean could have hired someone to help him figure out a zone defense.
