Can’t remember which of the knuckleheads it was. When Dakich was named coach he called out the guys for skipping class, smoking and whoring. Whoever it was didn’t like being held responsible and he picked up a flower pot and threw it at DD Doing a Google search, it was Eli Holman

Yep… and if you don’t like what the guy who is holding you accountable says, just throw a flower pot at his head

One of the saddest things about this whole situation is that Don Fischer has to put up a brave face and support the team. He’s 77 and has devoted 2/3rds of his life to IU.Definitely deserves better

Fair question. Recruiting/portal windows? Are there still academic requirements?

Not talking about now. Sampson’s guys were doing a lot worse than what has happened recently. He brought in a bunch of guys with really sketchy backgrounds. There was a huge chasm between DJ , Gordon and the other guys

At IU he had a bunch of guys who partied hard as hell

Yet there has been a lot of talk in this thread about “culture “. Sampson pissed on the IU culture

Last thing I want to hear is that Woodson’s health is the word.

Don’t understand why folks would want a guy like Sampson or Wade. I get that what they did “then” is legal now. But if a guy was willing to break the rules that were in place at the time, wonder if he’d break the rules that exist now?

There is no rational reason to let Woodson keep coaching. The damage from the visual of fans either not showing up or leaving…The damage from hearing the fire Woodson chants… the damage of the visual of a coach who shows no energy or emotion to lead the team… the damage of the visual of a team who knows the coach is gone, and plays like it… All of this played out by the national media. All would have a much larger and worse impact on the program than if administration would just rip the bandage off, take the short term criticism of the Wilborns of the world, and move forward. Winning games the rest of this season is secondary to reestablishing the pride and status of what IU basketball used to be

Love ya for this. Not sure why it was necessary, but if it makes you happy?

Steve Fischer won a national championship after Michigan let Frieder go. Even the guy last year at Ohio St. did a very good job.

Firing Woodson is neither a long term or beneficial decision. It's getting the cancer out as soon as possible so the healing can begin. The season is over, for all practical purposes.

If May is out of the picture I would throw the Brinks truck at Otzelberger. Played and coached in Wisconsin. Has to know the B1G . Better conference. Better facilities. Better NIL. Next might be Jan’s, who coaches at a football school. If it’s a couple of years before Woodson is gone, I would keep an eye on Jerrod Calhoun from Utah State. Coached at Youngstown State so knows the Midwest. And bonus, we’d be able to resurrect “Calhoun’s health is the word.”

Probably some of both. Put a lot of trust in a freshman who had not played pg at that level. As time wore on he developed plays for JHS to create opportunities for him to shoot or dish to TJD. He also pulled Race out away from the basket to give Schifino more space

He has done a good job on out of bounds plays. He’s always developed plays to get his bigs in position to score. He gave JHS the freedom to and the opportunity to take advantage of mismatches. Again, overall scheme is wrong.

Haven’t been here for a minute (thanks Stuhoo!) Not gonna be the guy accused of not showing up. Read most of this thread and agree with whoever said that there’s a lot of regurgitation of the same ol’ same ol’. Here’s my opinion. Blast away if you feel the need. Woodson’s overall philosophy on offense is wrong and has been shown to be so over the last few games. However he is a decent X’s and O’s coach. He has also shown that he can develop big guys. He has failed to develop a sense of toughness with his teams, and for that reason we will continue to wilt and get run over by quality teams. His seemingly unwillingness to discipline guys has created an environment where the inmates are running the asylum. This may in part be due to the dynamics college sports are in now. Where the players have been given so much leverage with NIL money and the revolving door that is the portal. I think Woodson doesn’t realize, or doesn’t care that regardless of how much money these guys are making, they are still a bunch of young guys who are going to do immature things, are going to be incredibly inconsistent, and who need a firm, guiding hand… and repercussions when they screw up. If Woodson can’t do this, or doesn’t believe it’s his job to do so, then there needs to be that guy or guys on the team who will… who will get in guys’ faces when needed. Who won’t back down when we get punched in the face, but will punch back. All of our quality teams had that guy. For as much criticism he gets here, deservedly so, Quinn Buckner was that guy. Jim Thomas was that guy. Kitchell, Hillman, Mike Lewis, Chris Reynolds, Fife… all were that guy. Sheehey was probably the last guy who was that guy. Sorry for the length of this. Had some time to think about stuff. Won’t demean Woodson but he and the product on the floor are an embarrassment. Please get past yourself CMW and do what’s in the best interest of the university you proclaim to love.
