He was impressive in their tournament loss to Washington St, small for a 2 guard though. Have to think West Virginia is the early favorite.

They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

My (uninformed) pulse on the situation is that I don’t feel Dolson believed he had the support or resources to make a splash hire this offseason. You fire a player legend in Woodson who has made the tournament in 2/3 seasons and replace him with a flavor of the month hire (say Dusty May in this instance) who completely bombs, your legacy is tarnished forever. Not saying any of this is true or correct, just what I personally believe. -

So reading the interwebs the last hour, seems the consensus from U of L fans is that they dodged a bullet and the few talking heads I follow from Michigan feel pretty underwhelmed with the hire. That’s a pretty stark contrast from the consensus on here and other IU related sites. -

If they truly had $6million to begin with I would guess a lot. -
I think 5 of their top 7 players have a Covid year. Goldin, Martin, and Davis could all play at this level I would think.

Yes. Owned several hundred Wendy’s and Chili’s as part of his food conglomerate. His company was also the bottler for Coca-Cola. Worth more than half a billion. -

Junior Bridgeman told Louisville he would pay Scott Drew’s entire salary if they could land him. Guess Bridgeman and Homer Drew go way back to their northern Indiana days. -

It’s definitely Junior Bridgeman. I believe I read he’s the 3rd wealthiest retired NBA player behind Jordan and Magic. Pretty crazy to think about considering Bridgeman likely never made close to a million dollars in a single season. -

Interesting that he only got a 5 year deal. He’s going to have to win and win quick. -

Happy for Dusty but he’s going to need to bring most of his core from FAU to gain some momentum early. Wonder if he’ll have issues getting some of those guys admitted? -
Guard the perimeter better and the need for rim protection (which is code for bad defense) becomes less and less relevant. We had elite rim protection this last season and still had terrible defensive metrics because we had so many players guarding outside their natural positions.
-
But come to think of it, if that is the route IU does indeed go, both your 1 and 2 guards need to be high volume/high make 3 point shooters or you run the risk of teams packing the lane again all year. If you want to play like Purdue you need to have shooters like Purdue. Blackmon fits that bill.
-
Can’t risk losing money AND my mind lol
-
We’re doing it wrong if that is the plan. Galloway should NEVER be the lead guard in any offense ever. Transfer PG Transfer 2 G (Blackmon) Galloway MM Reneau And if we’re dead set on playing two 5’s next year and playing MM on the wing then there’s no way you can start Galloway.
-
No 2 guard should be taking only 6 shots a game at any level of basketball.
-
yes he’s not likely to replicate what he did at Stetson at the P5 level on the same volume. Still think he can be an efficient 3 point shooter on volume. Something IU hasn’t had since his brother played here.
-
No clue, I wouldn’t imagine he’d draw the toughest assignment on defense. Purdue has made it work with Loyer who is a black hole defensively. Would be interesting to see Blackmon on the floor when he isn’t the opposing teams 1st, 2nd, and 3rd priority. Worst case he’s a shooter that spaces the floor but he was better than any single guard on this last years team.
-
That’s BS. Blackmon against P5 opponents prior to yesterday: Houston #1 KenPom D: 4/13 3/7 from 3 11 points—guarded by Jamal Shead the best on-ball defender in college basketball UCF #17 KenPom D: 7/13 6/9 from 3 26 points in a game Stetson won Cincinnati #15 KenPom D: 10/22 5/12 from 3 32 points Dude can play. UConn is on a different level than any other team in the country and wasn’t going to let Blackmon get going.

FAU had 2 fouls to give last possession of regulation…
-
Still trying to figure out what FAU does on offense. This is painful basketball on both ends.

Wonder how Walker potentially impacts Cupps? I can't fathom IU would be bringing in Walker to start from day 1 and I'm not so sure you can play Walker (or Cupps) off the ball as part of your second unit. I think at this stage Walker is probably the better bet is as your 2nd PG, wondering if this would push out Cupps?
