Where the hell are you getting 215th ranked offense? They were 105th in KenPom efficiency. Carlyle and Rice shooting 35% on 5-6 3 point attempts along with Mgbako shooting his same % on a slightly higher volume than he did in the B10 last season is easily a top 15 KenPom offense next year once you factor in Ballo and Reneau’s efficiency at the rim.

The 400 additional shots isn’t a hard number to overcome, gone are: Ware’s 11 shots Galloway’s 9 shots will significantly decrease with a new role. 9 to 5/6 seems appropriate Gone are Xavier Johnson’s 6 shots Gone are CJ Gunn’s 4 shots Cupps dips from 4 to 2. That’s 28 additional shots a game that just became available. Ballo 7-8 shots, Carlyle and Rice 10 shots, with 5 to 6 being from the perimeter. That’s not including a spike from Mgbako + Tucker and whatever 4/5 the staff brings in on

400 extra possessions equates to roughly 11 more possessions a game over the course of a 35 game season. Playing at a slightly faster tempo with dynamic guards + Ballo’s offensive rebounding potency doesn’t make this nearly as far fetched as you want to make it out to be. And that’s using the absolute high end scenario I ascribed.

Also you understand that between Galloway, Cupps, Johnson, Leal, and Gunn, the 5 of them combined went 77/238 for 32% last year. You get that correct? Asking how the offense will improve with two guys shooting 35% from 3 on volume before even taking into consideration production from Mgbako, Reneau, and Ballo is legit asinine.

Carlyle and Rice not going to make a shot inside the arc or at the free throw line next year lol?

Jesus dude, it’s about volume. Quit looking at raw percentages. Assuming Carlyle and Rice are healthy and play the entire season, 1.5-2 makes a game at around 35% for each is ~55-70 made 3’s per player. Xavier Johnson and CJ Gunn COMBINED made 28 3 pointers last year. Did you seriously think you were clever posting this as some kind of gotcha?

Not relying on Trey Galloway to be your lead guard for 35 games on top of Gabe Cupps being asked to run the show for 75% of the conference season should go a long way. Rice/Carlyle/Mgbako is a significantly better trio than JHS/Galloway/Kopp and Reneau/Ballo is a better front court than Thompson/Ballo, at least offensively.

Unless Rice/Carlyle develop some kind of hitch in their shot and/or just completely forget how to shoot a basketball and lose all confidence, both will be more than adequate perimeter shooters next year. Will they hit at the magical 40 number next year? Probably not, don’t need too. 35% on 1.5-2 makes a game and IU will have a top 15 offense.

Yes and Terrance Shannon Jr the year before.

Objectively, I think Carlyle has a much higher overall ceiling than Rice.

Johnell Davis denied admission into Michigan. Sounds like he didn’t graduate after 4 years at FAU. https://x.com/zyavierr/status/1781840927549473189?s=46

He’s likely the worst defender in the entire B10, and not joking either. I don’t know if he’ll even see the floor enough at Nebraska to light anybody up. Nebraska lost a lot in the backcourt this offseason so the avenue to immediate playing time is cleared there, but he was going to struggle to get minutes here next year.

I don't know why but he reminds me of Jerome Hunter

Yeah I don't know what specific role he gives you offensively but for a team who likes to switch as much as Indiana in Woodson system, Thiero can guard 1-4 and challenge anybody at the rim defensively.

I lied. Josh Hubbard-Miss St and Marcus Banks UMBC were the only other two to shoot above 35% on the needed volume to qualify.

Reed Shepphard is the only one I remember off the top of my head. The other two were from schools I'd never heard of.

There were 3 freshman who shot over 35% from 3 on volume last year. You'll quickly find those kind of freshman don't grow on trees. I believe you'll find even the most prolific 3 point shooters improved steadily throughout their careers. Expect the same for all 3 of our soon to be sophomores.

A skilled 5 who can play 10 mpg that serves depth purposes. Every good team has that.

Oumar Ballo (7'0" C) TO INDIANA

    A lot more athletic

He's got two years of eligibility left. With Galloway graduating and Mgbako potentially moving on after the end of next season, I see avenue for quality minutes if he puts in the work and sees things through for his senior season.

Oumar Ballo (7'0" C) TO INDIANA

Ballo is Udoka Azubuike who played for Kansas a few years back. Was an AA in 2020 on almost identical numbers to that of Ballo. Drafted in the first round after his senior year as well

I'd prefer Malone and Humrichous but wouldn't be mad with Essegian either.

I'm here and BTownqb has it exactly right. Shot-making, especially from of our guards, was non-existent last year, and yes that includes the ability to shoot from the perimeter. But how many guys were effective shooting off the bounce in PnR? How many could get to the rim when they wanted? On top of converting? How many times did they get to the line because of their dynamics? That was by far and away our biggest issue last season, not "We PLaYeD THrOuGH THe POsT".
