Transfer Portal w IU Interest
AH1971 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Would be highly entertaining but I think you condense the floor that much more, especially if the big is a defensive oriented rim protector. Conerway nor Claude shoot it particularly well from the perimeter. -

I don’t think he’s coming here. Going to be too out of budget. -

He’s much closer to a 1 than a 2 or 3 with how much the ball is in his hand. He’s likely a better polished college version of JHS. Which isn’t a bad thing, but what do you then with Enright/Conerway? None of those 3 are good enough shooters to play together in the back court. -

Would definitely start, but now you're getting into the "only one ball" territory. Unless Wilkerson and DeVries become catch and shoot guys, that's a lot of high usage players on the court at once. -
With Kamara moving to the STUD position replacing Carr, guessing the two new transfers (Daley and Wyatt) will compete to fill Kamara's vacancy on the other side of the line. Also think Landino moves inside. Like Garcia a lot and think he will get some snaps early, but guess he preserves a redshirt unless there is an injury. Staff was working hard to add the Ohio DT who ended up at Maryland so they may not be done.

Nick Dorn to Indiana from Elon
AH1971 replied to IU Prof's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I think it may be a positional thing more than skill set. I think Dorn is a much better catch and shoot guy and and could end up being a very good 3 and D guy for somebody down the line. His efficiency really takes a tumble once you make him put it on the floor as he did not shoot it well off the bounce last year. Miles appears to be more bouncy and a more natural three level scorer. Both could co-exist on the floor together but with Wilkerson and DeVries also out on the perimeter, minutes are limited. Miles as a natural 2 guard and Dorn as a 3 and D wing two years from now would get me excited but that's a tough sell in the present. -

I don't think he starts. I think you'll see a rim protecting big, 3 wing shooters (DeVries and Wilkerson are locks), and then Conerway. The above lineup is really bad defensively out on the perimeter and Bailey is still going to struggle guarding quicker, smaller 4's. I think Bailey will play the 4 and 5 next year tailored to the remaining personnel. 25-27 mpg sounds about right. -

With Dorn? Dorn put up similar numbers to Miles in a much better conference. Not convinced Miles is that much better than Dorn, if better at all, at least offensively. Not a bad problem to have either. -

Last years West Virginia team was extremely long and athletic, especially out on the perimeter. They shot 32% from 3 as a team. They were one of the best defensive teams in the country. Next years team will rival some of the good Fran Iowa teams in my opinion. That's the anti-thesis of last years West Virginia team. -

Huh? Javon Small was a ball dominant, scoring first PG who could light it up from distance----Enright/Conerway had two of the highest assist rates in the country last year and will be pass first PG's in this system; neither are good 3 pt shooters Okani/Harris were lengthy, athletic slashers slashers who excelled defensively----Wilkerson/Miles are high usage, three level scorers not known for defense that lack elite athleticism Hansberry and Bailey's games aren't comparable. Bailey is a skilled point forward, Hansberry is a rim runner. I don't think DeVries West Virginia team and his first IU team could be more opposite if we're being honest. DeVries WVU teams wore opponents down defensively, IU more than likely going to have to outscore the opposition next year given the personnel. -

Bailey is a luxury in my opinion because offensively you can play him at the 4 and 5. Assuming we add a solid rim protector at the 5 who isn't offensively gifted, I think you'll see Bailey get split minutes at both spots. -

He must have a ton of upside because he's not exactly tearing it up on a mid-table Greek team after being loaned out from the top team in Greece. Would think a year of college ball could really help is game. Did wonders for KJ at Illinois and Demin at BYU. -

There are always outliers to every norm. You can expect whatever the hell you want, not telling you otherwise. But this fanbases expectations haven't jived with reality for much of the last 20 years. It'll click one day....I hope at least. -

I'm not talking about where the blame lies, I'm talking about putting a first year coach on the proverbial hot seat after inheriting a roster with ZERO players on it. I don't care how much money you have to spend, getting 13-15 new guys to play for a new coach with little to no familiarity of one another is no easy task. And when you're only recruiting pitch out of the gate is money, you're bound for some growing pains. And I don't care if one or two other coaches somewhere else have done it. You can count on one hand the number of coaches in college basketball who prefer to retool their rosters every single season and I don't get this gist that DeVries is one of them. The only thing I'm going to really judge DeVries on this year is the system he runs and how well he can get guys to buy in and play hard night in and night out. This is a marathon, not a sprint. -

Ok, so you're admittedly basing the expectations for next year on the allotment of money spent and not the actual quality of the player, further proving my point? You're going to have to overspend to put together a roster of 13-15 new faces. A wait and see approach with next years squad seems much more applicable. -

AH1971 replied to Hoosierfan2017's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Uhh no. You've inferred that IU should make the tournament simply on payroll alone in multiple other posts. Reality, you have no clue how well these guys will perform up a level, with added expectations and pressure, etc Like I said in an earlier post, it's entirely possible that we way overspent. Nobody knows. That's why judging a first year coach who put together a brand new roster in less than a month is patently stupid. -

Same goes for the comments that start like this, "You don't need 2-3 years" or "With a $10 million payroll" There will be people on this board who place a definitive ceiling on DeVries after this season with however the year plays out. -

Because nobody on this board has the authority to do so lol. But I've read plenty of posts, today alone, that suggest the process should begin in the event the tournament is missed next year. You don't have to outright say it to imply it, Stu. -

Did Florida or UConn fire their coaches after their first year or two? Put them on any kind of hot seat? You're kind of making my point.
