Transfer Portal w IU Interest
AH1971 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Not sure Adams is overly helpful here. Booker didn't play for Indiana Elite rather George Hill and I believe briefly with Indy Heat. Honestly, Notre Dame would be the best fit for Booker assuming he can gain admission. Shrews is a Cathedral grad as is Booker and the staff has a ton of local Indy connections. -

We have a coaching staff and a few of them have already been recruiting for IU. -

Yes fast riser. He was 304 on 11/30/24, 150 on 1/15/25, and shot all the way up to 70 on 2/2/25 -
I don't give a literal f*** where he's rated in the portal. Has zero bearing on anything I've said in regards to Bennett. If he's your best player, you aren't competing for a P5 conference championship. At Iowa, he'll get to do the same thing he did at Drake, except he's not playing MVC competition night in and night out. He might even have a great individual season, but they aren't competing for a B10 championship next year and it'll be because he's Iowa's best player. Every bad team in America has a guy that puts up numbers...who cares?
-
Cool? He can have all the offseason, nonsensical recognition he wants...when Iowa finishes 13th in the B10, you know where to find me.

Huh?

lol what the hell? I have zero problems with guys getting paid. I thought your comments about Pack not chasing a bag to Miami was laughable. Of course he was chasing a bag….hes the OG bag chaser. -

I’ve never been enthralled with Pack so not sure what makes you think that? -

Yes and? Would be a phenomenal role player on a team like Duke or Florida. 3rd guard who can stretch the floor and handle the ball. Every good team has a guy like that. -

Record of teams Pack has played on: 20-21: 9-20 21-22: 14-17 (Weber fired and next years team went to the E8) 22-23: 29-8 (ACC POY Wong and NBA draft pick Jordan Miller) 23-24: 15-17 24-25: 7-24 (3-6 on a 6 game losing streak when Pack "quit" to preserve another year of eligibility and one more chance at NIL) I'll pass on him. "Later he says Stirtz isn’t a starter on a good team, meanwhile the kid is the top ranked transfer on 247 despite the thousands who’ve entered".....also never said that. I said he's not the best player on a top 25 team. If Iowa is ranked in the top 25 this year I'll gladly eat crow. But when Iowa finishes mid to bottom pack of the B10 this year it will be because Stirtz is Iowa's best player. -

It's clear that Isaiah Wong (ACC POY) and Jordan Miller were the catalysts of that Miami team that went to the F4. Those two left and Miami instantly became one of the worst P4 teams in the country. He played on two Kansas State teams that went 9-20 and 14-17 (that ultimately got Bruce Weber fired) and K-State immediately went to the E8 the following year after he transferred out. I don't think that's a coincidence. I think Pack is a fine individual player, but like Malik Reneau, he's a black hole. He's an undersized 2 guard forced to play point because of his height. He's a good shooter but not a great facilitator and an even worse defender. I don't mind Pack as an individual player but would have strong reservations with him in a lineup that features Conwell, Dix, and DeVries. That's 4 guns with the same mentality that lack size, length, and athleticism. Not sure many, if any of them, are plus defenders. If that means I'm negative, so the hell be it. I don't think Pack is a winning player. -

Who said there was an issue? You said he wasn't chasing a bag because he was considering Purdue. -
lol ok
-
Certainly an opinion and one that you're entitled too. Benter hasn't played a minute of college basketball to in any way quantify that statement.

He chose Miami because they offered him $800k and a Bentley while Purdue offered him a chance to start. Nijel Pack is the OG bag chaser. And not that there is anything wrong with that, but his NIL deal was one of the first widely publicized deals in this new era. He's a good individual player, but that Miami team went to **** once most of their core left after the F4 year. -
Yeah, he was a top 50 player coming out of high school and was coming off a pretty significant lower leg injury if I recall correctly.

If he's going to Iowa like it's being suggested, I'm not sure when or where he plays. Bennet Stirtz lead the nation in minutes played last year. -

The hell? Conwell, DeVries, and Pack are all ultra-high usage players and Dix is no slouch himself. That rarely works out. Not being negative, that's just a fact. -
Yet was the only freshman in Purdue's 6 man class to redshirt? Purdue's 2nd unit was horrible this year. Interesting.

Really? Of all the places to go he's going to a place whose PG never leaves the floor? Odd would be an understatement. -
Will be shocked if Benter plays more than 10 minutes a game next year, especially if they sign this transfer from Northeastern. I get it though, you're a Brownstown guy needing to defend his own.
-
Can't say that I've watched Benter as he wasn't good enough to crack their rotation and subsequently redshirted. The same rotation that Colvin could barely crack.

Fun offensive lineup, but one ball for Pack, Conwell, Dix, and DeVries could be problematic. Pack might be one of the worst defenders in college basketball. Pack, Conwell, and an elite wing defender with Flory protecting the rim would be a better alternative. -
Again, why do you assume all that? Iowa had a coaching change, it’s customary for a recruit to re-open his commitment in these kinds of situations. Every time I’ve seen this kid play he’s very active with an extremely high motor. He’s a plus athlete to boot. Could be a very nice player for somebody at this level one of these days if he develops.
