The academic performance of Cronin's student-athletes could also end up giving him an additional bonus as high as $60,000.

I don't think UCLA is going to voluntarily lower his buyout without pushback, no. But Cronin, via his agent and lawyer, has a legitimate case to sue UCLA because nothing in his current contract when he signed his extension says anything about UCLA switching conferences and flying 2000 miles and being on the road for a week at a time every other week. Rather than going to court, UCLA could ultimately agree to a reduced buyout.

UCLA might not have a choice in the matter. The stipulations in Cronin's contract ie UCLA jumping conferences was never in play when he signed his extension.

Only the IU administration could fumble hiring such a sure thing.

As it's been stated, there is an extremely likely chance Cronin can fight his way out of his buyout or drastically have it reduced given what has transpired at UCLA since signing his extension.

It was announced mid-season so some lunatic didn’t blow up Assembly Hall with some 18k people in it. But in all seriousness, this is what the IU administration does. They were not ever going to “fire” and remove one of the better players to put on an IU uniform in the middle of the season.
