If we hire him yes
-
Who else are you going to hire?
-
Not really. If we don’t get DeVries this is going to turn into a 2-3 week nightmare that blows UK’s fiasco last year out of the water. We’ve gotten what, 4-5 candidates new jobs/raises so far and the tournament hasn’t even started?
-
Is that a bad thing? The amount of misinformation spread about Stevens spanning 4 years and 2 different coaching searches is mesmerizing. At what point do you start to pick better friends lol.
-
Appreciate this. The Brad Stevens dream died about this time 4 years ago and don’t believe it ever got past anything than an obligatory phone call back in February. Crazy times when gifs and encrypted messages outweighs optics and common sense.
-
That’s going to be the case for any coach. DeVries at least can bring a roster stable enough to make the tournament at minimum next year. McCollum trying to mesh 11-12 new faces next year could be a disaster.
-
The more you look into DeVries, the more boxes he checks -tutelage under two highly respected basketball coaches (Altman and McDermott) -Highly successful at the mid-major level, set the standard at Drake -P5 experience -capable of leading overnight rebuilds -success in the portal -can bring a roster that should immediately contend in the B10
-
More than likely yes, which was always going to be the case. The idea that Brad Stevens was going to walk away from the Celtics in the middle of the season sounds more ridiculous by the day….yet has been the topic of discussion for the last two months.

Information on IU’s new coach, not to be told told how to think or act. You?
-
They should have been in the tournament regardless of his son’s injury status who hadn’t played since December. They had more Q1 wins without Tucker than UNC did the entire season. WVU was absolutely jobbed by the committee. They should have been a 9 seed, at worst a 10.
-
This guy doesn’t know anything lol
-
If you bought into the hype that IU was going to hire Brad Stevens or Jay Wright or any other established “big fish”….that’s on you. Kentucky and Louisville told you this was going to be the case. It was never going to happen no matter how many different gifs and encrypted messages were sent by a select few posters.
-
Not really. That’s basically how Michigan ended up with Dusty May. Met with Louisville and they were sure he was signing (believe a fair amount of national reporters picked up on it) only to pick Michigan at the 11th hour. Its entirely possible DD prefers the Iowa job but left the interview yesterday knowing they can’t provide what’s needed to succeed at the highest level.

I believe Ben McCollum believes he could turn Drake into the next Gonzaga and become the next Mark Few if you told him he couldn’t.
-
I would be very surprised if DeVries is at West Virginia next season regardless of what his agent may be pushing. Very well could have left Iowa City today wanting the Iowa job but left without signing a contract and is leveraging the IU job to get Iowa to up the ante, but Iowa isn’t going to be able to get into a bidding war, let alone win one.
-
Took over a bad West Virginia team. Completely gutted the roster. Was picked to finish at or near the bottom of the B12. Beat Gonzaga and Arizona in the Bahamas (lost to Louisville in OT to go to finals). Far exceeded year 1 expectations despite losing his best player early in the season and was snubbed a tourney bid this year. This all after a great run at Drake for several seasons. DeVries is more enticing to me over someone like McCollum because I believe he’s got a roster he can bring that can win out of the gate. Imperative that whoever coaches IU next year win and ride that momentum or it’s going to be a long 3-4 years.
-
Maybe he was in Iowa City and just couldn’t agree to Iowa’s terms?
-
I’d be content with DeVries. Pulled a sitting P5 coach who got screwed out of a tournament bid despite losing his best player to injury 10 games into the season. Has a fairly competent group of kids he could bring over: -Tucker DeVries obviously who has all-league potential -F Armani Hansberry 6’8 240 played freshman year at Illinois avg 10/7 23 mpg. Two years eligibility left -G Sencire Harris who also played his freshman year at Illinois. All B12 defensive team. Two years eligibility left -G Johnathon Powell high school teammate of Gabe Cupps. Averaged 9 points ppg and shot 36% from 3 on over 6 attempts as a true freshman I’d keep an eye on Kevin Overton at Texas Tech who was a starting freshman guard on Drake under DeVries two seasons ago. Also Connor Enright who played his first two seasons at Drake before transferring to DePaul where he averaged 6+ assists per game. DeVries isn’t a sexy hire but honestly IU could do so much worse given the current state of the program.
-
You’re still doing this lol? Giving me way too much credit.
-
Brad Stevens should have never been a point of discussion to begin with. These last two months just shows how far out of touch with reality most of this fanbase is. This hire was always going to be closer to a Brad Brownell type than a Brad Stevens type.
-
Stick to pictography clown. I know what you guys make.

Evidently not. Stevens isn’t coaching IU. If Vegas isn’t going to take Stevens bet I’ll be the house. My condo still hurting from Ian lol.

Shaka is a good coach but doesn’t fit the mold of what we’ve allegedly heard Dolson is looking for. Dude doesn’t use the portal, like at all, and just in the last week told multiple of his players agents to f*** off. https://frontofficesports.com/shaka-smart-marquette-nil-agents/

Thamel or Goodman will break it and then Osterman will confirm it. Rabby will then too, 10 minutes after the fact.
