Bingo. There’s absolutely zero reason why we should still be doing this 4 years later.
-
I think that was largely tied to Fran still being employed. Iowa fans have wanted him gone for years. He told his middle son to transfer out and didn't even bother to recruit his youngest son given the toxicity of the situation. Fran's been waiting on this buyout for a minute. I would think Iowa's NIL picks up to an extent if they were in fact able to hire DeVries away from WVU.

What does Woodson have to do with hiring Brad Brownell?
-
Why? Because he's made the tournament 5 times in 15 years at Clemson? Very real chance the Brownell experiment ends similarly to our last half dozen experiments.
-
I mean yeah, what other choice do you have? I'm not sure moving on from Woodson and striking out on everybody just to hire Brownell is the consolation prize you think it is just because he has college basketball experience.
-
Not all college basketball coaches are created the same, clearly.
-
Good for NC State if true.
-
Like I said two weeks ago, this place will be yearning for a Will Wade or Mick Cronin once this search has run its course.
-
Divert attention from what?
-
Utah and Florida State have both hired new coaches
-
That's the only reason I keep coming back to him, because him jumping from Creighton to IU at this stage of his career is puzzling. But Vegas always knows.
-
Watching this Loyola/SLU game as we speak, Loyola scored on 12 straight possessions.
-
Might be time to start looking for a new AD then.
-
Iowa hiring McCollum might force Dolson to hire Will Wade, especially if someone like Brownell makes a deep run again.
-
Or you hire a coach who has been to the second weekend back to back times and hope he can build off of it at a more basketball friendly school with better resources?
-
Nobody should receive death threats over a basketball game no matter how much money they do or don't make. Common sense.
-
Already made my point. McDermott moving from Creighton to Indiana at this stage of his career would be, to put it bluntly, stupid.
-
I think the way his Clemson teams have played the last few seasons are why he's a candidate. That fact that he's from Indiana and has recruiting connections to the state is just a bonus. That being said, hiring Brad Brownell when Will Wade is readily available isn't wise by any measure.
-
IF an announcement were to come Monday, it'd be Collins out of that group. Would also be a pretty out of left field hire which has been mentioned if you're looking at it from an outside or neutral perspective.
-
That would be a terrible look for McCollum (or anyone for that matter) if their name was leaked prior to their team not only playing but losing in the NCAAT. I think Goodman's tweet was from McCollum's camp to put Iowa on the clock. If Fran isn't fired in the next 24-48 hours, McCollum to IU might actually have some legs.
-
If money was his primary motivation he would have left Creighton years ago. He's already made several millions for himself and has a son who has more money than sin.
-
From McDermott's perspective? Absolutely, he's got it completely made at Creighton and consistently has them in the top 20-25. Why leave that to go try and do that Indiana?
-
I don't think McDermott would "fail" at IU but I also don't see McDermott coaching 10-12 years here either. I think there's plenty of younger guys who could raise the floor at IU, all with significantly higher ceilings due to their age. But most importantly, I just don't get making the move from McDermott's angle. Why leave Creighton, especially now of all the times? Would have made sense after his son graduated 10 years back.
-
McDermott is 60 years old. He's made several millions of dollars over the last 20 years and has a son who has made $70+ million in the NBA over the last decade. This isn't a money motivated move to build generational wealth for his family....he doesn't need it.
-
Why? From McDermott's perspective---How many people nearing the age of retirement take at best a lateral job move? And yes, Creighton is a better basketball program than IU right now. McDermott failed at his first P5 gig and then reinvented himself at Creighton, turning them into a consistent top 25 program. He has it made in Omaha doing things his way in a complete stress-free environment. Why leave a program that is currently rolling to take a job that turns and burns coaches like a temp agency? Retire a legend at Creighton or potentially be run out of town in Bloomington is something to seriously ponder. From IU's perspective---You're about to hire your 6th coach in 25 years. Your fan base is nuts and starving for success. You have zero culture or foundation of which to work with. Do I really want to hire a guy who will be 61 when next season starts? Do I risk a guy nearing the age of retirement getting burned out in a fishbowl job if things go south? He'd be a solid hire as he'd raise the floor and have IU making the tournament consistently. But I don't think McDermott is going to deliver you a national title in a 5-6 year span. McDermott is a bridge hire, someone that should have been hired to replace Crean. I think there's a good chance we're doing this all over again in 5-6 years if you hire McDermott.
