Duncan Robinson went from D3 to UM and now has had a long NBA career
-
Who are those sure things. It won't be Stevens,Drew,TJO or May so there are no thing as a sure thing either I would take a chance on McCollum over guys like Beard, Wade,Collins or Brownell
-
Yes they will try to go big game hunting but more than likely won't get the big game. How has KU shown they hire big time coaches lately since they haven't hired a new coach for over 20 years. They hired Roy Williams who had no HC experience. If you look at the all time great coaches very few went from one elite job to another. Most of them started at a mid major then got their major job and stayed at one place.

Nobody is a can't miss prospect

All the proof you need is the hires from blue bloods the last few years to see that top coaches aren't leaving their current jobs for another job. UCONN Hurley Rhode Island UK Pope BYU UL Kelsey C of C UNC Davis Assistant coach Duke Shchyer Assistant Coach UCLA Cronin UC

We sports fans are a weird bunch. We all have candidates we like and would like to see hired and we spend hours trying to make others see what we see. I like McCollum and would like to see him hired so why do I care if others don't like him. Why do we try to justify our opinions and try to change others mind because im the end none of it matters. IU will hire a coach who they feel is the best fit to coach IU. All of us will have a choice after the hire the next coach. You can either support the choice or find another team to follow.

Pitino didn't leave the big east for UK Also show me the last few years where a lot of coaches left power conference teams for other power teams. Calipari left because he was getting heat and wanted out.
-
So if IU had hired Kelsey last year our fan base would have been outrage. UL thought they had May after Drew said no. UK went after Hurley and Drew before selecting Pope
-
So why did UK have to settle for Pope or UL for Kelsey
-
I just don't see a reason for the guys like TJO or Drew to leave for this job because they can win there and with less pressure. Why do you think UK had to settle for Pope or UL with Kelsey. Top coaches don't leave for other power conference teams. It shouldn't be real hard to understand that

What makes Beard a top coach. He has had two really good seasons and the rest are just average. Doesn't that sound a lot like Crean
-
I am not talking about the administration but the fans turning on coaches at the first site if trouble.
-
If you are talking about offense being boring so that would eliminate Beard and TJO since their offense isn't very good.
-
What is so funny Certified. The IU fans were used to the up tempo Hurrying Hoosiers and didn't like the slow pace and defensive oriented style of RMK. It didn't take long for the fans to change when they saw it win big.
-
Actually from what I have heard that some fans weren't happy with the RMK hire
-
Maybe this is why we get crappy coaches because the top coaches don't want to come here. They see the fan base turns quickly on the coach if they don't win right away.
-
If it wins, yes people will watch. UVA won a championship and UW got to two final fours playing slower
-
What excites me is a 30-3 record. I take substance over style any day. I thought I read where his championship teams averaged over 80 points a game. Maybe he feels like this is the style he has to play for this team to win
-
I am just wondering if we are just delusional or we just don't really pay attention to college basketball. Big time coaches don't need or want to come here because they can already succeed where they are right now. With the comment how we have the win right away just shows our mentality and why coaches might not want to coach here.
-
That is the problem thinking we have to win big early. Do you want a quick fix or have long term stability.

I would say that it is more that those candidates are interested in the job
-
Our only great coach RMK came to IU as a 31 year old coach who played a deliberate offense and a great defense. Our fans were use to the Hurrying Hoosiers and didn't like this kind of basketball but it didn't take much time for the fans to buy in.
-
Couldn't Goodman got this info from those coaches agents
-
Still can't get caught up but it appears there are some drama queens posting today. I see we should just get rid of the basketball program or this search is a complete failure. I don't understand why anyone would be surprised that those coaches mentioned would not be interested in the job. Our fans need to just look at the past hiring cycles and realize you don't see many power conference coaches leaving for another job. The ones who will leave are guys like Beard or Brownell who are at lower tier power conference teams.
