Back in the day it was Branch McCracken and the ‘Hurryin’ Hoosiers.

Point wise T. Moren and the Indiana Ladies came the closest to beating South Carolina at minus -4 in March Madness and only Tennessee all year came closest at -1.

In today’s climate of NIL and coaching money etc etc etc….. I wouldn’t be opposed to a losing non winning program if there was a coach and staff who could stay around for a quarter of a century and the bulk of the team were 4 year players. That way I could actually learn the names of players, coaches and have the team and program grow on me so to appreciate it. Welcome, would be a couple or 3 at most 4 (4 would be exception to the rule) non 4 year players across a 4 year period. So there would be a coach who would grow old to or near retirement and teams of 12 with no more than 2 or 3 transfers. Always have a team of 9, 10, 11 or even better 12…. 4 year players (unless there was the exception to the rule situation). That way I could actually get to know the players/team who I was cheering for.

Congrats, Arielle in her recent performances including the March Madness Final Four making a positive impact on the game and representing the Indiana Ladies Basketball Program in a positive way.

Has anyone seen Coach Woodson walking to the bank this morning carrying his briefcase? -
Up 7. Milk the clock. Get something going towards basket and either layup (force ref to make a call) or kick out for mid range or 3 ball on closing possessions. Clock was becoming your friend. Has nothing to do with changing who you are. Indiana State has done that before. Taking 3 ball shots early in clock at that point in game = turnovers. However, excellent game by both teams and great season for Indiana State. (overall Seton Hall controlled the game just a bit more than in a home crowd Indiana State and physically a little better team)

Cheers and Congrats to Sara Scalia 3 Point Champ 2024!

Around 2:57 to go in the game it was 77-70. Indiana State had just made back to back 3 balls. Seton Hall called T.O. Coach Swertz should have had team to milk clock and go to the bucket for layup or kick out for 3 ball. Instead Indiana State simply came down and shot 3 ball way to early in shot clock and did not score and was out scored 9-0 to end the game.

Thanks…that’s what I was wondering and things like that happened before NIL. (Checks and balances not sure how well they ever worked. Probably sometimes and often not. Also wondering about a coach’s and staff personal expenses and actually all involved vs NIL separation….. I suppose I should just stop wondering. Lol -

Is MW out of NIL money? Does he ask for more NIL money? Actually, does anyone here know the specifics of NIL money/donations whatever you call it/Rules/Regulations/Guidelines? Can family members of players receive benefits? Etc…..what is the rule book or is it like the wild wild west? I suppose it was like that before in some places and circumstances. Information would be appreciated. -
There is a pretty big difference from just 10 years ago until today in college Ladies basketball. There were a handful of elite programs but overall it was different than today. Today, T. Moren hire would be a much more long shot. I agree with you about the many things and individuals who said many negative things about T. Moren hire as evidenced by the old no longer discontinued IU blog that I posted on and of course highly criticized for stating it was one of the best hires at IU plus the Purdue connections. Reasons I supported T. Moren hire: 1. Even then T. Moren was pretty well respected for much of her work for the level she worked in. 2. Maybe biased but Lynn Dunn spoke highly of her. 3. Indiana State coach at the time/ Greg Lansing stated in a positive way “Indiana has no idea of what they just hired as their women basketball coach.” 4. T. Moren understood the whole Indiana basketball paradigm that existed. 5. IU Ladies program was at a low point. (and large numbers of elite recruits did not flock to Indiana and really still don’t though getting much much much better….working hard to get them). As evidenced (not just at IU) carries varying degrees of risk and so do recruits/players). sidenote: 13 years at Tennessee before Pat Summitt won first National Championship.

Though T. Moren did not have elite level success nor name recognition she did have some success at both, Indianapolis and Indiana State for the athletes that she was coaching. Both programs improved significantly under T. Moren. Her biggest strengths were as player under Dunn and assistant coaching positions…Northwestern, Butler, and Georgia Tech. I thought it was a very good hire at the time and I also at the time did not follow Ladies basketball that much. And at the very beginning of T. Moren hire it was like instant coffee. I started to follow IU Ladies basketball program. She had been around the block some and I don’t think it was a lucky hire at all…it was a solid hire that I thought was at the very least very good.

I guess from what I am reading things have changed in that it’s not uncommon for teams not to be on the floor for National Anthem. But Kim Mulky playing dumb and evading question.
-
Of course IU has done it many times in basketball and other sports. Josh Schertz and his Sycamores in 3 years took all that Wabash Valley community enthusiasm to Hinkle Fieldhouse from hardly anything 3 years ago. sidenote: Indiana State has an excellent baseball program as well.
-
Thanks. Reason I noted Oklahoma was because I was at the game. And before the National Anthem I seen team members walk off the floor if I remember correctly. It struck me as odd at the time because IU Ladies were at attention on the floor. Oklahoma was not. But I was not sure if they were in the corner close to their bench when it was playing. Just wondering what teams are doing currently and that includes all sports. For LSU….I don’t really believe their coach. (she has only been doing this nearing a half century). Program has turned into exaggeration and victim hood mentality.
-
I know about LSU and that program image. I was wondering about Oklahoma game.
-
Does anyone know answer: Oklahoma game. Last night LSU went to locker room during National Anthem. IU Ladies did what IU does vs Oklahoma which means standing at attention. Did Oklahoma go to locker room during National Anthem or stand in their corner near where they huddle?…..Did not see them on the court.

It took Pat Summit 13 years to win a National Championship at Tennessee.
-
Yes….Agree. Get high level plus like to see Garzon sisters at IU….Happy secure shooters make for better shooters…my opinion.
-
Waiting on what T. Moren and staff are able to acquire in transfer portal (couple impact high level players needed) is kinda like waiting to open a couple of presents…..not expecting 4 open scholarships available to be used…but there is a need for a couple including a physical inside taller player that is always needed, plus mid range and inside outside (Karlen/Marquette) type player. I expect Bargesser to improve her shooting quite a bit where she’s a dependable shooter.

IU Ladies with Faith and Sidney coming in = 11 . Ladies basketball can carry a 15 roster. That would mean 4 scholarships available including Currie Jelks on roster. -
Tennessee looking for a new Ladies basketball coach. Tennessee Ladies Vols blog all over the place. Even mentioned Jacks/Syracuse who has won at Buffalo and Syracuse but not at IU. AD probably already has replacement in mind even though not sure about search. IU has an excellent distinguished thing going and make sure T. Moren is well cared for. During March Madness I noticed that several teams in elite 8 have around a decade between appearances.
