IUWBB @ Butler - Wednesday, 11.13.24 @ 7:00
TTT replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Women's Basketball
Mentally, it’s a domino effect. When inside game is not good and dependable at high levels, lack of athleticism for whole team then pressure mounts into missed shots from layups to outside shooting and overall play…. and the opposing team can sense it and mentally becomes confident, feeling good and ups their level of play….especially good teams. -
This is a situation that this team may already be in the process of being lost. After emphasis of live in the gym, player development, and all the things involved to players not at the required ability levels ….how much will players and team be able to endure?

No inside game makes everything bad. -
Over and under 2024-2025 Big Ten wins for IU Ladies Basketball = 6 Overall Record for 2024-2025 win/loss record = 50% over and under. IU Ladies are in total rebuild at a time when big ten Ladies have gotten 3 times tougher (not only with west coast teams but also returning big ten teams). Good luck with Purdue. IU Ladies are going to need it. The sky has fallen and this is a long term problem…..Elite basketball players at all positions needed. (Lack of recruiting athletic, big, quick, ball handling, passing players that can shoot has caught up with IU Ladies). IU IS A FOOTBALL SCHOOL

Parrish seems to be a good mood standing in a foot/ankle boot at Hinkle. -
Beat OSU and Purdue, and proceed on to Oregon and proceed on. (throw deep vs OSU).
-
Not sure what to expect vs Butler? Would be really surprised if IU Ladies even come that close to beating Stanford Ladies (Stanford is winning vs some competition by alot).
-
Good to have bye week to get things in order including OL. After tuneup I don’t think Ohio State will not do quite as much as Michigan did to OL. Throw the ball deep. That’s what Oregon did. (Include it in game plan more than normal).

Monday @7:00 105.1 Inside Indiana Ladies Basketball (Teri Moren has lost her voice) with Ali Patberg…..Key and Lilly M. Ali: Tough loss with unforced errors. Film hard to watch for team. Hard few days. Highs and lows during seasons. Good response in practices. Shay still adjusting. Passing for great shots and guards need to get it to Lilly when she is open quickly. Key: Learning and she was scout for Harvard. Shay still adjusting. Lilly needs to be Lilly. Ladies moving forward. Lilly: Big personality…Played several sports and dancing. Learned from Mac. Ladies trying to figure things out with Mac and Sara gone. (Surprisingly a little bit) Lilly has an outgoing personality. @ Butler, Wednesday Home: Stanford, Sunday

Continue seeing more media pictures of IU Ladies in leg wraps and boots… maybe just for comfort. -
This is a time when an Individual (Head Coach and Staff, Players, and all involved) accomplished everything He/They said He/They were going to do. what a fall it has been in Bloomington. Didn’t Coach Cignetti say He/They were going to be Big Ten Champs 2024 and National Champs January 2025??? JUST SAY’IN.

It seems to me that it’s not that IU Ladies (nationally) doesn’t want and go after more elite recruits, but the elite 5 stars do not respect nor have IU Ladies on their list as a high priority. (Refer to recruiting battles). I am sure T. Moren would love to develop 5 star players into 6 star players (wnba star types). Is whatever is amiss in recruiting at that level a little bit of a coverup for things as they are…good to very good but not greatness. (Maybe, great compared before T. Moren era). Along with winning T. Moren has worked in coaching USA national teams but seems not to be translating. (Though a few years ago now, Parrish who was number 7 recruit in the country spent a couple years at Oregon before IU) (Not sure the picture of the big ten regular season championship trophy picture poses with 5 stars recruits is effective)….maybe more effective with the short window of a national championship trophy or final four when the possibilities were more realistic. -

Scalia was a 3 star prospect in high school and Czeski a 4 star which could be debatable. Currently, IU Ladies are just discombobulated, not physical enough. Inside game is to much fumbling around. Garzon is an easy charge for defense. Maybe, it would be nice for a mid range jumper. -

Equals in the big ten getting beat by 40 instead of 20. (Kadlecova could be a future in a couple years a solid role player in rotation if she sticks with it). This team is going to take time to develop and improve. Unless recruiting turns around for the better…in most all areas to compliment what is already there and coming in the next couple years and the future IU Ladies will be in the bottom half of the big ten. IU Ladies are losing or not able to sustain enough elite recruiting battles. (IU Ladies are not a priority for them). -

Holmes defensive player of the year (big ten) besides her offense and everything else IU Ladies worked through her. -

Besides (Beaumont and Bargesser out…and when they do come back is it going to be at 75 to 80%) Playing in the big ten or equivalent conference IU Ladies are going to have many disappointing games season and seasons to come.….partially short comings in recruitment is catching up. Player and team development can only go so far. -

It could be said Harvard quickness. However, it’s going to be a long tough season for IU Ladies. -
As most teams do….they take on a similar if not the same personality of the coach in their play… this is another example of that.
-
Several years ago I remember setting at an outside restaurant/bar watching IU go to an over rated 24th ranked Oregon and win 30 to 24. Led at halftime 23 to 0. Oregon in 2004 finished 5 and 6. Oregon was good sometimes but took a leap starting with Chip Kelly. Like Oregon IU can go for deep passes vs OSU after beating Michigan and Purdue setting up a conference championship game vs Oregon.

Scalia was great especially her last year. However, I remember it was not always easy her first year including some shooting inconsistency especially at the beginning. -

2024-25 version of IU Ladies is to watch team overcome some injury issues and enjoy how much this particular team can grow and develop. -
IU getting closer to where they deserve to be.
