Mackenzie Holmes to Seattle Storm
TTT replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Women's Basketball
We want you. No we don’t. Yes we want you. Hard. Not Easy. Seattle Storm finding that Holmes is just not that easy to get rid of. Haha -
2024-2025 definitely had pot holes and lacked recruitment of more thoroughbred horses over the years caught up with IU Ladies and disabled them from continuing to reach new heights….to the extent of T. Moren BRIEFLY questioning her own future (per Indianapolis Star and Bloomington Herald Times article My take is ….very tiring maybe, or it’s just because she cares…….Be interesting to see how these road repairs work….how the new road construction will proceed, produce and perform in the future IU Ladies basketball seasons.

Does anyone know how much the total salaries (or do I mean NIL) costs for IU football players for 2025? vs let’s say other top 15 teams?
-
Linda Sayavongchanh to Colorado State like a package deal with Bargesser. Not sure how it turns out regarding IU Ladies but they have a new personality adjustment.

(2026) - (PG/SG) Ashlinn James to INDIANA
TTT replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Women's Basketball
Per ESPN 60 rank Ashlinn James 4 star at 93 Indiana PG -
Q.B. since he is going to be around may just decide sometime in the future to bring M.W. back in some capacity because of his new found professional brilliancy….. or Q.B. realizing in his own mind of his distinguished decision making In the future may have another name up his sleeve to push to bring on board. That’s the way elitism works.

Ragtag team….Interesting to see if T. Moren can become Big Ten Coach of the Year or NCAA National Coach of the Year…..along with staff and players/team development ….That would be a ‘Cinderella Never a Dull Moment story.’

In Indiana, the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) has updated its transfer rules, allowing student-athletes a one-time transfer to another IHSAA member school and maintain full athletic eligibility, as long as the transfer occurs during their first six semesters of high school. This change, effective June 1, 2025, aims to streamline the transfer process and address concerns about school choice. Indiana Education applies to athletes only and not the entire student population…..and brings into more questions about high school recruiting (which has already happened in the past whether legal or not)….. will pay for play and or financial perks/benefits (high school NIL) be in its future. (point is that athletes given preferential treatment vs rest of high school student population…who may have in their own individual minds valid reasons for streamlined transfer to another school).

I was able to read article fine. It basically says what one would already know to a large extent with observations from the season and thereafter in total. I do think if IU is going to turn things upward in a large way (T. Moren acknowledges the type of players needed in recruiting). And Colston Thompson seems to be a major upgrade added to the IU Ladies coaching staff. Additionally, L. Beaumont is a good player and T. Moren continues to talk about as last season how good she is and importance to the team. She is definitely important….but are the high expectations grasping for straws or what will become reality? T. Moren noted the new players were dissatisfied with their previous program. That could be said for IU Ladies and even coaches as well. This IU Ladies team seems to be constructed as somewhat a Rag Tag team of players with something and things to prove. Sometimes Rag Tag just works out.

My ignorance about how the nuts and bolts and how NIL works from programs to programs 1. Did IU give the men’s 2024-2025 basketball program under the previous coach, players and coaches all with major big egos so much of NIL creating conflict with the IU Ladies Basketball program leaving IU Ladies in NIL poverty? Several Ladies basketball programs of other schools have been recruiting at a significantly higher level than IU to this point in time…..and many of those schools should not be. 2. I assume NIL only applies in a significant way to major power conferences…..Mid major not much…..and small colleges not at all. NIL Revenue vs House by July 1st is still somewhat in limbo…. that will be determined or not determined clearly or vaguely or somewhat clearly or somewhat vaguely.

Janiyah Hargrave 2028, Fairmont H.S. Ohio 5’9” can be added to IU Ladies list of players being recruited. Did not make under 16 USA roster but has solid stats for 2024-2025. 25 games 17.1 points 7.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists

Bargesser signs with IU Ladies in high school (quick and fast athletic). Then seriously injured leg keeping her out her senior year of high school and did compete towards end of track season…but not as fast (and quick). This set her back a couple years in college basketball (especially at big ten level). Her dedication and determination and hard work led by IU Ladies program allowed her to compete and return (maybe not quite the player she might have been before senior high school injury)….competing for starting position but definitely would have played alot. Knowing IU system and her dedication and hard work may have made her take a good step forward.

Or currently not being able to land a significant impact player from transfer portal or wherever.
-
Disagree. They have not found greener pastures. And from time perspective all but Curry-Jelks and LaMendola when careers are completed most time of players careers will be completed and defined at IU. (not only time wise but it may even prove out statistically….give or take a little but not much change). Except for Garzon the others went to lesser programs.

(2026 IUWBB) - GiGi Battle
TTT replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Women's Basketball
A decent player 4 star at 93 per ESPN rating….another developmental player same as (Spreen, Lamendola, Beaumont, Bargesser) and don’t think Moore-McNeil was rated that high in high school though was often referred to as best player on the floor. -
6’0” Guard 21.5 points per game. 5.6 rebounds. 4.3 assists. 3.7 steals. As a freshman. McCutcheon 21-5 overall with 8-0 conference record. Throw her in the mix for IU Ladies Basketball future. 2027 will be here as time flies by.

There are many names on the recruiting trail for IU Ladies basketball that have been offered scholarships/NIL by IU for the next few years. Currently, it basically means that IU Ladies will be on the top 25 to 50 list of schools for each recruit. (exceptions are for schools like LSU, UCONN, and SC and some others…who most always have a much higher percentage to get recruits they target or really want). IU Ladies need the revamped recruiting strategy to pay dividends.

Does Bargesser, Garzon, Meister, Currie-Jelks, Lamendola, Sandvik, upon graduation from their respective schools sign that State of Indiana wall hanging in IU Ladies locker room….. are or will those players be welcomed back???

NCAA Women's Bball Transfer Portal
TTT replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Women's Basketball
Well, as the portal winds down is there any other player out there for IU Ladies? And it was stated 1. IU Ladies wanted to become more athletic and 2. IU Ladies wanted to become bigger and more physical. 3. IU Ladies wanted players that fit and from winning programs. These three things they wanted to accomplish in the transfer portal along with incoming freshman and what is left of current team that stayed at IU. Conclusion: IU Ladies accomplished a little bit in the transfer portal. Underwhelming Rag Tag Team. Recently posted 25 and 10. Looks like impossibility that would require many big ten wins and tournament including deep March Madness run to get to 35 games. or Recently posted 10 and 25. Another impossibility because it means you would have miserable season somehow slipping into big ten tournament and winning national champion ship…. those numbers don’t add up to get to 35 games. -
Good point. And it depends on how much she financially continues to grow, not that she would be the biggest contributor but I think she seems like the kind of person that would be involved.
-
Wonder how much Caitlin Clark Iowa/Indiana Fever is now or will be involved with participating in Iowa women basketball NIL financially?
