IUPUI FINALLY WINS A BASKETBALL GAME!!!

IU's gonna get Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Michigan State, USC, Oregon, Clemson, and Virginia Tech every freaking year.

With every loss, the risk of getting shunted to the damn NIT gets more and more likely. I know there are players that are doing their best on this team, but as a whole, there just isn't a lot of effort in trying.

You know that "King of the Hill" episode where the track and field coach was punishing the players for misconduct or poor grades by letting Bobby Hill race, calling Bobby "the stick"? I think Childress is Woodson's "stick", and Duncomb got punished.

I know they're good, I just am so accustomed to Northwestern being, you know... Northwestern. Hopefully the boys have learned their lesson.

One minor observation, and forgive me for being "that guy", but I think it says something about Nathan Childress that, even with seven players, he barely got any time. I know he's the textbook definition of "benchwarmer" and he's not any good (this year, he finally made a basket!), but I thought he would get a few minutes in the rotation to avoid tiring out the remaining players Woodson had on hand.

We were shorthanded and... I can't excuse it, though. We had to beat Northwestern. The next three games are against teams in the Top 25, and given Indiana's historical failures in the Big Ten Tournament, we really need to make a case during conference play. I really don't want to go to the Not Invited Tournament.

This is grim, even for the Jags.

Faculty, in general, tend to not care about athletics as they believe sports get too much money or attention at universities as it is, often at the detriment of other programs. But the student population thinking it's a bad move should have been more telling, as they likely read it as "we're raising tuition and putting a bigger focus on sports, even though this is all uncertain and may not pan out".

Going up to D-I requires a lot of investments and clearly does not have immediate returns. Southern Indiana may have had a lot of success in men's basketball, but who's to say they won't be the next IUPUI or Houston Baptist in D-I? Not to mention... how many damn schools are there in D-I? If we gave D-II or even D-III schools a fairer media deal and recognition in which their existence is acknowledged beyond "well, what schools can we replace?", then I think there wouldn't be this endless desire by schools to constantly rush up to D-I. However, it also boils down to conference realignment, as conferences keep taking schools, and the lesser ones need replacements. It also affects UIndy as it leaves them the only D-II school in the state.

IUPUI is very grim this year, even for them. Currently, they only have seven players on their entire roster who can dress, and six that are available to play. One or two more injuries would be enough to cause them to forfeit the rest of the season. Doesn't help that their only two wins are against Spalding, a D-III school that KenPom was gracious enough to give them (but the NCAA still doesn't count in their NET rankings) and East-West, a school that... exists, but only plays one sport (so that win definitely will not count). Sometimes I wonder if IUPUI should even have athletics. The women's team is trying, but the school doesn't care.

Northwestern is doable, but we would have to beat a ranked team.
