I actually think that is what we should expect and I think it will happen.

I just want to point out that teams get better as a season goes on or should get better. This is a new coaching staff trying to put their system in place. We will have ups and downs but I do believe this team will get better. They may not win Thursday, they may not win the B10, they may not win the B10 tournament, and all those are likely scenarios; however, they will improve and continue to compete in their remaining games. Take the 81 championship team, and don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to compare this teams personnel and outcome to their season to this current team. This team had an overall record of 26-9, not bad. But during their non conference season, they went 7-5 and got beat by Texas Rio Grand Valley their last nonconference game just before the B10 season and they totally dropped out of the top 20 rankings. The players decided to have a team meeting and they finally started pulling in the same direction and went 14-4 to win the B10 and National Title. My point is, give this coaching staff and team time to gel before all the armchair coaches start criticizing. I hope the point guard position is the one that improves the fastest, they are killing us!

I’ve been watching IU basketball for 46 years and there hasn’t been any. I would say Landon Turner was in his early years but not near X, not even close

I would say nice win but that would not be true. We tried to give that game to Nebraska. I have no confidence that our point guard play will improve. X spent more time dusting the floor and Phinesee was trying his best to dribble the air out of the ball. Those two should never see the floor the rest of the season, if I were the coach. TJD was awesome until he got hurt. I sure hope he can play in our next game or we won’t have a chance. I can’t for the life of me figure out why he can’t hit free throws. JG earned more minutes! He played great. Galloway played decent. Race was good

Just pointing this out, don’t you mean 2021 for last year and 2022 for this year? I am assuming you are comparing this years team to last years team.

Galloway should be running point instead of X and Phinesee. That is the best and most primary move CMW should make, even if he doesn’t make any others.

I actually like it! What would our record be if you swapped Phinesee for X? I’m actually surprised CMW and staff hasn’t went to that rotation! To me, it makes sense. I also noticed no Durr, he’ll have to play some time because he’s a 7 footer, although he doesn’t play like one

And they are inconsistent for reason. To me, most fans expectations aren’t realistic and fair. Yes we are all tired of losing but to just think things will change significantly after 16 games, with a roster with most of the games players were recruited and played for a different with a different system and a different culture, is way too high of expectations. Trust me, I’ve witnessed the two best teams in IU history, watched the 1981 lose their share of games before Landon Turner decided to get his head out of his behind and play, and not to mention the 87 team lose their share of games before Dean Garrett and Keith Smart finally started to gel with the team chemistry. Yes, those last two teams had their share of issues, and the primary issue was team chemistry and players accepting their. I think everyone needs to take a step back and be a little patient with this team and coahes.

The key thing here is this team still has most of those players and it maybe that things won’t overly improve until CMW can have a chance to coach players for more than 16 games. I say let’s give him and his staff a chance!

I agree with everything you said. He had to recruit the existing players so he’s not having to totally revamp the roster. The main problem is these players played for and recruited by the previous coaching staff with that type of culture and playing habits embedded in them. Not only is CMW trying to undo all that, he is trying to install good fundamentals, his culture and playing habits on the way he wants them to play. The D seems better, we had 3 games in a row with less than 10 turnovers before we had a setback at Iowa, our 3 point shooting has improved, and I think team leadership has improved. The only thing that hasn’t seem to improve from the previous coaching staff is free throw shooting and I think that will improve too, maybe not this year but it will improve. We just need to be patient and give him at least 3 full years. I think he has done an admirable job so far. I don’t know what everyone was expecting but I think those expectations were slightly too high. I think the only expectations we should have is making the tournament this year, anything else above that is a bonus!

We will, give CMW. It’s his first year with a roster with holdovers from the previous coaching staff. Also, it will take time to change the culture. We should expect to make tournament but anything above that will be a bonus, IMO. And yes, we have a more talented roster than Syracuse, Wisky, Penn State and possibly Iowa.

I agree, CMW offense isn’t structured to fit his current lineup and your lineup with the current players makes sense but I would be concerned with rebounding. Kopp is not a good rebounder at all and the other players are guards. You are correct, Geronimo will be the one guy on this roster that’s the best player to play the 4. Because we have holdovers from the previous coaching staff, the roster construction was limited. I believe help is on the way.

I mean it was less 5 minutes to play and we were right there to have that chance to swing momentum back but instead made a few more bad plays over the next couple minutes it totally got away from us by then. I think any time you are on the road and you are within 2 possessions, you have that chance to swing momentum and take back control of the game! I still think we were better than those 4 teams but didn’t make the plays

After reading this question, I wanted to answer it first before I read the others comments from their posts. I for one agree with you, everything is fixable and we have been right there with a chance to win those 4 road loses. I for one believe in CMW and staff will get this straightened out and we will see a different team by mid-February and March. This is a new staff and they are trying to undo the embedded mind set and culture of the current players and that takes time; however, we as a fanbase have done without consistently winning for so long, we have little to no patients. I think we are just waiting for this thing to go off the rails just like the last several seasons, each just may be the start of this trend. The last 4-6 years and even longer has really left a bad taste in our mouths that may take years to undo, just like what CMW has to do with reshaping the program and culture. What it comes down to is a total lack of trust that the current Administration and coaching staff will get it done. Not to mention we want to start winning now! I do think CMW and company will get it done, we just have to trust him and show patients. Actually, this was a very good question and I am glad someone had finally asked it!

I think that’s putting it mildly! Besides bald and a heart attack he is the most annoying player who was supposed to make a high impact. He’s worse, he’s nails on a chalkboard!

I think this inconsistency we’ve had this year is all because of our inconsistency with our point guard play. I don’t trust X either! He has a low basketball IQ, he seems to have multiple personalities in the floor, especially when a call doesn’t go his way or an opposing player gets physical with him and he loses his focus and mind. Honestly, I would rather see Galloway at the point, Phinesee coming off the bench and X sitting at the end of the bench with Lander. Matter of fact, Lander should see the floor before X.

Unless CMW makes some uncomfortable but necessary changes, this Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde team will continue.
