I agree. 1975 Indiana, 1991 UNLV and 2015 Kentucky are great examples of that. Purdue - under the right circumstances - could have won a title last year. But, again, that roster makeup relies on certain matchups for success. And the deeper they would go in the tournament, the greater chance of have Smith, Loyer and Morton being a matchup liability would have grown substantially. And Purdue never had consistent 3-pt shooting to help overcome the lack of athleticism (32.2% as a team; Smith best at 37%). Purdue was good - and, if EVERYTHING was clicking, they could be really good. But in their roster makeup and skill level there was just too much to overcome to win a championship. Possible? Maybe. Likely? No.

Your fallacy is considering Purdue “arguably the best team in the nation.” That’s not Boiler hate talking, either. Purdue was going to end up losing at some point in the tournament because of the three positions I mentioned earlier - Morton, Loyer, and Smith. The total lack of athleticism and ability to cover would require another great athlete to go along with Edey down low - and they just don’t have it. FDU out-quicked them, but it was only a matter of time before somebody would be able to match up enough with Edey down low to be able to exploit the rest of the team.
-
Look who Jordy had around him. Then look at who Loyer has around him. Sure, he has Edey down low defensively, which allows him to apply pressure a bit more. But besides Edey, the Boilers had Mason Gilles, Braden Smith, and Ethan Morton. Compare that trio to C-Wat, Vic and Yogi. THAT lack of athleticism is exactly why the Boilers lost to FDU. And Loyer - while a good player - doesn’t have that physical ability. Which is WHY he doesn’t belong in the top 100.

Unbelievable amount of arrogance - I’m sure he was singing Liam’s praises up until he finds out he’s likely going to IU. Then (in his eyes) he says not a good fit, not athletic enough, etc . . . I don’t know if recruits ever read message boards, but that would piss me off if I’m Liam. -

https://247sports.com/college/kansas/board/103719/Contents/2024-recruits-188144063/?page=46#M216422778 I don’t know 100% that McNeeley is coming (like 99.9999999999999999%), but the pre-meltdown rationalizing on the Kansas board is hilarious. Woody is in their heads 24/7/365. -

This is the article I read: https://www.press-citizen.com/story/news/local/2023/09/12/jack-mccaffery-found-guilty-of-failure-to-yield-to-pedestrian-in-fatal-accident-iowa-basketball/70833068007/ “Mr. McCaffery’s failure to approach the crosswalk with care, either by slowing down and/or stopping when approaching the crosswalk in such a way to be able to avoid any contact with a pedestrian lawfully within the crosswalk, indicates that Mr. McCaffery failed to meet the requirements of a reasonable driver in such a situation,” Neary wrote. ”failed to meet the requirements” - this is what I was referring to. It doesn’t say “cautious enough”, but (to me, anyways) it truly seems to allude that. Hell, I’m 60 now and that could happen under the same circumstances - imagine being 17 and that happening? Unbelievably tragic.

People are going to love this kid -
I was thinking the same thing when reading about this. Regardless of any punishment from the law, he has to live with this EVERY SINGLE DAY for the rest of his life. And all this for not having more caution to his driving at seventeen years old - something that ANY of us could have had happen to us. Said a prayer this morning of thanks for this never happening to me, because it easily could have. The McCaffrey family are in my prayers. Hopefully they are in everyone else’s prayers as well. Horrible, life-changing tragedy.

As Woody himself said, “We deserve to sit at the table”. If Kansas, Duke, UK and the like are after kids we’re recruiting, you know that we’re doing it right. -

I’m good with that. Did he follow Cuban back? EDIT - here’s another thought: as much as you want a young man to respect commitments made, IF you had an outstanding visit to a school and you know it’s for you, you’re also not respecting the other school by going on the visit; they’d be better off knowing you are going elsewhere and can focus their efforts/energy on other prospects. -

Exactly. Coach Holtz says it best.

Gotta agree with you there. Even if he’s only making $200k - how about the people working 6-7 days at jobs physically demanding/exhausting (steel mills, tire factories, etc)? How about single parents that work 2, sometimes 3 jobs just trying to make ends meet? Listen, he may have a point in that if things don’t change people will leave the profession. So be it - and, if that occurs, market forces will either change the situation or eliminate it.

Tennessee/UNC ought to be good as well.
