He’s there to introduce Woodson to AAU and HS coaches. -

Because that’s a recruiting 1-2 punch. HC with NBA playing and coaching experience and AHC with top-level recruiting experience in the mid-west. -

I would have to think that if BS wasn’t on that plane to BOS, we would know that. -

They have better coaching trees. We don’t have a Roy Williams or a Bill Self chomping at the bit to come home. Duke is in a similar spot. All of their former players have flamed out as college coaches and they will be in a bind when K retires. -

There aren’t that many instances of a coach leaving a P5 program at which he was currently successful unless he has historical or personal ties to the destination the NCAA is about to bring the hammer down -

There were a lot more leaks. A lot of people wanted Crean when we hired Sampson. I remember back when RMK was fired. I discovered Peegs back then because I just had to know. Everyone was just sure that Pitino was coming. He was the BS of that search. When we hired Crean, people were just absolutely sure that Izzo was unhappy at MSU and ready to come to Bloomington. We’re nothing if not consistent in our delusions. -

Oh yeah, his termination was fully justified. If it was just the losing, I would have wanted him to be given another year or two to turn it around. But he lost that team this year. A coach can’t recover from that. -

They do that with professorships and departments chairs all the time. it’s called an endowed line. But of course in those cases the money is never that silly. -

UC is not an easy job. The fans here (I live in Cincinnati) still haven’t gotten over Huggy’s dismissal. Cronin was never good enough. -

No doubt. It was a huge risk. Fife would be an even bigger one at IU because our program is such a dumpster fire right now. My point is that when evaluating assistants, the key thing is who they coached with not just the fact that they did it. -

Juwan Howard coached for the best coach in the sport for 5 years before going to UM. That’s why I like Fife among the IU guys. -

What I can say that I don’t want is a coach chosen to overperformance of a mid-major in this tournament. I think the smaller schools are benefiting from two huge factors: Small number of fans levels the playing field a lot. Big schools get an almost home court advantage in early round games is usual years Bad NBA draft class. We know this because UK and Duke sucked. When the draft class is bad, veteran well-coached teams can overcome the talent advantage.
