Maybe he gave Archie control of his Twitter account...
-
I thought you guys were overreacting, but at this point, he's just a Twitter troll. The lack of professionalism is stagering.
-
Or, the Big 12, or the ACC, or even the SEC. They would have lost a road game to Alabama or Arkansas this year.

Remember when Recker came in wearing an Iowa uniform?

Yet more proof that Mike Woodson knows how to talk to these kids parents.
-
Based on that and TJD's quotes on his process, Woody is good at talking to parents.

Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff

Meriweather? -
It was always going to be Hubert Davis. That's why he stayed there as an assistant for so long. If public reports are correct, they didn't even reach out to anyone outside of the Carolina family. I have respect for that, but I wonder if UNC can work as ones first head coaching gig. He's never even led a high school program before. But he may have been practically coaching that team for the past few years for all we know.

It could also be just that the majority of his recruiting contacts are in the south/southwest and that it is easier to get kids from there to Norman than to Bloomington. -

In the NBA, you don't usually do that. You try to get as much BB knowledge on the bench and to get guys that fill a role that you don't. I just went and looked at Frank Vogel's staff in L.A. He has two high-profile former head coaches in Jason Kidd and Lionel Hollins and a guy who was an assistant in Cleveland with LeBron in Phil Handy. Archie brought in a bunch of guys from Dayton, thinking that what worked there would transfer to the P5 level. Woody is trying to get guys that compensate for his deficiencies in recruiting contacts. -
It's because Boeheim is against NIL payment. Says that the NCAA is ditching amateurism to benefit 50 guys while 3,950 players are happy to be getting a free education. Syracuse fans see everything through a Boeheim lens. https://www.nunesmagician.com/2019/10/30/20939468/jim-boeheim-syracuse-orange-ncaa-name-image-likeness-vote-profit-pay-college-sports-basketball-buddy

Remember, these players all know each other from AAU and afaik there is nothing stopping them from recruiting each other in informal conversations via text and social media. It’s like in the NBA. There are all sorts of rules about when GMs can contact free agents, but there is no way to stop players coordinating to make super teams.

For anyone in the Cincinnati TV market, they are showing the 1961 national championship game. Ohio State has a player by the name of Bob Knight. Wonder what became of him.

CBB: Roy Williams Retires from UNC

College basketball is getting free agency. https://www.si.com/college/2021/04/01/ncaa-transfer-rule-change-no-penalty -
Coaches will have to re-recruit their own players in addition to recruiting high school students players.
-
There’s an article in SI this morning that says that the NCAA is about to adopt this transfer rule permanently. So this is the new norm. This is terrible for coaches. If you don’t give a freshman his minutes, even if he doesn’t earn them in practice, he’ll just transfer. It’s bad for us too. But it is great for the players. They’ll collaborate with top players they know from AAU to form super teams.

I’m with you on Muss, but Oats is a rising star in the game. I think Alabama will be his last college job. Not because he’ll stay there 30 years, but because his analytics approach will lure some NBA GM. I’m thinking his future is with the Houston Rockets. -
I know Duncomb meant it as a compliment, but this is the first thing that I’ve heard about Woodson since his hiring that makes me concerned. These kids are used to being told what they want to hear from a young age. As soon as they show any promise, AAU programs start recruiting them and promising them the world and telling them that they are already a perfect player. Now Woody comes along and says “you need to work on x, y, and z to even play at the college level.” There’s a reason that car salesmen lie to people.

Maybe, but he has no HC experience at any level. They should go with Stackhouse. -
In the 80's and 90's, NBA refs didn't T guys up for saying things. If they did, Bird and Jordan would have never finished a game. BTW, I not really arguing that what he did was OK. It was especially bad because with no fans in the arena everybody could hear every word.
-
Maybe it's different in college, but this whole discussion sent me to YouTube to watch Reggie Miller give Spike Lee the choke sign in '94. Also, Indiana's favorite son Larry Bird was a world-class trash talker. He would hit a shot and mouth off to the other team's coach.

They were already on their way into the wilderness during the Matt Doherty era, but they had an alum in Roy that they could lure back with a mixture of loyalty and big bucks. It was just our bad luck that none of the Knight-era players or assistants went on to be successful college coaches. -

Isn't Hubert Davis considered the "coach in waiting" there? -
Mike Woodson to be next IUBB coach. Thad Matta to be associate AD

That was actually really funny. The thought crossed my mind that Woody might regret the move just due to the pizza.
