DWB replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Can anybody enlighten me on what the actual game plan was? On offense, I haven't noticed one change in the offensive sets for ¾ of the season now. We're running the same predictable stuff that we did in the early part of the season. I hate to say this, cause I REALLY want to support Woodson, but I think he's too accustomed to loosing in the pros. And he doesn't seem to have the fire in the belly like Izzo, Peikle, crazy McCaffery, and others in the league, not to mention Auburn, Kansas, et al. -

Agreed. But...if it's not more fluid, we'll be bringing up the rear of the B1G next year. -
If CMW starts the "regulars" for the MSU game, he's not near as smart as I thought he was. Even Stevie Wonder can see that Galloway far exceeds overall contributions to the team over Kopp & Stewart (maybe combined).

I'm not convinced Gallo will start, even though it's a slam dunk in my book he should. But Woody has his stubborn streak, just like Archie did. -
IMO, I'll be amazed if EITHER Durr on Duncomb are back next year. But we need either a wide body 747 in the middle or 3 more 6'-8" guys like Race or Trayce that can shoot from outside. I think Race is back, Trayce is a toss up. I like the guards that are coming in to compliment Bates, Gallo, KL.

Not much to figure out. "These are the rules which we live by. Break them, you pay the price, follow them, no worries". It gains respect, and long term kids know the guy doesn't have "favorites", and is fair and balanced. One game sit-out is pretty mild. The fact that he had the kahunas to sit 5 guys at once is the REAL message. -
I like who he's going after for the future as well. I just think if he'd use the bench as a motivator we might see some faster pace, and better ball movement. We got it in the NW game, but ran out of gas with 6 players. Gallo doesn't know how to dial it down. He's "all ahead frantic" all the time. And I love that about him

Agreed. Until I see 40 minutes of effort at ¾ throttle, we'll continue to get our a$$es handed to us. So far I haven't seen more than 1-2 games where we played one complete half at ¾ throttle, much less full throttle. NW game was as close as I've seen. -
I'm not concerned about "teams" that impress me, but rather the "style of ball" that a team plays in part, or whole. I like Wisky's toughness, I love the hustle of Rutgers, I like the rebounding effort of MSU, I like seeing a team move the ball with pace. I don't see any of these traits consistently...with our current team. I don't watch a lot of BBall outside of the B1G. A little KY, because they play so fast, but that's about it.

If the last 2 games are any indication, the ones dressed in green/white will have the fire in their step. -

Not a 100% of the time, but more often than not. Parts of my family were in the military, and it's obvious from the behavior of their kids who was, and who wasn't military. But even so....Bates has always come across as a level headed kid, with his act together. Did he just get caught up in the moment, or is it a pattern. We'll never know probably. I just was more surprised by him being one of the Fab 5. -

Aren't Bates' parents ex-military? I know one or both or teachers of some sort now, but I thought they were ex military at one point in time. If so...that makes Bates' behavior even more strange to me. He grew up in a disciplined family. But then again, maybe he's a wild child like a preacher's daughter. Doesn't come across that way publicly, but you never know. Hope this is a very good learning experience for all of them. Just hope Woody doesn't blink, and give PS & X their starting jobs back automatically. -

Agreed, but he's also the designated "5" on the team. And the sets are run for him to play in the lane. I'm not sure he's capable of playing a stretch 4, because we haven't seen his "outside" game (if he has one). It would be interesting to see Race @ the 5, but too late in the season for that I think. I also think there's better than a 50/50 chance that we see TJD back at IU next year. -

Being old school (and just old as well) I really appreciate Woody's decision. Actions have consequences in life, not just basketball. What really got my attention was Woody's presser at the end when he said that if guys don't want to be proud of the uniform and the school on, and off, the court then they "need to go". I don't think Woody is messing around, and playing head games. I think he's brutally honest and communicates his expectations. So proud of the guys who played their butts off. Hope Woody makes the "Fab 5" earn their way back to the rotation, and starting positions are not automatically given. -

If....if...Leal & Gallo do a really good job tonite, I hope that Woody makes those suspended "earn" their way back into the starting line up. -

I could be wrong, but based on who's starting, I think KL is one of those suspended. -

Fisch just said there is "News of the day" that we won't like. Hasn't elaborated yet, but sounds like it's true on 1 or more of the guys not being available for the game. -
