2023 General Recruiting Thread (BBall)
IU Scott replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Agree to disagree on TJD because I see no way a ayer like him will play 5 full years of college basketball. Also in his interview he said this is his last season at IU. I am not that high on Geronimo and only seen a few flashes of really good play from him. -

For the 23-24 year I would like to see this starting lineup. JHS. Bates. Newton. Banks. Reneau -

Don't see TJD coming back for a 5th year because he played his 4 years and also will have his degree. -

I see no step back at all. I think by the time Newton gets to IU he will be a top 50 recruit and Cupp will be in the 90's. Also there is plenty of time until the 23 class sets foot on campus and a lot can change. This time last year we never thought we would have Reneau in this class so it is way to early to make a judgment on the 23 class. Two years in a row we got a top 30 recruit in the spring from guys you decommitted from other schools (Bates and Reneau). -

TJD won't be replaced by a freshman but Reneau who is a top 30 recruit. -
I think we beat OSU by 13 or 15 points at home

The talk is the power 6 will split away from the rest of the conferences and those teams will make up the tournament leaving out the rest of them.
-
Bart Torvick has IU #11
-
For me what makes the tournament is the Cinderella teams making a huge upset. If you totally take those programs away from the tournament then I think the popularity of it goes away down. If you only have power 6 teams in the tournament the first and second round games will not be as exciting.
-
I am still concerned where college basketball will be in 5 years. On DD show he had coach Greensburg on and he feels in the next 5-10 years that the tournament will be a lot different. I guess it will just be the power 6 conferences which will be a huge disaster for it's popularity.

That is a huge blow to MSU, if Diabate and Houstan stays in the draft then the big ten can be ours to win. That is if TJD comes back.

I would be more worried about Nike money and Oregon -
I remember watching one of our old games from like 83 and at that time we were like 102-9 at home. Also in the 90's we won like 53 straight games at home and that was against a tough big ten conference

More than a few phone calls since we had drug dealers and pimps on those teams.

For all sports. Don't mind it for football but would have it for basketball. Totally would ruin the tournament

If you filled the spot then TJD comes back then what? They might know but I doubt TJD had made up his mind yet.

Where did you here this

It is not the NIL that is causing the problem but the blatant cheating and tampering that is going on. There have been reports that USC has tampered with a WR at Pitt. It has been rumored USC has offered 3 mil and w house which is not legal. What happened today? The WT from Pitt is in the portal.
-
For me I wish the NCAA would have tried to stop the cheating instead of just throwing their hands up and say everyone can just cheat. 20 years ago the NCAA should have grown a pair and put their foot down. They needed to work with the NBA and work it out that players go straight to the NBA or if they go to college they had to stay in 3 years. It seemed to work well in baseball so it could on basketball as well. It would have allowed the kids who only cared about money and going to the NBA go pro. It would have kept them out of the college game where they didn't want to be in the first place. Second they needed to actually enforce the rules and have harsh punishments for rule breakers. 1) If a program gets caught with level 1 infractions they get 3 years probation which includes 3 years of post season ban. Second offense they get the death penalty and couldn't apply for reinstatement for 5 years 2) A coach gets caught with a level 1 infraction loses his job with a 5 year show clause. The second offense would result in a lifetime ban from coaching college basketball. They should have just put me on charge and we could have still have the college game we use to live.

Very well said and feel the same way. For me if they want to get paid then go play professionally some where. Leave the college game for players who actually wants to play for your program and get an education.
-
Don't fear progress if it is for the good but what is happening to the college game is not fir the better.

Didn't like getting recruited over. I thought Collins was going to be very good next year. I am interested in seeing what Diabate and Houstan decides to do. If those two come back I think UM will be the favorite for the big ten.
