IUHoosierJoe replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Women's Basketball
The Big 10 has 6 of the top 28 teams in the NET rankings as of today (Indiana #10, Nebraska #12, Maryland #18, Michigan #21, Ohio State #26, and Iowa #28). It's not quite the best conference in the country, but it's far from "mediocre." -

I'll miss you here on Christmas Eve while you're outside booing Santa Claus. -
December 12, 1986: After leading by 14 at halftime, Indiana survives a last-second shot attempt and holds on to beat North Carolina-Wilmington 73-72 to advance to the championship game of the “Indiana Classic.” That Indiana team would go on to win the 1987 National Championship. It happens to the best of them.

Mike Woodson to be next IUBB coach. Thad Matta to be associate AD

Perhaps Steve Alford is our Scott Frost, and Nebraska doesn’t have a Mike Woodson. -

Illinois is gonna suck this year.

First, probably 98% of college sports teams have player names on the back of the jerseys. So I would argue the "infatuation" is with those who don't want them on. I am one of the "old guys." I am 55 and have a son who may within a year or two be a recruited athlete. I'm not sure how Indiana would convince him they are at the forefront of NIL while also telling him his name won't even be allowed on the back of his jersey. Look, I understand the "tradition" of not having player names on jerseys. But I would argue that the "tradition" was actually just a coaching tool of one coach. Other coaches have different coaching tools. For example, Terry Hoeppner's coaching tool was to put names on the jerseys because "you play for the name on the front of the jersey and you are accountable for the name on the back." I just think with all the changes coming, for the good of the program as a whole, it's time to rethink this outdated "tradition."

I'm all for it, and with players' names on the back.

It's just a shame Woodson can't recruit, lol. -
I'm guessing the IU-Arizona series is off the table.

This is a transcript of Woodson's Zoom interview with Bozich, Kravitz, and Doyel. Indiana basketball's Mike Woodson talks family, Hoosiers' struggles, Bob Knight, apartment living | Sports | wdrb.com -
I see 3 possible ways the staff could have dealt with Joey Brunk: A: Tell him he's not welcome anymore; B: Tell him they appreciate his work ethic and leadership and they want him to stay, but they only see him getting 5-10 minutes per game and leave the decision to him; C: Lie to him and "promise" him 25-30 minutes per game, but then only play him 5-10 minutes. B is by far the best, most honest, ethical option, in my opinion. And you're saying that's what they did. I'm good with that. Further, I would argue that C is worse than A.

Many people also think kids are going to leave a place they love because they aren't starting or getting a lot of minutes. Some kids have different priorities, and not everyone on a roster can start. -
Indiana and Notre Dame schedule home and home series in 2030/2031
IUHoosierJoe replied to southsidehoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I thought Notre Dame was originally supposed to return the 1991 game we played in South Bend and got out of it somehow. But it's been a while ago, so I could be wrong. -

I'm not sure that many kids are going to stay at a school more than 1 or 2 years the way the rules are now.

Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff
IUHoosierJoe replied to Hoosierfan1901's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Smith committed to Alabama while Rosemond was an assistant coach there under Avery Johnson. When Nate Oats took over, he didn't retain Rosemond, so Smith decommitted from Alabama and eventually signed with Auburn. -
He's played for more teams than Larry Brown has coached.

Only if you're inherently a pessimist.

Not disagreeing with you, but I also think we're returning to an era when it is going to take something in addition to talent to be an Indiana player. For years, we have wanted players who play with passion and understand what it means to wear the Indiana jersey. Before the players can understand that, the coaches have to understand it. Now we have coaches who understand it. And I think the coaches will decide that not every talented player is necessarily a good fit as an Indiana player if they're not going to buy in.
