No doubt. I’m not completely convinced he’d win big first year, especially given what he’s probably going to be left with, and winning big early would be his main advantage over hiring a guy like Dusty. And if he was going on 53 instead of 63, I don’t even think I’d care about that.

Ok. I get that you guys love to argue. I said I’d take either Pearl or May. Pluses and minuses to both, I said. But I still wish you guys that know the future with such certainty would share the Power Ball numbers with me sometime.

I’m not the one moving the goal posts. You said “win immediately” and now you’ve changed it to “first five years.” I have no doubt Pearl would have it humming after five years.

Love Oates. No idea if there would be any chance to get him here. I would think we would have tried before we hired Woodson.

Well, Indiana has a winning record right now, if that’s your bar for what was termed in the post I responded to as “winning immediately.” I mean, May has never had a losing season at a school that had almost all losing seasons before he got there. I’d take both over what we have, and there’s pluses and minuses to both.

Nothing beyond the Sweet 16 until year 5 at his P5 stops is “killing it?” Not for this fan base. Don’t get me wrong, I’d be OK with Pearl at this point, but he didn’t get deep in the tourney any faster than Dusty did at a low major.

I'd love that too, but Pearl hasn't won immediately anywhere he's been, so it's hard for me to just assume that he'd do it here.

Heartbreaking loss for sure, but they’re showing they can compete with the best teams in the country.

Can’t help but notice “coached” is in past tense. Does that mean he is done coaching it?

Just saw that William Inge decided not to follow DeBoer to Alabama after all. Going to be LB coach at Tennessee instead.

No, I absolutely wouldn't, because I understand the situations they went into. Just looking at numbers doesn't come close to fully evaluating the two.

Wonder if these are the same sources that told him Edey was in the transfer portal.

I think May and Fife are friends, but loyalty is something any head coach needs in an assistant. Probably going to be tough for Fife to get an assistant job anywhere.

Also, the athletic department lost around $65 million during the Covid year. So the $5 million surplus didn’t just happen in a vacuum.

Will never forget his quotes and how in awe he was of our team after we absolutely routed one of his best Maryland teams in the second round of the 1981 NCAA Tournament: "They were the best team I've played since I got my program going. Nobody's beat us like that. If they were playing the 76ers today, they would have beat the 76ers. There's nothing I can say but congratulations. I hope they win the national championship." And of course, we did.

That’s actually an interesting question. There is no mandatory retirement age for state employees in general. However, back in 2001, AD Clarence Doninger was forced into retirement because he reached IU’s mandatory retirement age of 65. Now, I don’t know who all that policy applied to, if it was just for administrators and not coaches, or if the policy still exists at all now. But it is interesting nonetheless, and maybe someone else knows for sure…
