Technically, I think the contracts normally state that the coach breaking the contract owes the buyout, but the hiring university almost always agrees to pay it. So, I’d assume anyone could pay it, as long as it gets paid.

I agree his intentions were good at the beginning. But three seasons into this, he has to know that he either can't or doesn't want to do what's required of the job, particularly in recruiting, which would result in anything but a further flushing of this program down the drain. So, him continuing after this season in the job, with this, let's say, lack of effort, would cause me to think much differently as to his what his intentions are now.

And regardless of what you think of Rabby, Rabby wouldn’t have put it out there without assurances that it was factual.

If I’m Dusty I’m not going anywhere near that job with someone—even if it’s LeBron—thinking they are going to be pulling strings. Sounds an awful lot like being an athletic director and having a trustee thinking he can do my job. No thanks.

You might be amazed what people are swayed by. That’s why we have literally thousands of media outlets pushing agendas. It’s legitimately a strategy.

And I don’t believe anybody is completely risk free. You can poke holes in anybody’s resume, although the holes in Pearl’s would be very small.

Agree. Woodson should have been told it was a condition of him getting the job that he would accept the structure put in place around him.

What else it would take? …. some people expect him to do it again, or even a couple more times, which I think is pretty unrealistic at Florida Atlantic. I was looking at the rosters in their conference the other day. Out of 14 teams, seven teams have at least one RSCI top 100 player on their roster. Memphis has four. Florida Atlantic is one of the seven without any. So, I would argue that he’s an incredible coach. If there is anything left to prove, perhaps it’s whether he can recruit at a higher level.

It also doesn’t help his legacy that he hired Woodson, even if he was talked or forced into it. So I’m sure he’s feeling pressure that the next hire has to be the grand slam.

So, in your opinion, why did they play harder last night? Or, in the alternative, why does it appear they gave less than their best effort for the 27 games before last night?

I’d take Dusty now, but an excellent argument can certainly be made that what you are saying, if it would work out, could be even better.

I think it’s important to differentiate just anyone with a blog or a website or a podcast from “the media.” Everyone has access to the internet and the ability to get their voice heard. Whether it’s sports or anything else, sure, a lot of people decide what they want to believe and then easily find something on the internet to latch on to. To the extent someone wants to blame that phenomenon for their problems, it’s not going away anytime soon.

I officially turned 21 a half-hour after the game ended, so it was a fun night/morning.
