    They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

I think it’s also, especially for us older(ish) alumni, the fact that a program with limitless potential has generally underachieved for 30 years. That may not be fair to Woodson or whoever the current coach is, but it’s just going to be a fact of life at IU. Because of the poor coaching hires and lack of success, fans understand the warning signs of failure pretty quickly and have grown weary of the excuses for it.

All true about the NET. Another thing, even if you lose, staying close against really good teams helps, especially on the road.

I think they lead the B10.

I wonder how Woodson gets away with skipping out on that show so often. It’s a pretty significant portion of his outside, marketing, and promotional duties, for which he is paid quite handsomely. It’s not like he has any other shows or really does a lot of other marketing and promotional stuff for the program.

I’m not sure if this is what you’re asking, but the cap is a dollar cap, not a percentage of revenue cap. It is projected to be $20 million first year, but will certainly go up in future years.

Short answer is yes, 10-10 would get us in consideration for a bid. Keep in mind, though, we need to find 8 more conference wins. At our current level of play, we are likely going to be favored in only 3 of our remaining games. So, somehow finding those 5 extra wins, while requiring significant improvement in our play, would certainly improve our standing and put us in consideration for a bid.

Yes, they are using Torvik’s numbers.

    Do Not Fire Mike Woodson

I’m certainly not a Woodson defender, but I find it amusing that when a player works hard we credit the player, and when a player doesn’t work hard we blame the coach.

    (2025) - SF Jaziah Harper

Maybe he wants to sign and fill up next year’s roster with 0-star recruits so he’ll look good when compared to the next coach.

To me, it just comes down to the culture the head coach has put in place, whether they’re transfers, returners, or freshman. Unfortunately, I fear that when a coaching change is made, it will have to be a big, well-known name capable of commanding the respect it’s going to take to revive this program’s now sorry reputation.

100% agree with this. Something to consider, though, is if betting lines came out on all of Indiana's remaining B1G games right now, they would only be favored in four of them. Their schedule is brutal, especially the January 11-February 14 stretch. So, they will have to very significantly improve their level of play to come anywhere near 11 B1G wins.

It’s not true. I responded a couple days ago to one of his thousands of posts that claim that and got a snarky response, and he just keeps posting it. Section 2.03 of Woodson’s contract expressly states that Woodson reports to the Director of Athletics. The contract is public information and anyone can look it up, so it seems pretty ridiculous to keep posting otherwise.

Probably some truth to your second paragraph. But to be fair, Fife didn't embrace it either (at least from what I've heard), so it was still going to be difficult to make it work.

My apologies if you have addressed this before and I missed it, but do you have any idea about some of the names on Dolson’s radar?

    And I will throw in my computer rankings, as I have done here the past few years. Just to re-introduce, these are a 50-50 split of score-based and result-based ratings. They tie pretty close to the old-version Sagarin ratings that combined predictive (score-based) and elo chess (result-based), which usually ended up being pretty close to tournament seedings. Normally, the bubble for at-large teams is around 45-50 rank. Rankings are through yesterday's games and records only include division 1 games. Indiana comes in at #63 this week. 1 Auburn 11 - 1 2 Tennessee 11 - 0 3 Florida 12 - 0 4 Duke 10 - 2 5 Alabama 10 - 2 6 Oregon 11 - 1 7 Gonzaga 9 - 3 8 Mississippi St 11 - 1 9 Houston 8 - 3 10 Pittsburgh 10 - 2 11 Iowa St 10 - 1 12 Maryland 10 - 2 13 Kansas 9 - 2 14 Marquette 11 - 2 15 Kentucky 10 - 2 16 Utah St 10 - 1 17 Michigan St 10 - 2 18 Baylor 7 - 3 19 Illinois 8 - 3 20 UCLA 10 - 2 21 Texas A&M 10 - 2 22 Memphis 9 - 3 23 Georgia 11 - 1 24 Mississippi 11 - 1 25 St John's 10 - 2
